00:00I'm here to tell you that light skin privilege exists.
00:03Unfortunately, because light skin is closer to white skin,
00:07it is viewed as more societally correct.
00:12I think light skin privilege is when lighter skin people like myself
00:16are given preferential treatment or are seen as softer or more feminine
00:21or more approachable than our darker skin peers.
00:25We're seen as less black.
00:27Light skin privilege stops to make you think,
00:29am I getting this because of a privilege that I was born with?
00:34I would say that it's extremely ignorant to believe that having lighter skin
00:39does not help you in any sort of way.
00:41It's up to the people who benefit from it to say something.
00:45I think it's all on us to identify where notions of beauty and pretty come from
00:51and to be careful about the ways in which we are assigning value based on that.
00:55And it's not okay.
00:57It's really not okay.
