00:01Liverpool booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals after beating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1
00:12draw at Anfield.
00:14It was a game of penalties. Morgan Rodgers gave Chelsea the initial lead from the penalty spot before Cody Gapko
00:21quickly equalised after Wesley Fofana handled the ball in the area.
00:27It was 1-1 on penalties, then neither side could find a winner during the second half, despite opportunities at
00:36both ends, sending the tie to a dramatic penalty shootout.
00:41Joe Gomez converted Liverpool's decisive penalty before Wesley Fofana missed for Chelsea. Not a great evening for the young Frenchman.
00:53Andoni Areola's side will now face Bournemouth in the quarterfinals as they continue their pursuit of silverware.
01:02It means that Andoni Areola will face his former club in the quarterfinal of the competition, Bournemouth having beaten Aston
01:10Villa in their last round.
01:13Here's what Andoni Areola had to say after the victory against Chelsea.
01:19Yeah, at the end, in the camp competitions, what matters is that you are in the next round and you
01:25are in the draw.
01:27And luckily for us, we finished in the right side of the penalty shootout.
01:33I think we finished please because I think the players have done a very big effort today.
01:37And at least we get the reward of being in the quarterfinals.
01:43The only team that I don't want is Bournemouth, you know, for me it's special, but they know me very
01:51well.
01:51They are playing very well lately in a good moment.
01:56And, but it is what it is, you know, we haven't been very lucky with the draws, we played Spurs,
02:01Chelsea already, now Bournemouth, that is going to be obviously special for me.
02:07But we have to end the right, you know, to be in the semifinals and I hope we can do
02:11it here at home again.
02:13I feel it, I feel it and I'm very happy to feel it because I think it's very important.
02:19We need to feel what we are feeling now, what the players are feeling, I think they are feeling the
02:25support of the ones in the stands.
02:31And I think when we are all together, we created atmospheres, even starting losing, you know, I think there was
02:39a let's go, come on, a lot of the players have given us very good help.
02:44And I think now is like the third game at home where we finish with good feelings and we have
02:51another big one on Sunday and let's try to finish this four in a row that we had at home
02:57in the best way.
