The Uttar Pradesh government’s Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana provides financial assistance of Rs 25,000 per eligible girl child in six instalments, from birth to admission to a graduation or diploma course. The scheme, implemented by the Women and Child Development Department since April 1, 2019, aims to support girls’ health and education. The instalments are Rs 5,000 at birth, Rs 2,000 after complete immunisation, Rs 3,000 each on admission to Classes 1 and 6, Rs 5,000 on admission to Class 9, and Rs 7,000 after Class 12 for admission to graduation or a diploma course. The total assistance was raised to Rs 25,000 from the financial year 2024-25. The family must reside in Uttar Pradesh, have valid residence proof and an annual income of no more than Rs 3 lakh. Benefits are limited to two girls per family, which must have no more than two children. An exception allows a third girl to qualify if twins are born during the second delivery.
