00:01Two MPs at the centre of a shared ordeal.
00:05It is frustrating and it's unfortunate that we have to speak about the incidents that we have personally experienced.
00:14Education Minister Lucy Hood and recently elected member for Elizabeth Ella Shaw targeted by the same man in separate recent
00:22stalking incidents while at work.
00:25I had advertised my location. It was a community event that I was hosting. My children were also present.
00:33My incident was a case where I was at a local community event and was followed back to my car
00:39and it was just unwanted behaviour.
00:41Police say a 44-year-old Northern Suburbs man has been cautioned over the incidents, which they say are not
00:48connected.
00:48Minister Hood says she first encountered the man three years ago and hoped it was isolated.
00:55But he resurfaced, also repeatedly messaging Miss Shaw in the lead up to the March election, culminating in the most
01:02recent approach.
01:04When it comes to an in-person thing, that's where the behaviour became completely unwanted.
01:08You can ignore a DM. When it's in person, it's a different story.
01:12On top of these incidents, SA Police say they've investigated 18 cases so far this year, including threats against MPs
01:20and harassment towards electorate office staff.
01:23In response to the attack on Helen Haynes, the acting police commissioner will tomorrow brief state MPs and update them
01:30on the latest threat assessment and steps to improve their personal safety.
01:34Despite the car attack on the Victorian MP and their own experience, neither are deterred from public appearances.
01:43I think it is a sad indictment on this country that women or politicians, Dr Helen Haynes, could be subject
01:50to such awful behaviour.
01:51So the work that people have seen in Philadelphia and come to this country and go through the
01:54session is still on the fact that the other country might have discented industries or another.
01:54From the university that is, the core of the country that certainly has been something that they have seen as
01:57a family member
01:57The community that has been a challenging practice.
