Owen Parker looks back to the games the Sabres have looked the best this season and pointed to Colten Ellis starting all those games and believes the Sabres play with more confidence when Ellis is in net compared to when Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen starts.

00:00What, if you can, what are the three best games this season that you can think of
00:03that we've talked about them looking really good?
00:06Minnesota.
00:07Yep.
00:09Florida.
00:10Mm-hmm.
00:11And yesterday.
00:12Right.
00:12And who started all three of those games?
00:15Oh.
00:16Well.
00:17Colton Ellis.
00:17He didn't start Florida, did he?
00:19Yeah.
00:19He started in Florida and got pulled.
00:21That's the game.
00:22Oh, that's the game he got pulled.
00:22I'm thinking he got pulled from Dallas.
00:24No, no.
00:24He got pulled from Florida.
00:25He got pulled from Florida.
00:26Ew.
00:27Okay.
00:28Yeah.
00:28So the three games where he started, they, uh, they've played their best three games
00:31of the year.
00:31Hmm.
00:32Okay.
00:32Now explain that.
00:34I don't, I don't need to, I don't need this to be right, but that would suggest that the
00:40team trusts him and that they can play how they want to play with him back there.
00:46And that maybe they don't entirely feel that way with the other guy that's played most of
00:50the game.
00:50So rather than interpreting it as them playing hard for him, it would be them playing hard
00:57because they can, because they believe in him.
01:00Yes.
01:00You're yes.
01:01I don't think possible opinion.
01:03I don't think that there's ever a situation where you're going to play harder for this
01:07guy.
01:08I want this guy to win bad.
01:09So I'm going to play better because I, I consciously want that.
01:13What can happen is I trust that the guy behind me is going to step, stop a puck and make
01:19a
01:19big save.
01:20And maybe I don't the other time.
01:23And maybe I'm not going to play as free or I'm not going to play with as much speed or
01:29free sort of wheeling mentality on D.
01:33Are play better and work harder synonymous in the way that you're talking about this right
01:38now?
01:38No, because I think you're going to work just as hard either way, but you might play better
01:43in front of one, because one of them instills a level of subconscious confidence in you that
01:50you're not worried about what's going to happen behind you.
01:53And when you're worried about what's going to happen behind you as a, as a defenseman
01:57or a forward, you are going to play conservative and you're going to play nervous.
02:03And when you trust who's behind you, you're not going to do that.
02:07You're going to play however you feel is appropriate.
