The National Democratic Alliance secured a 4-0 clean sweep in the Karnataka Legislative Council elections, dealing a significant political setback to the ruling Congress party in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party won three seats, while its ally Janata Dal (Secular) secured the fourth by toppling Congress candidate Puttanna in the Bengaluru Teachers seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party retained the Northeast Teachers constituency, located in Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's home turf, alongside the West Graduate and Southeast Graduate seats. Following the victory, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders criticised Congress, pointing out that the elections were conducted via ballot papers rather than electronic voting machines, blunting opposition allegations regarding voting machines. Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (Secular) termed the result a decisive mandate against the state government, while Congress representatives acknowledged the loss as an occasion to learn lessons, maintaining the outcome reflected a narrow constituency rather than a broader verdict on governance.

00:00Well, there are constant political showdown that we have witnessed in the past few weeks.
00:04The Congress are to apologize for the resigned CGI post.
00:07So they're of course quoting the recent Congress Kerala Unit Chief
00:11had to put out an apology, the kind of demand that was made.
00:14And that is what now the BGP is jumping on.
00:17So daily we have seen briefings that have come in from the Bharatiya Janata Party,
00:20top leaders, ministers, members of parliament,
00:23attacking the opposition, the Congress Party especially.
00:25And ahead of the November 1 rally, they're now saying
00:28that look, they have had to consistently put apologies, unconditional apologies,
00:31on social media for the impulsive post that they are putting up,
00:36attacking the institutions of the country, here in this case the CGI.
00:40There was a post earlier by the Congress Kerala Unit over the CGI
00:43and demanding resignation that had led to this case against them.
00:47And then an apology.
00:48So BGP is saying to Rahul Gandhi here, the leader of opposition,
00:52and the member of parliament also saying that will you also apologize?
00:56They're demanding answers from the top leadership of the Congress Party as well.
01:00Again, remember in the backdrop of what we saw in Karnataka,
01:04bringing the whole issue of elections here as well,
01:06especially in the backdrop of Karnataka MLC polls where 4-0 was NDA sweep,
01:11saying look, you can't even win on ballot papers.
01:13Let me bring in Piyush Mishra for the latest on that.
01:16Piyush, why specifically do you think this press conference by Sudhan Chitravedi
01:20and for a post on connecting Karnataka MLC elections, what is the reason here?
01:26Well, Pooja, one thing is clear that BGP will continue to attack opposition,
01:31especially Congress Party over the big defeat being faced by the Congress Party in MLC elections.
01:37Sudhan Chitravedi, BGP's national spokesperson, has done a press conference
01:41and he has mentioned about the fact that all these 28 immense elections happened on ballot paper,
01:46yet Congress won zero seats and it's a huge success for the Congress Party
01:51and instead of spreading rumors and creating unrest and anarchy,
01:56Congress Party must focus on development and agenda, should go and connect with people.
02:01These are the votes being attended by BGP as of now.
02:04Remember that it has given a huge ammunition to BGP.
02:07Why? Because in the past few days, we have seen various opposition political parties
02:11coming out and saying that there is EVM stampling which happens
02:15and many of them have also been demanding that elections should happen on ballot paper
02:20and that's why BGP is now saying that these elections, MLC elections happened on ballot paper,
02:26yet Congress won zero seats and BGP is now trying to show a mirror to the Congress Party.
02:31We have to wait and watch how the Congress is going to react on this, but there is no doubt
02:35it will be changed.
02:39Not just as a celebration for the BGP or the NDA, but that will lead them to thinking they can
02:45make further inroads
02:46into a Congress-governed state even now.
02:50Well, that's right.
02:51Kanataka is a state where we also saw a change of peace measure.
02:55And despite that, when Congress is losing peace and MLC elections in MLC elections, it is taking setback.
03:03No doubt the Congress will have to introspect what went wrong, why they lost MLC elections also.
03:09And remember that three were won by BGP, won by JDS.
03:12So it's a big victory for the NDA alliance there in the state.
03:17In the coming few years, we will also see MLC elections making plans in Kanataka.
03:22Before that, we are already seeing how there is some sort of infighting going on between the BGP carders in
03:28the state.
03:28So these election results and MLC elections just could be somewhere an encouraging factor for the party workers.
03:35BGP will certainly work on to unite the internal infighting thing and also will request all the party karagatas to
03:43come together.
03:44But yes, Prime Minister will certainly have to introspect as to why did they lose four seats back to in
03:49a crucial state like Kanataka.
03:51Piyush, stay on with me because this is clearly the focus right now when it comes to what the BGP
03:57or the NDA is now planning as the next step.
04:00They've already done the DK, it's done bro.
04:03And then they want to go ahead and target the Congress party with how they can't even win through ballot
04:08papers,
04:09which has been one of the demands of the Congress party.
04:11So let me tell you then, thank you Piyush for now, what happened in Karnataka elections.
04:15It was a 4-0 sweep for the NDA in Karnataka's Legislative Council elections,
04:19but clearly a setback or at least a wake-up call for the Congress unit in Karnataka.
04:24What happened? What was the result?
04:25The BGP won three seats, allied JDS back the fourth one,
04:29which means all four constituencies swept by the NDA.
04:32These are Northeast Teachers Constituency, West Graduate, Southeast Graduate seats as it is called.
04:38The JDS snatching the Bengaluru teacher's seat from veteran five-time MLC Puttanna.
04:43And also the seats that have been won by the BGP are particularly significant.
04:47It's been the bastion of Congress President Malik Arjun Khadge and that adds on to the reason of their celebration.
04:54The result deals a political setback to Chief Minister DK Shiv Kumar,
04:58even though they maintain that this is not about a massive mandate when it comes to Karnataka elections,
05:02this is only about a specific territory.
05:04The BGP took a dig at Chief Minister DK Shiv Kumar with that quote on your screen,
05:08an image that they had used from a previous presence in the Assembly saying,
05:13DK, it's done, bro.
05:15This, of course, remember, is turning the tables for the Congress that had been using this statement,
05:20originally said by Salman Khan, against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
05:25Now, importantly, this election were conducted using ballot papers, not electronic voting machines.
05:30So the BGP using that even as a further opportunity to target Rahul Gandhi and the Congress saying,
05:35look, you can't even win on ballot paper elections,
05:38is that I think that voters anyway are choosing the NDA and that is the bigger realisation.
05:42And the done, bro, aspect, remember, is in reference to the 2028 Assembly elections for Karnataka.
05:49Congress has accepted the setback.
05:51They are saying they'll learn the lessons, but they are also saying this is not a massive electoral mandate.
05:56Let's listen in to all the statements coming in.
06:00True, it is not as per expectation, but it's a democratic system,
06:05and if the people have chosen, so be it.
06:07There will be lessons learned and we'll be pulling up our socks.
06:10But this is not a reflection of the performance of the government,
06:15because it's a very, very closed-knit group that votes for the teachers' constituency.
06:22And generally the people who contest are either from the same background.
06:27So I don't think it's a mandate on the performance of the government,
06:31but yes, there are lessons to be learned.
06:32The election result about legislature council election,
06:43teachers' constituency and graduate constituency.
06:50In all the four legislature council elections,
06:55NDA candidates, they won in a big margin.
07:01I congratulate all the four candidates who have contested in the NDA alliance.
07:12I don't think it's a matter of all the people who have contested in the U.S.A.
07:56this is a grass victory for NDA it is a happy moment actually the Congress leaders are telling
08:11that virtually virtually virtually now there is no virtually you only recommended for ballot
08:21voting now what happened even in the ballot also the result is the same so that it is a slap
08:30on you
08:30Congress leaders whatever is given the mandate by the people of Karnataka you have to accept
08:42otherwise people of Karnataka will throw you out of Karnataka so what are the key takeaways when it
08:50comes to Karnataka MLC elections NDA sweeps all four seats which means Congress has won zero three seats
08:56by the Bhartia Janata Party ally JDS also then flipping Bengaluru here Congress drawing a blank
09:02in all four constituencies is the big key takeaway for a Congress governed state BJP has retained
09:08Northeast teachers seat and that is Kharge's home turf as the Congress president so that's again
09:13a big celebration moment the JDS is toppling Congress MLC put on now who's a five-time MLA
09:18in DKS Bengaluru bastion and that is why the reason that you see BJP celebrating and the most important
09:24one these elections were held through ballot paper not EVMs the reason Congress wanted to return to
09:30ballot paper the BJP saying but even there the people are still voting for the NDA
