00:00Estamos aquí con el receptor de los Leones del Escogido, Jason Chiavón.
00:04Jason, so far, how do you like the Dominican Republic?
00:08It's like we were saying earlier, it's so much fun.
00:11It's great competition, great guys down here,
00:14and I really couldn't have asked for much more to be thankful for it in God
00:18than to put me down here and put me on this team.
00:20What brought you to the DR to play Winter Bowl?
00:23I want to make myself better, better ball player.
00:26So I wanted to come down here and play with the best competition I could find.
00:29I mean, I see this every day, and it's unreal down here.
00:33Do you have any information about the Dominican Republic of baseball?
00:38About this Winter League?
00:40Prior to, I'd say not much info,
00:44but other than knowing that it's the best level of competition I get to,
00:48basically comparable to the MLB, and that's what attracted me the most.
00:53Did you come to the DR to work in something specific or just play ball?
00:58Just play baseball.
00:59I want to really focus on just my entire game in general
01:03and tweak a few things down here and continue to grow just all around baseball,
01:08offense, defense, I mean, everything about it.
01:10How long is your country?
01:11I'm here until December 12th.
01:14December 12th?
01:14Wow, that's almost the whole regular season.
01:20The fans, so far, how do you describe it?
01:23They're awesome.
01:24I've never been in a crowd like this before, and it's just unreal.
01:30The amount of joy and love for this sport down here, it's really breathtaking.
01:36I've heard that you have 32 homers, 30 RBIs.
01:40You're a catcher.
01:41Yep.
01:41How the hell do you do that?
01:43I don't know, man.
01:43I just swung, and if that white ball crossed the plate, like I said,
01:46I swung and God took it over from that point.
01:49Have you been a catcher all your career?
01:51Yeah, I've been a catcher since college, and then I caught a little bit in high school,
01:54but I mainly played shortstop in high school, actually.
01:57Okay, so who told you that you should be a catcher?
02:03More just myself.
02:04I loved catching from the day I started doing it in summer ball in high school and younger.
02:10And so I went to a college camp and just went there as a catcher, not as a shortstop,
02:16and that's when I kind of took over and I started catching.
02:18Is there something in the specific that you think that you should work, I mean, in your defense?
02:24Because if you're hitting 30 homers and still in 30 bases, that offensive game is there.
02:30Yeah.
02:31I think the biggest thing for me this offseason is going to be, or at least down here in the
02:35Dominican,
02:35is going to be pitch calling, getting really used to that, and getting super comfortable with that,
02:39learning all these guys, just helping me build that resume.
02:42And then really just working on continuing to work on receiving, blocking, and throwing.
02:48And I think growing that relationship and then also being down here,
02:51learning Spanish so that I can grow a relationship with a bunch of Latin guys when they come to America.
02:55It's super flow, it's super easy, and they can trust me.
02:59So that's the biggest goal for me, to come down here and just build that relationship with these guys
03:02so I can go into America and hopefully into next year
03:05and just really have a really easy, ongoing relationship with these guys.
03:09To make sure about receiving two veteran pitchers like Roderick Maslis
03:15and having a young guy, 20, 23 years old, how do you work with that?
03:21It's definitely a challenge because these guys, they've been doing this for so long now
03:25where it's like they know what they need to do, they know what they want to do to be successful.
03:29So at this point for me it's just hopping on the train and riding it, but that's really it.
03:33Have you had any chance to talk to Janier?
03:36No, not yet.
03:37Not really?
03:37No.
03:38But in the States?
03:41Janier Diaz?
03:43Not really, no, but...
03:45No chance.
03:46No.
03:47Okay, any message that you want to send to the Dominican Maze with fans?
03:51I love you guys.
03:52I mean, it's been awesome playing down here so far, and I can't wait to keep playing in front of
03:55you guys.
