Is it "one plus one is more than two" or "one plus one is two"? Discover how two powerhouse organizations are proving that collaboration is key to a stronger future!

IEEE PES and CIGRE, two of the world's leading organizations in the energy sector, are joining forces to drive innovation and knowledge sharing. IEEE PES, known for its academic and standards-based approach, and CIGRE, with its deep practical and development expertise, are a powerful complement to each other.

In these critical times of energy transition, their common goal of knowledge sharing is more vital than ever. By pooling their resources and aligning their efforts, they aim to accelerate progress without sacrificing efficiency.

This partnership is focused on breaking down silos and fostering a unified approach to energy challenges. From developing robust standards to promoting best practices, their combined strengths are set to revolutionize the industry.

Join the movement towards a more consistent, reliable, and sustainable energy future. It's time to work together, share our learnings, and build a better world, because, after all, there is no Planet B.

00:01You know, cooperation is always a positive issue because there is like a joke in mathematics.
00:15You say one and one is more than two. So this is exactly the issue that IEEE, PS,
00:24the biggest organization in the Americas and also worldwide. And SIGRE, the oldest organization
00:32with more than 25,000 members, more international, I would say, place, they are very, very complementary.
00:43IEEE is more on the maybe on the academic side, maybe on the standard side.
00:49SIGRE is more on the practical side, on the development side.
00:54And I think our common goal is knowledge sharing.
00:59And this can, again, I come to the equation, it's easier achieved if two people are sharing,
01:06two organizations, sharing the same principles, having the same goals, work together,
01:13and particularly at these times, at these critical times, at these exciting times, we live where it is absolutely necessary
01:21to achieve the energy transition without losing efficiently and doubling efforts.
01:28I think that's the big value of IEEE, PS, and SIGRE.
01:32We can align each other and share responsibilities with a joint goal.
01:38Well, thank you. I think, first of all, thank you for having PES and our PES team here.
01:44This is a wonderful event. And it is also my first time here in SIGRE, Paris.
01:49But not the last, I hope.
01:50No, I will be back for sure.
01:52You know, as you mentioned that IEEE, PS, and SIGRE work together would be fantastic in terms of knowledge sharing,
02:01in terms of sharing passions, and also promoting the energy and also to the young people coming to work for
02:09us in the energy sector.
02:11That's for sure.
02:12The other thing you did mention about, like, academia and also for SIGRE is much more on the practical side.
02:20Totally agree.
02:21And then on PES side, we are also getting into the industrial engagement with the industries as well
02:26to make sure that, hey, the standards are here, use our standard.
02:30Work together with SIGRE as well to promote more collaboration in terms of standard, work group sharing,
02:37and also lesson learned, and having industry people here to also share with people in the academia what they're looking
02:44for, right?
02:45And as you mentioned, collaborations is a great thing.
02:49Competitions, why should we compete?
02:51Collaboration is always better.
02:53The other thing you mentioned about standard, I would say that let's make sure that IEEE, PS, and SIGRE to
02:59make sure one plus one is equal to two,
03:00not three for sure, because that was not good for our power grid, that's for sure.
03:05One more thing is also, you know, a lot of people say that if you do certain things,
03:10try certain things new without a standard, it is an experiment, right?
03:14So we're both organizations to share standards, build standards together.
03:18And then with that standard, it will help to regulate and standardize the interconnections
03:23and all the implementations and also technology development.
03:27Especially in this case, we have data center situations, we have interconnectivity situations.
03:32So I think having both IEEE and SIGRE to work together to share all the knowledge and to help to
03:39deliver a good standard
03:40where everybody around the world, every sector around the world can use our standard to make things much more consistent,
03:46much more reliable, and then after that, you know, promote a better world.
03:50As you mentioned, how many worlds we have?
03:53There's only Plan A and no...
03:56Plan B, because there's no Planet B.
04:00That's right.
04:01Yeah.
04:02Well, first of all, thank you for having us in this One Grid Pavilion.
04:06It is a great event to showcase that, hey, we're all PES, SIGRE are one grid together,
04:14or so-called one family together.
04:16Collaboration is great.
04:17What we're trying to also promote is like, let's minimize the silo, right?
04:21Because I think that I understand, what I learned, that you have close to 16 work groups, like A1, B5,
04:27C4.
04:28There's all good work groups.
04:30And then we, IEEE, PES also have a lot of work groups, a lot of standards.
04:34So together, we join forces about sharing all the information together and sharing all the lessons learned together and help
04:42to promote much more consistency throughout, you know, the practicality, throughout the applications on all the standards we have.
04:49That's why, like, having this One Grid Pavilion here is fantastic.
04:53At the same time, we also want to showcase that for folks that are not aware about our collaboration, we
05:00want to show that, hey, we are here to support as well.
05:03We are here to be part of this One Grid Pavilion together, for sure.
05:08This is fantastic.
05:11I am very happy that you jumped on this train, of this One Grid train, who is moving very, very
05:17fast.
05:17And I have to say it's One Grid, it's One World, and we don't have another choice again.
05:25It's the same issue with the One Grid.
05:27I mean, and you mentioned something about minimizing the silos.
05:32I would like to add, we have to destroy the silos.
05:35That's for sure.
05:36There are no silos anymore, neither within the technology, in particular in the Grid, and neither between the organizations.
05:45Individual thinking and individual handling was yesterday.
05:50Today and in the future, we want and we have, we must work together.
05:57And one other reason is, as everybody knows, that there is no lack of capital, there is no lack of
06:07projects, there is no lack of ideas.
06:11One big thing missing is the lack of people.
06:15Yes.
06:15And I think this is, in my view, one of the main issues we have to address.
06:21We cannot afford to have two people working on the same thing because we don't cooperate with each other.
06:29That's, for me, the great value and the pillar of our cooperation, and I am very happy about it.
06:36I would like to add on top of what you say about people.
06:38Like these days, we're facing a lot of workforce challenges, correct?
06:42And I also learned that Siegret have the NGN, the next generations, and PES also have the young professionals.
06:49I think it would be great for those younger people to come together to share knowledge, to share leadership, to
06:54share vision, to spark a better idea to work together, right?
06:59So that's one thing as well.
07:01We also like to also say that, hey, let's combine it, it's better than doing it by itself, correct?
07:08Right.
07:09So totally, we would like to destroy the silo as much as we can.
07:12And there will be only one world for sure.
07:14Definitely.
07:15Yep.
07:16Very well said.
07:18I fully agree.
07:19Yep.
07:19Fully agree.
07:20That's it.
07:21One grid.
07:22One grid.
07:23Yeah.
07:23One world.
07:24One world.
