A rainbow starts with sunlight and raindrops. Light bends when it enters a drop, reflects inside, then bends again as it leaves. Different colours leave in different directions. Many drops send the right colours toward your eyes, forming the rainbow you see opposite the Sun. One drop does not paint the whole arc.
