00:24I don't know.
00:25No six and wait in here.
00:26I'll go inside and get the phone.
00:28Okay, but we'll play down here.
00:30All right.
00:46I've got car trouble.
00:47Can you do my car until we get to the end of the car?
00:49That's okay, sir.
00:50I got it, I got it.
00:51Get it.
00:57Get out of trouble, so I shouldn't be giving him a phone.
01:01I'm just not a phone.
01:07What you just witnessed was the wrong move for a bad situation,
01:11Hanley Bucks, World Jiu Jitsu Champion.
01:13When you hear the term Jiu Jitsu, you usually envision God talking into the guard,
01:17I love him through the mouth.
01:18Possibly throwing somebody through the arm bar.
01:21But in a true-to-life no-hold-barred situation,
01:24the only brand is the last place you want to be.
01:26What that last scene should look like is something like this.
01:43Hey, look, man.
01:44I'm in trouble.
01:45Look out, girl.
01:46Shoo!
01:46Shoo!
01:47Shoo!
01:48Ah!
01:50Ha-ha!
01:53Listen, man.
01:53You better watch her fall.
01:54What's going on?
01:55What's going on?
01:57What's going on here?
01:59Hey, man.
02:00You gotta be doing this.
02:01Hey, hey, hey, man.
02:03Shoo!
02:07Shoo!
02:10Shoo!
02:11Shoo!
02:14Hey, remember, in real life no-hold-barred situation,
02:17the only time you want to be here is in the movies.
02:23Hi, I'm Ernie Boggs, head coach of the United States Jiu Jitsu team
02:26and the first American World Jiu Jitsu champion.
02:28Thanks for joining me on my video series, Jiu Jitsu from the Ring to the Street.
02:32Once again, my assistants are world champions Craig Oxley and Warren Owsley.
02:37The Sport Jiu Jitsu competition is so realistic that virtually every technique that we've shared
02:41with you on this series can be modified slightly and utilized in the street.
02:46When you're in a real-life situation, survival is your primary objective and not fair play.
02:52So the illegal target areas in Sport Jiu Jitsu are now your primary targets.
02:57So to begin, we're going to start with some basic locks.
03:00I'm going to bring Mr. Oxley out.
03:04We're going to start with some of the simplest locks and work our way on up to the more difficult.
03:09The first one is the wrist flex.
03:12Some people call it teinagi, hand throw.
03:14Some people call it just the wrist flex.
03:18For learning purposes, learn proper mechanics, we're going to have your partner to hold your hand up just like this.
03:24Of course, no one's going to attack you like that.
03:27Again, this is just to learn proper mechanics.
03:30You're going to grab the hand as if you're grabbing a sandwich.
03:32The two knuckles, the two thumbs are going to be at his index finger and middle finger knuckles.
03:38So we're going to direct his fingers towards the bicep and step away.
03:43The same leg that he has for, the same arm you're attacking, the same side.
03:47We're stepping back and directing the palm towards the mat.
03:52Keeping the wrist flexed.
03:59The wrist flex.
04:02Pushing in and turning.
04:04This is a two-way action.
04:05In and over.
04:07Remember to keep your elbows in tight.
04:10Your arm's not out here because he can just easily jerk away from here.
04:13Or counter with a kick.
04:15Again, see how weak.
04:17Pull away.
04:19Now, if you've ever seen a young baby that wants something, a toy or a piece of candy and you
04:25want that back,
04:25the baby doesn't hold it like this.
04:27It brings it into its body.
04:29It's a natural movement.
04:30And if I was going to lift him, there's no way I can lift him like this.
04:33But if I'm closer, I can use my body to help lift.
04:38So it's important to keep the elbows in for strength.
04:42Toward the bicep.
04:43And turn.
04:45Wherever we direct the palm is where his back is going to land.
04:48Palm press.
04:49If I want him in front of me.
04:50Say I've got my back against the wall.
04:51I want him in front.
04:52I'm going to press the palm straight down.
04:55If I want him to the side, he's going to the side.
05:00If there's multiples, I'll have someone behind me.
05:04He's going there.
05:06So again, wherever we direct the palm is where he's going to land.
05:11We're going to go back over these.
05:14But for now, I'm going to move on to the next wrist flex.
05:17This is a reverse wrist flex.
05:19Hand is up.
05:20We're just going to turn it to the palms facing.
05:22Instead of palm facing him, his palm is facing me.
05:24Now I'm going to reach around and grab with the pinky finger.
05:28Turning the wrist up.
05:30The wrist up.
05:31And the elbow bent.
05:33We're going to direct the energy towards the center line.
05:35Because if I direct the energy up his arm.
05:37If his arm is locked.
05:38And I'm just trying to twist his wrist.
05:40It's very easy to resist that.
05:42He feels no pain.
05:43Once I bend the elbow and direct the energy to the center line.
05:46It takes very little pressure to get a reaction.
05:50So the motion is this.
05:53From natural wrist flex.
05:56We're just going to bring the inside hand.
05:58Turn it up.
06:00Then over.
06:01Not this.
06:03It's sticking to the hand.
06:05Turning over.
06:07And turning the wrist up.
06:08This hand comes in.
06:09Grabs thumb to thumb.
06:12And this hand pivots.
06:14Now our fingers are up.
06:16His fingers are facing my chest.
06:18Hold that there.
06:19And we'll do a small circle action towards the chest.
06:24Remember keeping the elbows back to the body.
06:28Okay.
06:29From there.
06:30On this side.
06:33One more time.
06:34Twist.
06:35Up.
06:36And down.
06:37From there we're going to go to what we call a gooseneck.
06:40His thumb is here.
06:41You're going to grab thumb up.
06:44Thumb to thumb.
06:46Pushing his fingers in.
06:47His fingers are going to be on your wrist.
06:49And I'm going to step to him.
06:52Helping bend the elbow.
06:55Now notice his fingers are in here.
06:57And not here.
06:59In the police academy years ago they taught this.
07:01But there's a very simple release.
07:03Easy to release.
07:04Even if I have him in pain here.
07:08Release.
07:09Here I'm locking the thumb.
07:10And not only am I directing the energy towards my body.
07:14I'm directing it to the outside.
07:16So it's two way action.
07:17If I let him stay flat footed.
07:19He can counter me.
07:21So my objective is to bring him to the balls of his feet.
07:23Can you counter me?
07:24Yes sir.
07:24No.
07:25Can't counter it that way.
07:27Back out.
07:28From a natural.
07:30Here.
07:31With the wrist flex.
07:32Turn.
07:35Wrist flex.
07:36This hand grabs the thumb.
07:38This hand grabs the elbow.
07:40Pushing.
07:41Pulling the elbow to you.
07:42Pushing his hand to his body.
07:46Goose neck.
07:47Next one is a C clamp arm bar.
07:50Free hand.
07:51From the C.
07:52Grabbing the wrist.
07:54Keeping his elbow tight to your body.
07:56If I create distance he's going to escape.
07:59So he needs to be in pain all the time.
08:03Like Professor Jay says.
08:04Seeing is not believing.
08:06Feeling is believing.
08:07So we need to keep him in pain.
08:09Grab the C clamp.
08:11Bringing the arm down.
08:12He's still barred.
08:13I could even bar him with the body.
08:14But that's not tactically or strategically sound.
08:18So what we're going to do is bring the hand up and fish through.
08:22Bone edge.
08:23Can you pull this up?
08:24Yes sir.
08:24Bone edge of your hand.
08:26And his Golgi tendon.
08:28Now it's important to break his vertical plane.
08:30His head has to be lower than your waist.
08:32If his head is above your waist.
08:33It's easy for him to counter.
08:35So we break the vertical plane.
08:36Head down.
08:37Base out.
08:39Base out.
08:40To the standing arm bar.
08:41One version of the standing arm bar.
08:44Wrist flex.
08:48Reverse wrist flex.
08:52Goose neck or chicken wing.
08:55C clamp.
08:56Standing arm bar.
08:58Now his natural reaction from here is to raise up.
09:01So from here we're going to another lock.
09:02This is called a figure four.
09:04This hand comes through.
09:06And grabs your own wrist here.
09:08We're going to bring his hand towards his head.
09:11And back.
09:12It's actually a shoulder lock as well.
09:16Okay.
09:16Again.
09:17We can come into this this way as well.
09:19Grab the wrist here.
09:21Just to get proper mechanics.
09:23Figure four.
09:26Again.
09:27Reach out.
09:32Figure four.
09:37Figure four.
09:39Okay.
09:40From the beginning again.
09:42Wrist flex.
09:45Reverse wrist flex.
09:47Grabbing the thumb.
09:50Chicken wing or gooseneck.
09:52C clamp standing arm bar.
09:56V lock.
09:58V lock.
10:01Okay.
10:01A way to practice those is a very good drill called lock flow.
10:04That also comes from Professor J.
10:05In order to be able to flow you have to be.
10:09You have to be familiar with the body's patterns of resistance.
10:11What I mean by that is.
10:13When I'm twisting this way.
10:15I know his means of resistance is in that direction.
10:19And again in Jiu Jitsu when you're pushed you pull.
10:21And when you pull you push.
10:23So if he's twisting in this direction.
10:25I'm going to come into this hold.
10:28He pulls the hand away.
10:30I'm moving into this.
10:32When he's fighting this I'm going to bring him forward.
10:34Now he raises up.
10:36And I bring him into the figure four.
10:40Okay.
10:41Again.
10:42Break the balance.
10:44Turn.
10:45Break the balance.
10:47Grab.
10:48Chicken wing.
10:52Okay.
10:53Now we're going to work it onto the ground.
10:56Come here.
10:58Here.
11:01Here.
11:02Here.
11:03Here.
11:04And from here we're taking him to the ground.
11:06Stepping back.
11:07He's on the ground.
11:09Now.
11:10We want our sailor on his stomach.
11:12Because he can still counter from here.
11:14He can punch.
11:14He can roll to him.
11:15He can kick.
11:16So the safest way.
11:17The safest position is to have him on his stomach.
11:19So from here we're going to pull his arm up.
11:21Barring his elbow against your knee.
11:24And lifting him over.
11:26This way.
11:28Okay.
11:28Back on your back again.
11:29Sir.
11:32Come from figure four.
11:33Stepping back.
11:35Keeping your knee tight to his.
11:37Golgi tendon.
11:38Pulling the arm out.
11:39Turning his foot.
11:40Towards his body.
11:42And if he's drunk or deranged he's not going to know what you want.
11:45He's going to resist and you're going to injure him.
11:46So you always give him verbal commands.
11:49Put your hand on his head and tell him over.
11:51Over.
11:51Over.
11:51Over.
11:52We'll put him over.
11:53From here.
11:54Step across the head.
11:56We'll rest our shin on his neck.
11:59Pulling up here we have a shoulder lock.
12:02Now from here.
12:03I can pat him down.
12:08Instead of him stealing my money.
12:09I can go through his pockets and steal his.
12:11Just kidding.
12:13Okay.
12:14We step away.
12:15From there.
12:16The thumb is exposed.
12:18We're going to grab the thumb.
12:20Squat.
12:21Grab the elbow.
12:22And bring up, up, up.
12:24Bringing back up into the chicken wing.
12:27Okay.
12:28We'll put the flow together.
12:30He reaches.
12:32One.
12:33Two.
12:35Three.
12:37Four.
12:39Five.
12:40Six.
12:43Seven.
12:45Five.
12:48And eight.
12:49And that's the flow.
12:51Okay.
12:52I'm going to teach you two more locks before we go back to the flow.
12:54The next one is the hammer lock.
12:57What we're going to do is we're going to, he's got his right hand out.
13:01You're going to take your left hand.
13:03Bone edge.
13:04Put the flat of your wrist.
13:06Down.
13:06Palm up.
13:08And we're attacking right at his elbow.
13:10We're snaking under.
13:13And going to the small joint here.
13:16And once again, back in years ago in the police academy, they would teach you to attack
13:21the shoulder and the arm.
13:23But resist me?
13:23Sure.
13:25I can't get that.
13:26Because I'm attacking one of the largest joints in the arm, in the body.
13:30If he reaches for me and I attack that, it's very easy to resist.
13:36So, we're going to use like a small circle method and we're attacking a smaller joint.
13:40If he resists here, he's successful.
13:42But if I attack the small joint, it's very easy to get that lock.
13:47Now, instead of lifting up on the shoulder by the elbow, I'm taking this hand and I'm
13:53moving it this way, just that way there.
13:56And we're causing the pain in the front of the shoulder.
13:58Now, he's naturally going to bend over.
14:00That's going to relieve the pain in the shoulder.
14:02He can escape here.
14:03So, we need him vertical on this lock.
14:06We need his body vertical.
14:07So, we're going to take our fingers and we're going to attack this cluster of nerves right
14:11here.
14:12Brachial plexus tie-in.
14:16Doesn't take much pressure, just a little squeeze.
14:19Got to raise him straight up.
14:21And we're going to lock the grab.
14:22If he has a shirt, we're going to grab the shirt.
14:24If not, we can grab behind her head and we also have a choke here.
14:31Let's go slow.
14:32As the hand's coming out, we intercept with this one.
14:36Rolling under.
14:39And enter that way.
14:41Pump, let's go turn one around.
14:42Now, this hand is going to do this.
14:45That causes the pain.
14:47Here's another enter.
14:49Intercept.
14:51And enter.
14:55That's the hammer lock.
14:56Next is the V-lock.
14:58This one, this hand, instead of coming on top, it's coming underneath.
15:03This one's coming underneath at the Golgi tendon or tricep tendon.
15:06And we want to turn the arm that way.
15:10Grab here.
15:12And instead of pulling down on the arm, because I'm not pulling at all.
15:15When I start pulling this way, I'm using muscle.
15:17All I'm doing is lifting my elbow up.
15:20This is the takedown.
15:23Very simple.
15:24When you do it right, it's so effortless.
15:27Stop it here.
15:28This one comes under.
15:29Again, this is the V-lock.
15:33It's its name because we're forming the letter V.
15:37Very similar to the hammer lock, or to the figure four, with the opposite arm is coming in, making the
15:44figure four.
15:45Here we have no figure four, but we have the letter V.
15:50His right arm, my left arm stops.
15:53My right arm comes under.
15:56Again, with the ridge hand, we're attacking that nerve, bending it.
15:59If I just reach over here, he's going to be able to resist.
16:02So, using a Timiwazor, striking vital area, we're attacking those nerves.
16:08Lift the elbow, and he's down.
16:14Okay, hammer lock again.
16:17Down, under, V-lock.
16:22Up, under.
16:25Okay, now we can go back to the lock flow, and add that to the lock flow.
16:30Reaches, one, two, three.
16:36You notice he's tapping.
16:38Remember the concept of tapping.
16:39When you feel pain, tap.
16:41Even in competition.
16:42A lot of people say, well, I'm a warrior.
16:44I'm not tapping out.
16:45When that happens, next time you're in a conversation with someone about fighting, you'll be saying, I used to be
16:51a warrior.
16:52There's a fine line between being brave and stupid.
16:57If it's a sport, trust me, my friends, tap out.
17:00If it's on the street, that's a different story.
17:02Again, we cause pain.
17:04We want him to tap.
17:05We want to know.
17:05If we're not going to just do it here, and if he's not tapping, then we're not doing something right.
17:09Tapping.
17:10C-lock.
17:13To the ground.
17:14He's still in pain from the wrist.
17:16Right, sir?
17:16Sir.
17:17Keeping the tricep tendon against your knee.
17:20Turning your foot.
17:23Barring him to his stomach.
17:24Stepping over.
17:25Resting your shin.
17:27On the side of his neck.
17:28Pulling the arm up.
17:30In this case, he's going to tap at his foot.
17:32Grab the fingers.
17:34Thumb is exposed, so we're going to attack that thumb this way.
17:38Grabbing the elbow.
17:39Remember verbal commands.
17:40Up, up, up, up.
17:42Back into the wrist lock.
17:44We're out.
17:46And from here, I can snake.
17:51Hammer lock.
17:52Slides out.
17:54Grab the thumb.
17:55Snake.
17:56Push up.
17:57Push up.
17:59Push up.
17:59Push up.
18:00Push up.
18:01Push up.
18:02Now, in the flow, he's dictating my next move.
18:07I'm not forcing the moves on him.
18:09Wherever I feel his energy, that's the direction I'm going to go.
18:16That's it.
18:18Next lock.
18:19Finger lock.
18:21Finger lock.
18:22Finger lock.
18:23I'm not just grabbing the fingers and bending them back to the arm.
18:26Back to the body.
18:27Then pull that away.
18:29Easy to resist.
18:31If I bend the fingers back, it doesn't work.
18:34Even if he has his hands around my waist, I'm just bending the finger back.
18:38I can resist.
18:40What I'm doing is two-way action again.
18:42I'm pushing into the knuckle and putting this knuckle on the back of his hand.
18:47Not necessarily thinking about putting the pinky back here, but putting the pinky on the back of his hand.
18:52We're going to bring him straight down.
18:54If I want to turn him out, he'll turn out.
18:57Down.
18:58Down.
18:59And up.
19:01Very little pressure.
19:05Okay.
19:06He's reaching.
19:07Open-handed.
19:10Finger lock.
19:12Pivot.
19:14Finger lock.
19:16Now come under.
19:17That's part of the flow.
19:22Back to the wrist.
19:25Okay.
19:25Again.
19:27Set.
19:28Finger lock.
19:29Now, when we're doing a finger lock, remember this is a transitional move.
19:33You're not going to hold anybody here very long.
19:35He feels the pain, but after maybe one second, you've got just a split second to move to the next
19:42move.
19:43He's going to be able to resist and pull away.
19:46So if you're applying the finger lock, you want to bring him straight to the ground.
19:51Straight to the ground.
19:58From there, I can bring him up, up, up, up, up, up.
20:05If you've ever had the pleasure of watching Wally Jay, he can do this with just one finger.
20:09A lot of people claim that they can do this, but there's only one man in the world that can
20:13do this, and that's Professor Wally Jay.
20:15But we don't need that to be successful in the street.
20:19There's the lever.
20:21We just grasp on.
20:24Okay.
20:24Now you've got a basic idea of the locks that we'll be using on the street defense.
20:28Now we're going to go back and go over some of the parries and a variation of different blocks that
20:33we'll be using on the street.
20:35Remember the parry.
20:36He's reaching.
20:37He's parrying.
20:41Now we're going to add aggressive defense on the strikes we're going to be using.
20:45Instead of the fist, we'll think more of palm heel.
20:50If you hit the guy with the fist, a lot of times you're going to get the knuckles in your
20:53hand, a lot of blood.
20:55It hurts.
20:55If Mike Tyson can break his hand on someone's head, so can you.
20:59So we're going to use palm heel strikes.
21:03A lot of people like to teach it this way.
21:04I like to teach them with the fingers open this way.
21:07So when I retract, we get some flesh into the fingernails too.
21:12This is important for various reasons.
21:16Especially for women who are attacked and raped.
21:19If you're injured really bad, you're in the hospital, even dead.
21:22Now we have some evidence.
21:23We have some DNA in the fingernails.
21:26So the palm heel strike is going to come up and back.
21:28And when you retract it, fingers coming back.
21:31Coming back.
21:33Palm heel.
21:34Elbow strike.
21:36Elbow strike.
21:37Hand is relaxed on the elbow strike.
21:43Overhand elbow.
21:46Underneath.
21:47Inside.
21:49Palm heel.
21:51Now we're going to combine the parry to an elbow strike.
21:57This is what we call hand destruction or aggressive defense.
22:00We're not going to think about directing his hand into the elbow.
22:03We're just going to think about putting your palm on your elbow like that.
22:08So we'll parry a couple of shots.
22:10I should slow down a little bit.
22:14Then we'll bring the hand into the elbow.
22:21And even that, striking that lightly, it's very uncomfortable to him.
22:25Sir.
22:27Okay.
22:28Now, parry again.
22:31One, two, three, destruct.
22:35One, two, three, four, destruct.
22:39One, two, three, destruct.
22:42Okay.
22:44Now, parry the first hand.
22:46Second hand.
22:48We're parrying.
22:49This is in the Filipino arts.
22:51This is called gunting.
22:52But I combine it with the Japanese arts.
22:54And this is iponzuki.
22:56One knuckle.
22:57One knuckle.
22:58We're attacking this nerve in here.
23:00Meridian.
23:01As we parry, we're striking at the same time.
23:06Other hand.
23:07Striking at the same time.
23:11Boom.
23:12Boom.
23:14And if we open our hands, we're directing.
23:16We can bend the arm.
23:19Bend the arm.
23:22The hand.
23:24Just with the fingers.
23:27Now, if I want to add the destruction, we add the knuckle.
23:29Just that light tap.
23:30He felt that.
23:32Boom.
23:33Okay.
23:33Back to the hand destruction.
23:35One, two, gunting.
23:37One.
23:38Two.
23:39Hand destruction.
23:40One.
23:40Two.
23:41One.
23:42Two.
23:44Now, we're going to come off with two punches.
23:47Parry.
23:49Parry.
23:50Parry.
23:50Gunting.
23:51Okay.
23:53Parry.
23:54Gunting.
23:55Parry.
23:56Gunting.
23:57Okay.
23:58On this side.
24:00Parry.
24:02Gunting.
24:03Okay.
24:04Now, the next one is elbow strike.
24:05Not just to the hand, but we're going to the body.
24:08We parry the first one.
24:11Right here.
24:11We're going to parry to the outside.
24:13Elbow strike.
24:15To the inside of the bicep.
24:18Parry.
24:19Gunting.
24:20Catch.
24:20Elbow.
24:21We're going to add the gunting to this one.
24:23Parry.
24:24Gunting.
24:25One.
24:26Stop.
24:28Elbow.
24:28So, it's one.
24:30Two.
24:32One.
24:33Two.
24:34Quicker.
24:35One.
24:35Two.
24:36One.
24:37Two.
24:38One.
24:38Slow down.
24:40Gunting.
24:41Catch.
24:42Elbow.
24:44All right.
24:44This side.
24:46Now, we're going to add the hammerlock.
24:50Gunting.
24:51Trap.
24:52Elbow.
24:53Hand comes over.
24:55We're going to do the hammerlock.
24:58If he bends over, we straighten him up by attacking this nerve.
25:01Hand follows the contour of the neck.
25:04This hand is going to go behind your own neck.
25:06From here, you're just going to take a deep breath.
25:09And we call it a choke.
25:13In this angle.
25:15Gunting.
25:16Block.
25:16Elbow.
25:20Hammerlock.
25:21Follow the contour of the neck.
25:23Bring this hand behind your own neck.
25:25Keep your face down.
25:28So you're protecting your eyes.
25:29So you can reach over and poke your eyes here.
25:32So your head is down.
25:34And your eyes are protected by his shoulder.
25:38This hand comes behind your neck.
25:41And breathe.
25:43We're not squeezing at all.
25:44We're just breathing.
25:45Expanding the chest.
25:47One more time.
25:48Gunting.
25:49Catch.
25:50Elbow.
25:51Hammerlock.
25:54Choke.
25:56Okay.
25:56Now we're going to go to some variations of the reverse wrist lock.
26:03Let's say from a cross body.
26:05Cross body wrist grab.
26:07His right hand against my right hand.
26:10Now.
26:11If his hand is open.
26:13And I try to keep it open.
26:14Close your hand.
26:15It's very difficult.
26:16He can make a fist easy.
26:18But if his hand is closed.
26:21And I hold it closed.
26:22And I hold it closed.
26:22Open it.
26:23Very easy to hold closed.
26:25Just like an alligator's mouth.
26:26It's very powerful.
26:28Closing.
26:29But one rubber band can keep it from opening.
26:31So the principle is to trap the fingers here.
26:34So he can't release.
26:36Then we roll the hand over.
26:39Notice his elbow is going to be in a natural bend.
26:42For the wrist flex.
26:45Roll the hand over.
26:47And a simple way of doing this is taking the index finger.
26:51And directing it.
26:52Actually trying to touch his solar plexus.
26:54Or the center line.
26:55I'm going to bring him down forward.
26:59Trap.
27:00And roll.
27:02If you bend your knees.
27:04You're losing.
27:05You're losing the pressure here.
27:08See the bad wrist.
27:09Trap.
27:11Touch.
27:13Other side.
27:15Trap.
27:16Roll.
27:17And touch.
27:19Okay.
27:21This side.
27:21I'm going to use one more.
27:22Also there's another technique called a waterfall.
27:25The hand comes over.
27:26And just comes down.
27:28I'm releasing because this will actually break the wrist.
27:31So I'm releasing here so he can release.
27:34The actual application is to bring the hand over.
27:37Just like a waterfall is crashing down.
27:40And we're going to snap the wrist.
27:42Boom.
27:44Slowly.
27:45I can feel the pressure.
27:47Okay.
27:48From the wrist lock to follow up.
27:49He grabs.
27:51Now it depends on the severity of the attack.
27:56And where we go from here.
27:57From here I can come back to the wrist flex.
28:03And again we want him over.
28:05To the stomach.
28:14Wrist flex.
28:18Tenagi or hand throw.
28:20Lift the hand.
28:24Back to the very first one we were learning.
28:28Okay.
28:29Up.
28:31Again.
28:32He grabs.
28:33Break the balance.
28:35Tenagi.
28:37Roll them over.
28:46Remember.
28:46All this is not necessary.
28:48If we want to escape.
28:49We can simply release and disengage.
28:55Boom.
28:56Boom.
28:58Boom.
28:59Boom.
28:59Boom.
29:00Boom.
29:00Boom.
29:00Also we can bring him back up the chicken wing.
29:05Okay.
29:05This time I'd like to bring you in a little larger ookie.
29:08To show that the size is not that important.
29:12It's an old saying.
29:12It's not the size of the dog and the fight.
29:14The size of the fight and the dog.
29:16And again there's another one that I like to use.
29:18If size meant everything.
29:19Cows without running rabbits.
29:21So this time I'd like to bring in a friend of mine.
29:23Adam Casillas.
29:25Alright.
29:27Let's write.
29:27Let's write.
29:28Same principle.
29:29As you can see there's quite a bit of size difference here.
29:34Now if his arm is locked.
29:36He feels no pressure.
29:38So what I'm doing is I push the palm towards the center line.
29:41And down he goes.
29:43Now.
29:44I don't want to get in a wrestling match with this big bear.
29:47So what I'll do from here.
29:48I'll step back and I'll utilize our front kick that we learned in the first video.
29:51Front kick.
29:52Round kick.
29:55Or just disengage.
29:58So against him I'm going to break the balance.
30:01And if he doesn't go all the way down.
30:03Come back up a little bit.
30:04If he comes in there.
30:05We're opening up that groin.
30:07Bam.
30:07Front kick.
30:09Front kick.
30:11Reach across this way.
30:13Same thing.
30:15Down.
30:16Front kick.
30:20I'm just trying to give you some various options you know to use.
30:23Instead of coming into total grappling.
30:26Now we're here.
30:26Back to what I did to Mr. Oxley.
30:30Wrists.
30:30I had the option to go to arm bar.
30:33Strike.
30:35Stomp.
30:36Or turn and run.
30:38So once he's there.
30:41The options are unlimited.
30:42And it's totally up to you.
30:44Okay.
30:45This wrist grab is.
30:46This wrist release is principle based.
30:48And the principle is to get this up.
30:51And doing this.
30:52Because he may grab my shirt here.
30:54It's the same technique.
30:57He may grab my shirt here.
30:59The same technique.
31:02He may grab the same side.
31:04Instead of cross body.
31:06It's the same technique.
31:08Over and over.
31:14The follow up is up to you.
31:16Okay.
31:17The next technique is called the bicep takedown.
31:19What we're doing is we're not defending the attack.
31:21Once again we're attacking the attack.
31:24And we're not defending the technique.
31:27We're defending the angle.
31:28So it could be a straight punch.
31:30We could be grabbing for my hair.
31:31It could be a double hand grab.
31:34Anything that this weapon is coming at this angle.
31:36We can defend with this technique.
31:39First thing we're going to do is apply our parry.
31:41Slowly.
31:43And answer with the palm here.
31:44We're attacking the infraorbital nerve.
31:46Follow up the radial nerve.
31:48And brachial plexus.
31:50Tie in.
31:52Again we can bar.
31:53We can strike.
31:54We can roll him to his stomach.
31:58After he's down there.
31:59The options are up to you.
32:01Okay.
32:03Now.
32:05Remember it's important to attack that nerve.
32:07His arms are very big and he's very strong.
32:09If I'm just trying to muscle him.
32:11There's just no way I can get that arm bent.
32:14Same strength.
32:15But if I use the strike and attack the nerve.
32:17Boom.
32:18We're bringing him right down.
32:19Okay.
32:20He reaches.
32:22Infraorbital nerve.
32:23Strike.
32:23Softening.
32:24No way I'm going to try to tackle a bear without softening it.
32:26Boom.
32:27Down.
32:28Over.
32:29Option.
32:29Again.
32:30Or unlimited.
32:31Striking.
32:32Stepping all over.
32:34Or running.
32:40Infraorbital.
32:41Coming back.
32:43If I just turn here I'm off balance.
32:45Now he.
32:45If you resist in this.
32:46This fashion here.
32:47He's going to be able to take me down.
32:48So I need to step back for leverage.
32:53Strike.
32:54Lock.
32:56But.
32:58My advice to use.
32:59If you're.
32:59Lucky enough to get a man this size down.
33:01Is to run.
33:04Okay.
33:04One more time.
33:07This is simultaneously.
33:08I'm not.
33:09Blocking.
33:10Then striking.
33:11As I'm.
33:12By block.
33:13As I'm striking.
33:14That hands coming back.
33:15And we're going to deal with the other hand.
33:16Again.
33:16So.
33:17Same time.
33:22Lock.
33:24Lock.
33:25Arm bar.
33:29Figure four.
33:32Or I could.
33:33Punch.
33:35Stomp.
33:35Spit on him.
33:36Whatever I want to do.
33:39One time from this side.
33:42Last time.
33:43Reaches.
33:43One.
33:45Two.
33:47Three.
33:48And now it's up to you.
33:53Static.
33:55One.
33:56Two.
33:57Three.
34:00And grab my hair.
34:01Fluid.
34:07And grab my hair.
34:08And dynamic.
34:09Yeah.
34:11Help.
34:15That's the bicep takedown.
34:17Okay.
34:18One very important point.
34:19To remember is that.
34:21When defending yourself on the street.
34:23There's civil.
34:23And legal ramifications.
34:25There could be consequences.
34:27In what you do to your.
34:28Attacker.
34:30For example.
34:30If it's.
34:31Cousin Joe.
34:33At the family picnic.
34:34Grabbing your wrist.
34:35Of course.
34:36You're not going to.
34:37Break it down.
34:37And take his eyeball out.
34:39So.
34:41Or.
34:41If you're in a dark alley.
34:43And we don't know who this guy is.
34:44It's a different story.
34:46Then.
34:47So.
34:48We're going to go.
34:49With.
34:49What we call.
34:51Escalation of force.
34:52If he grabs my wrist.
34:54I'm breaking down.
34:54Now.
34:55If he throws that hand.
34:56A straight punch.
34:57It's a different story.
34:58Now.
34:58I can escalate.
35:02The next one.
35:03We're going to work on.
35:03Is this a straight choke.
35:05This is a street choke.
35:06Anybody has any grappling.
35:08Experience.
35:09They're not going to choke you this way.
35:10But this is a very.
35:12Common on the street.
35:14My back may be against a wall.
35:15A tree.
35:16Or whatever.
35:17Or another person.
35:18You just never know.
35:20From here.
35:20I'm going to.
35:21Put the three fingers together this way.
35:23And we're attacking the larynx.
35:25With a jugular notch.
35:26Which is here.
35:27We're not just pushing in.
35:28We're pushing in and down.
35:32And if you don't hear it.
35:33Then you've done it wrong.
35:35You've done the technique wrong.
35:37Okay.
35:37You felt that?
35:38Yes sir.
35:39The hand.
35:40Boom.
35:41Now I'm not reaching for the hand.
35:43I'm placing the hand right at his wrist.
35:44Because when I do this.
35:46His hand's going to come right into this position.
35:50One.
35:51And.
35:52Tenage.
35:54Down.
35:56Hold me a little tighter Adam.
36:00Forget the famous Elvis Presley move.
36:03This doesn't work in the street.
36:05Trust me.
36:07I tried that right after watching Blue Hawaii.
36:09It never works.
36:11Okay.
36:12Again.
36:12Fingers.
36:14Larynx.
36:15Turn.
36:16Takedown.
36:21Okay.
36:22Lock again.
36:24We'll go to the other side.
36:26Tacking jugular notch.
36:29Teinagi.
36:31Release.
36:32And run.
36:36Choke.
36:38One.
36:41Two.
36:43Or I can hold.
36:44And counter.
36:46Again.
36:46The options.
36:47Are unlimited.
36:49This side.
36:53Ideally you want to counter.
36:55Again.
36:55Attacking is attacked.
36:57Before the hands are locked on you.
36:59Because nobody just stands there and chokes you like this.
37:01Once he gets his hands on me.
37:02He's going to take me to the ground.
37:03Or he's going to drive me to the wall.
37:05So I don't have the time to open the book and go to technique number 232.
37:10If your techniques don't come naturally.
37:13They're not spontaneous.
37:14Then they won't work.
37:17One.
37:18I intercept.
37:19Two.
37:21Down.
37:23Strike.
37:23This head is turned.
37:24I'm going to attack the ear.
37:27This head.
37:28If he's looking towards me.
37:29I'm going to attack the infralopital nerve.
37:31Or the eyes.
37:37One.
37:37One.
37:39Two.
37:42Unlimited options.
37:45And that's the defense against straight choke.
37:47Okay.
37:48Now we're going to be using cruiserweight world champion Warren Owsley.
37:51I was talking earlier about how your techniques have to become natural to you.
37:56Just like that.
37:57I tossed that to him.
37:59He didn't say, oh, do I roll?
38:01Do I catch it?
38:01Do I block it?
38:02Do I jump out of the way?
38:03What do I do?
38:04That's a natural reaction to catch it.
38:06If your techniques don't come to you like that on the street, they won't work.
38:10Forget about it.
38:11They're not going to work.
38:12And the only way to get them to come that way is repetition.
38:16Repetition.
38:17When you come to your door in your house, you don't stop and think, oh, I'm going to open
38:21the door with my right hand.
38:22No, I think I'll open it with my left.
38:24It's a natural movement.
38:25If there's two doors and one is locked, you don't immediately jump back and say, oh my
38:30God, I'm locked in the house.
38:31How do I do?
38:32First, you try the other door.
38:34In other words, there's always another option.
38:38So, the next option to a straight choke, from here, he's got the choke.
38:43We're going to rest your wrist, your hand on his wrist here.
38:48We're stepping back.
38:50You're going to turn around and throw a baseball.
38:53Now, you wouldn't turn back with this foot and turn that way, obviously.
38:57So, you're going to take the right foot back and throw with the left hand.
39:02So, we're trapping here.
39:04Stepping back.
39:06Throwing.
39:07Elbow strike.
39:10Another side.
39:13In this instance, we're going to trap with the left hand.
39:15Step back with the left foot.
39:17Throwing.
39:18Elbow strike.
39:20Maintaining this grip.
39:21If I want to go to an arm bar, I can.
39:26On the street, I don't recommend grappling.
39:28I don't recommend going to the ground at all if you don't have to.
39:32One.
39:33Two.
39:35Elbow.
39:35Still maintaining that grip.
39:37Going back to the side kick we learned earlier.
39:39We're not going to the ribs or to the body like we were doing in competition.
39:43We're going directly against that knee joint.
39:46And escaping.
39:52One.
39:53Two.
39:56Now, to utilize economy of motion.
39:59So, I'm grabbing this wrist and this one's coming over.
40:02Fingers are open.
40:03So, if we're lucky, we're going to scratch them eyes.
40:06I don't mean to poke them.
40:07Just scratch them.
40:09As you're coming across.
40:12One.
40:13Two.
40:14And we escape.
40:20One.
40:22Two.
40:23And we escape.
40:23Another side.
40:29One.
40:30Two.
40:31Three.
40:32One.
40:32I forgot that elbow, didn't I?
40:34One.
40:35Two.
40:36I forgot that elbow, didn't I?
40:38One.
40:38There's another option.
40:39Elbow.
40:39Straight to the infral orbital nerve.
40:41If his head is turned, we're going to the tempo.
40:43Boom.
40:46One.
40:47Two.
40:47Three.
40:49One more time the other side.
40:56And slow.
41:04That's another option to the straight choke.
41:08Okay.
41:09One more option for the straight, street choke.
41:13Here we're going to grab the wrist, bending your knees, using the inverted punch, downward
41:19onto the groin.
41:20Now we're coming back up.
41:22This arm's coming over and under this arm.
41:25And from here we're using a palm heel strike to the chin.
41:29The side.
41:33And your knees.
41:34Strike.
41:36The side comes under and over.
41:39Chin.
41:49One.
41:50Two.
41:51Once we've struck the chin, we have several options.
41:55I can follow through with the choke.
42:09I can hammer lock.
42:17Hammer lock.
42:20I have to utilize my flow a little bit there.
42:23To the stomach.
42:28That's the first one.
42:30Goin strike.
42:32Under.
42:34Chin.
42:39Goin strike.
42:40Under and over.
42:41Chin.
42:45Remember the three ways of practicing.
42:47Static.
42:53Fluid.
42:57And dynamic.
43:02That's another option for the street choke.
43:06Okay.
43:07Another type of street choke.
43:08Instead of the arms extended, he's closer to your body.
43:12It's very hard to carry that hand.
43:15Once again, it's impossible to use the office freshly move.
43:18So from here, we're going to bring your hands up.
43:21Double palm heel over the ears.
43:24Grab the head.
43:25We don't want his head down.
43:26We want it up.
43:27So we can head butt him right into the bridge of the nose.
43:31Knee strike.
43:32Push off.
43:37Tighter.
43:38Can't get the arms off.
43:40He's just too strong.
43:41I can't do the bicep takedown.
43:43I can't step in and reap him out.
43:44I can't get around and throw.
43:46So grappling throws.
43:49The arm bars virtually useless at this point.
43:54If you don't have striking skills, you're in trouble at this point.
44:00Double palm.
44:01Ears.
44:03Hopefully we're going to pop the eardrums.
44:04If not, we're still going to mess up the equilibrium.
44:06Boom.
44:08Boom.
44:09Boom.
44:10And push.
44:15One.
44:16Two.
44:17Three.
44:18Push.
44:25One.
44:26Two.
44:27Three.
44:28Push.
44:29And push.
44:30Now once we've loosened him up, we don't necessarily have to push him away.
44:33We can grapple him from that point.
44:36It's tighter.
44:38This is definitely going to loosen the grip.
44:40One.
44:41Two.
44:43Three.
44:44From there we can go into our kubinagi or our throw.
44:49And on down into the arm bar that we went over in the earlier videos.
44:58One.
44:59Two.
45:00Three.
45:01Round the neck.
45:02Forming a T.
45:03And from here we're going to sweep that leg out.
45:05And lift with your thigh.
45:09Arm bar.
45:15Tighters.
45:17One.
45:18Two.
45:19Three.
45:19And throw.
45:22One more time on the other side.
45:26One.
45:27Two.
45:28Three.
45:28Three.
45:32Three.亀
45:33наг uit
45:34desire. Three.
45:39One more
45:39time on the other side. Three.
45:41Two.
45:42Two.
45:42Two.
45:44Three.
45:45One.
45:46Two.
45:47One.
45:49Two!
45:50One.
45:50Two.
45:51One.
45:51Two.
45:56One.
45:56range or ballistic range on the street this can also be ballistic range I say
46:01that because just because we can't physically touch each other doesn't mean
46:05I can't pick a rock up and hit him with it doesn't mean I can't still reach him
46:08with a stick or pull a gun out and bust the cap on him so this is a legitimate
46:12range you may be sitting in a restaurant a bar or walking down the street and he
46:17gives me one of these looks it's looking at you like I want to tear your nose off
46:22have it for breakfast and your ears for lunch how you react to that is where the
46:26fight is going to go the best reaction is no reaction but sometimes it escalates
46:31if he actually puts his hands on you and he pushes me and I break down into my
46:36boxing stance he's there goes the element of surprise he knows that I'm going to
46:41defend myself now he knows that if he pushes me and I break down into one of
46:47these whoa he's either gonna run because he thinks I'm crazy or he's gonna attack
46:51me because he knows I'm stupid so those two are not very good to use on the
46:56street element of surprise is very important on the street he pushes me
47:00this is my stance this is my defensive posture this is my fighting stance only
47:06difference between this and this is my hands are open closed my shoulders are
47:13back I'm in this position now if he goes to push me again I can counter he's not
47:21gonna put his hands on me again chances of him pushing me give my hands up very
47:25slim he's not gonna put his hands out there carelessly to push me I need his
47:29hands close to me I need his his hands on me to execute grappling I need him very
47:34close to me in order to counter if I'm this he's gonna back off his next attack is
47:41gonna be strategic not foolish so as he pushes like whoa and remember verbal
47:48commands look I don't any trouble I don't want any trouble as he reaches
47:52again and use our parries now I don't necessarily want to go into grappling I
47:57don't have to tackle him do the double leg takedown roll him over to my guard
48:01and go for submission hold because if you're in Joe's place and you're doing
48:04that trust me if the person doesn't even know either one of you somebody else is
48:08gonna get involved either gonna go home with Budweiser up beside your head or
48:12you're gonna have Nike tattooed across your forehead something like that is
48:15gonna happen on the street if he has me in his guard say for example he takes me
48:20in his guard on the street it's a heck of a lot different than landing on this
48:26mat if we're in the bar there's maybe a there may be a bottle there instead of me
48:30picking him up and putting him on the mat I'm gonna pick him up and slam him on
48:34the bottle if we're in a street curb I'm gonna use that I'm using that
48:38environment I'm gonna pick him up and put his back through on the street curb so it's
48:42very very very important to learn how to defend yourself from standing position
48:48the grapplers came out and whipped all the strikers spanked us really good a
48:51few years ago in the UFC and they actually helped my business by doing
48:55that because I'm a jiu-jitsu practitioner however people are going too
49:00far to the left they're too far into the grappling and they're forgetting their
49:03striking skills there's a story about a bartender and a patron getting in an
49:09argument bartender asking to leave he says something to defend the jiu-jitsu
49:13practitioner he dies to take the bartender down and knocks himself out
49:17because he forgets about the bar you don't have any striking skills you're
49:21gonna be lost in the street again if you don't have any grappling skills you're
49:25also in trouble you need to be well-rounded again he pushes oh I don't
49:30want any trouble this time he reaches we're gonna use our parry lift instead of
49:35going for the joint lock I'm using an elbow strike we talked about oh smacking
49:39it down left hook uppercut elbow push it away left hook uppercut options are
49:50unlimited here leg kick going kick I don't like gripping throw I'm just gonna
49:58give you initial moves and I'm gonna assume that you have your own favorite
50:02follow-up one hey hey hey slower slower it's coming out parry lift elbow economy
50:12in motion this hand turns his body his head turns temple or chin as I'm coming
50:19back floating ribs leg kick we'll go ahead and give you a takedown just in case
50:27you're not familiar with those one two one there and reaping out slower if the
50:43weights on this leg the good thing about this reap is we're gonna tear the muscles
50:46in the groin here follow these weights on this leg and we're sweeping this way
50:50that's not I guarantee but 95 times out of 10 we're gonna tear something so I'm
51:00gonna go gentle on my hooky here parry trap elbow swim it left that's right sweet
51:15static parry trap elbow try not to go elbow to elbow we're doing as much damage to
51:22yourself as you are him goji tendon fluid and Craig's favorite part dynamic that was so fast we didn't
51:48even see the punches in that one once again so other side strike as I'm
52:02striking this and a pull back here it's a little added thing here because we're
52:05gonna if we don't shut the arm down from the strike I'm gonna shut it down by
52:11hyperextending the elbow takes very little pressure okay okay one other
52:35thing I'd like that a lot of people go to health clubs and they're learning all
52:40these kickboxing aerobics and there's a lot of the famous names out there we
52:44won't mention but there's a false sense of security with those people who think
52:48they're going to those million-dollar gyms and learning how to fight like
52:51somebody coming out of a Joe Frazier gym in Philadelphia that's like going to an
52:56arcade and sitting behind one of the driving videos and then thinking you're
53:01ready to go get in the Indianapolis 500 you need a live partner you need to feel
53:06you need not only to feel his resistance but you also need those techniques done
53:11applied to you so you understand the pain seeing again is not believing feeling is
53:19believing and unless you yourself have felt the pain the technique how do you know
53:23it's gonna work how do you know it's gonna work don't take the master's word
53:31because he says it's in the books you got to know it you got to feel it and you
53:35got to know it's gonna work because your life means more to you than someone
53:38else's word okay again as he's reaching this time we're gonna bring the hands
53:44who are swimming him down together and headbutt boom straight to the bridge of the
53:50nose don't headbutt with your lower push in your forehead we're hitting with the
53:54hairline boom boom from here we're going back to the ears strike knee push first
54:07initial push hey hey hey second one one two shot three swimming the hands out his
54:19energy is coming forward so we're going to meet him with a headbutt slapping
54:25the ears knee strike headbutt ears knee strike I don't want to push back because
54:37now I can't counter I just want to redirect his energy push push harder so his
54:45energy is is continuing in this direction headbutt I'm not slamming my head out I'm
54:51letting his face meet my head boom one two two three out one two three out again one two three
55:05out we can also add the take down to this one two three same take down
55:16preferably that's what you want you want your opponent on the ground in case you
55:19have to have to run or there's multiples one two two three down that's just another
55:31counter to a push okay once again back to the aerobic kickboxing type thing and I
55:37don't want you think I'm ditching on because I don't want a lot of people write me letters and
55:40saying how dare you talk about what we're doing because actually it is very good
55:44cardiovascular it's a tremendous exercise however as far as self-defense
55:50goes you need to have hands-on you need to have a partner even in some martial
55:55arts schools you may train I break into a stance oh he breaks in his stance oh we
56:01give a signal and we do one-step sparring I know exactly what he's going to reach
56:05with I know exactly how he's moving he's moving very mechanical again this is not realistic not
56:11only do you need to train on the mat you need to go outside you need to train in
56:14the grass you need to train on the gravel my school also trains in swimming pools it's
56:19very very important to do environmental training another thing in schools in a
56:24martial arts school where it's all about discipline and respecting your training
56:28partner on the street there's no room for that there's there's no respect there's
56:33no bowing there's nothing like what you see in a martial arts class and there's
56:38been very very many black belts I mean even black belts who will uncover magazines
56:42for winning point karate tournaments when confronted on the street they forget
56:47everything because when when you're in a real-life situation the adrenaline is
56:51practically dripping out of your ears and it's hard it's even hard to button your
56:55shirt so gross motor skills they're out the window you need common simple moves easy moves
57:06also in the school the person very respectful about how are you okay they do something something
57:11a little too rough are you okay oh yes sir I'm okay that doesn't get it on the street it's
57:16more
57:16like come here give me your wallet shut your blank in your mouth you mother this your mother
57:21that you son of a this son of a that you're not used to that in in a training environment
57:26in
57:27the school that's enough right there to blow your whole mindset if all you're used to is who
57:34cool okay your turn sir if that's all you're used to not knocking that because it's very good
57:38to learn mechanics that way but again if you want to make it work on the streets you've got
57:43to practice realistic have an open mind and willing to change
