04:51That corner perhaps will prove slightly more of a troublesome hot spot in the wet conditions this morning.
04:57All the evidence we've seen so far this morning in Moto3 and Moto2 is that that middle corner, turn 4,
05:02is lethal.
05:03Yeah, it's a bit bon jovi there isn't it, slippery when wet.
05:06Marco Betsechi yesterday picked himself up after that collision with Alex Marquez on the run through turn 4.
05:12Fastest on a Friday afternoon for the sixth time so far in 2026.
05:16He was 4th fastest yesterday morning.
05:18Very much the state of play in the full dry conditions yesterday
05:21And beautiful conditions here
05:23To kick off this farewell appearance in Philippe Island
05:26For the world's best riders
05:27That was kind of a story
05:29A pattern from 2026 throughout
05:32As it was just Marc Marquez
05:33The reigning world champion
05:35Taking on the Aprilia factory on his lonesome
05:38Betseki and Fernandes were your top two
05:40For the Niwali brand
05:41Marc Marquez then squeezing himself in third place
05:43Between Ayagura
05:45And Jorge Martín
05:47Marquez himself did a 126.901
05:50The exact same lap time actually set by Ayagura San
05:53In fourth place
05:54Ayagura rather pessimistic about his opportunities
05:57In the rain conditions for the remainder of the weekend
06:00He was dreading the prospect of the forecast being true
06:04So I'm sure when he peeled back the curtains
06:06Wherever he's staying on Philippe Island
06:08His heart would have sank this morning
06:10He expects to be super slow
06:12Those were his words, not mine
06:14Coming into wet conditions today
06:16But this is Ayagura we're talking about
06:18He will figure it out
06:19He just says that in these sort of conditions
06:21It takes him a long time to ultimately build up that confidence
06:24And figure things out
06:26And of course the weekend form as it is
06:2730 minutes of FP2 before you're straight into qualifying
06:30Ayagura does not have the luxury of taking his time
06:35Well hey Martín experience, knowledge, so so key in these wet weather scenarios
06:41And he has very, well scarcely little of it on the factory Aprilia
06:45He's done 64 wet laps on an RSGP in total
06:50And that includes on his return last year at the Czech Republic in Bruneau
06:54When it was fair to say he wasn't exactly up to full speed quickly
06:57Martín potentially going into this afternoon's sprint
07:00Having never done one full race lap in the wet on an Aprilia
07:04He did the first lap of a wet sprint from a standing start in Jerez earlier on this year
07:08And then of course he had to retire on lap 2 with his front brake dragging on
07:12So this afternoon he'll be hoping potentially doing his first ever full racing lap in the wet on an Aprilia
07:18How crucial could that lack of experience be when you're right in the heart of a thrilling and nail-biting
07:24championship fight?
07:25Well he already found in the dry yesterday that he was initially riding around this Philippine circuit with a Ducati
07:30style
07:31Which was wearing out his front tire a little too quickly
07:34He had to modify his style given that this was his first visit here on the Aprilia
07:38So Martín, it's not the kind of situation you want to be in is it?
07:40When you're fighting for a world championship and leading by two points that you're constantly learning
07:44About your package every circuit you visit, but that's the situation that Jorge Martín is
07:50And he's gonna have to go out there and get on with it
07:52And we don't normally build up these fp2 sessions too much because of course this doesn't count towards qualifying
07:57The top 10 already locked in from yesterday, but given that this is their first wet running of the weekend
08:04And they're so limited on wet running in 2026 full stop
08:09These are 30 crucial minutes just to understand the conditions
08:12And understand the bike underneath you
08:14Free practice point in Goyanya which was wet to dry
08:17There was only a handful of wet weather laps in our return to Brazil around this year
08:21And then it was free practice two on Saturday morning in Jerez
08:24Q1, Q2 and the sprint in Jerez
08:28That's the only wet track action the riders have had all season long
08:33So yeah, a lot of riders going into this weekend's action cold
08:37You look at Diogo Moreira, a classic case, a rookie
08:39I calculated his wet weather experience on the LCO Honda
08:43Moreira, I mean he will be green going into this Saturday sessions
08:48He's only done 40 rain laps on the RC213V
08:52He did the full 12 in the Jerez sprint
08:55The most he did in a single session was 13 in that Goyanya
08:58Free practice point, so just 40 rain laps under his belt for Moreira
09:03Coming into what looks like being a wet and damp Saturday and certainly a soaked Sunday
09:08The forecast for tomorrow are pretty bleak to say the least
09:11Pretty bleak forecast for the factory Honda team too
09:14They have no further participation in the rest of this Australian Grand Prix weekend
09:19Of course, Joan Mier never came here
09:20He's been suffering from illness as of late
09:23A virus has also struck down Luca Marini
09:26He got plenty of rest yesterday in the hope that he could go out on track this morning
09:30In FP2 and could take part in the rest of the weekend
09:32Unfortunately though, night sleep has brought no improvement
09:35In Luca Marini's condition
09:37So he has also withdrawn from the Australian Grand Prix
09:40Yeah, and some supreme knowledge
09:42From our pit lane buddy Jack Cavillard down in pit lane
09:45We were discussing when was the last Grand Prix that did not feature
09:48A single entry from the factory Honda team
09:51And Jack was straight in there
09:53A bang on the money
09:54Germany this actually in 2023
09:56When Mark Marquez and both Fran Mier were missing in action on that occasion
09:59I've got my cap to Jack's brilliant knowledge
10:02So here we go then
10:03It is the Michelin rain tyres which look like
10:06That's going to be the feature of the remainder of this farewell Phillip Island Grand Prix
10:11Hoy Martin then getting himself ready and prepped for a crucial, crucial
10:1630 minutes coming up for Martin
10:17Given his relative lack of experience, lack of knowledge in the wet conditions on the Aprilia RSGP
10:24This man
10:25There's a flag-to-flag scenario in the sprint this afternoon
10:29Of course history was made earlier on this season
10:31We saw our first ever flag-to-flag sprint in modern GP history
10:35Since the format began in 2023
10:36At the Spanish Grand Prix Hineret
10:38Mark Marquez won it despite crashing
10:41And potentially this afternoon as mentioned
10:42We could be set for just our fourth ever wet Tissot sprint
10:47Silverstone 2023
10:49Saturine 2025
10:50And Haret this year
10:52So it would be a bit of a novelty sprint Saturday for the world's best
10:56All of those wet sprints have been won by a rider named Marquez
11:00Alex Marquez won that Silverstone sprint three years ago
11:04And those two most recent rain-affected sprints
11:07Both won by Mark Marquez
11:09You might recall the pass markup at Zeki on the final lap at the Saxon Ring
11:12As Pekka Banyaya has had some early issues
11:14Now you might recall yesterday afternoon after his practice start went wrong
11:18Mark Marquez had to pull his Ducati over there
11:20But Banyaya has made it three corners into his out lap at the start of FP2
11:24And his Ducati stopped
11:26It rained in the system unfortunately early on then for Pekka Banyaya
11:30Who had a pretty tough day once again
11:3214th fastest at the end of free practice yesterday
11:36Yeah that Ducati has not even got into the second sector has it for the Italian
11:42He was very very frustrated very dejected and downbeat
11:47After another very underwhelming Mandelica Grand Prix
11:49Our colleague Kiko Giles
11:50I really felt for Kiko
11:51He had to do the traditional post-race interviews with several of the top riders over in Indonesia
11:58And Pekka gave him 11 words
12:00Yeah
12:00It was short and not very sweet I have to say
12:03From Pekka Banyaya
12:05Nothing really yesterday
12:06The cheer the Italian up was there
12:07As mentioned he finished 14th fastest
12:09And he was eight tenths of a second behind his direct competition
12:13And Mark Marquez on the factory Ducati
12:15And Banyaya all year has been suffering from a lack of grip
12:18He fears that his problems are only going to go get worse in wet conditions today
12:23He says I'm not usually wrong but I hope I am wrong tomorrow
12:27But it's not even the grip that's been a problem for Banyaya so far
12:31It's some sort of mechanical or technical problem on his factory Ducati
12:34And of course given how limited they are on wet weather running this year
12:38And given that they'll be going into qualifying very shortly
12:40Remember Banyaya's in Q1 in just over half an hours from now
12:44These are crucial minutes to understand the conditions
12:48Get a feeling for what the track is really throwing up at you
12:51And Banyaya is missing out on that track time now
12:54It might be one of those occasions where being in Q1 might actually work in your favour
12:58Because you're going to just have that extra 15 minutes just to be out there
13:02To dial in the wet setup through the wet setup
13:05And also just get a feel for where the grip levels are
13:07I mean we've got a 30 minute session coming up here shortly
13:09But rather surprisingly
13:11There's quite a lot of blue sky starting to poke his way through
13:15What was heavy cloud cover when we arrived at Phillip Island this morning
13:18So as you can see these live pictures
13:20Not a lot of spray being kicked up by these
13:22By the GP bikes around this 4.4km layout
13:26So we've not had a few spots of rain shortly before
13:30The green light was open for this session
13:33But it's been a while since we've had anything like torrential rain
13:36That's been battering Phillip Island
13:37Yeah we don't have an awful lot of temperature in the tarmac to dry things up
13:42If we had 25, 30 degrees of ambient temperature
13:45And that would certainly help clear all that water away
13:47We're relying on 20 MotoGP riders and these Michelin tyres
13:52Which could dump a whole heap of water up into the sky
13:56As they power around this Phillip Island circuit
13:59To try and clear the water off the tarmac
14:01You can still see the spray kicking up under Fabio Quattararo there
14:03As he made his way through turn 8
14:06So this is not a track that will dry up quickly
14:09Given the low temperatures we have today
14:11Because it was 26 degrees yesterday afternoon for practice
14:14The temperature some 10 degrees lower today
14:16There is Moreira then
14:18As mentioned pre-session
14:20This is kind of a alien territory isn't it right now
14:24For the young Brazilian having done just 40 wet laps previously on the RC213
14:29Being very much a novice which is strange to say is Nick Gibran
14:32He's a Moto2 world champion
14:33He's got a sprint podium to his name already
14:35On our overseas tour this year at Matteigi in Japan
14:38Moreira is crucially as well through to Q2
14:43Directing Q2 for only the fifth time in his impressive rookie season
14:47Of course we know he's moving to Honda's factory team in 2027
14:50Just missing out on making it two LCR Hondas in Q2
14:53Directing yesterday with Johan Zarco
14:55We know how quick Zarco is going to be in the rain
14:57He was our last rain Grand Prix winner in front of his hometown
15:00Well let's get some early Saturday morning thoughts in from Alci
15:03Our Honda boss Lucho
15:04Check in hello who joins Jack
15:05Yeah it is indeed
15:06Good morning to everybody at home
15:07As you guys have mentioned
15:08Slightly different conditions today
15:10Than the ones that were enjoying yesterday
15:13Lucho the only two Hondas on track for the remainder of the weekend
15:17We now know are going to be your two guys
15:19So does that add a little bit extra pressure
15:21That I guess you kind of become the bona fide factory team
15:25Given there are no factory riders out there
15:27Well to be honest
15:29We are always under pressure
15:30So it doesn't change very much
15:32I'm really
15:32Really sad for
15:35For the health condition of Lucho Marini
15:38And then Johan Mir
15:39And also the
15:40Reflective riders
15:43However
15:45It can happen
15:46Now we are fully focused to do our job here
15:49And yeah
15:50And try to help Honda to bring home a correct result
15:57Two guys in the box with two very different levels of experience
16:00In particular in these conditions
16:03We'll start with Johan
16:04Because I'm sure a lot of MotoGP fans at home
16:07When they see wet weather conditions
16:08Think of two names
16:10Jack Miller and Johan Zarco
16:12These are his kind of conditions aren't they?
16:15Yeah
16:16Yeah
16:16Yeah
16:16Yeah
16:17This is a condition where normally experience riders have a bit more
16:23Yeah
16:24A bit more abilities
16:26Because they know more all the details of a different race track
16:30With a different temperature and condition
16:34I would like to add that here anyway
16:37In Phillip Island
16:38It's
16:40Anyway
16:41When it's raining
16:42It's
16:43It's not that easy
16:45For any rider to ride
16:47Because
16:47Also they need to take into consideration
16:49That it can be very slippery
16:50Especially in the morning
16:51Because of the
16:52Salt humidity
16:54That the sea brings
16:55You know
16:56And then
16:57It's more challenging
17:00You know
17:00To
17:01To understand
17:02The limit
17:03Of
17:03Of the tyre
17:05Yeah
17:05You mentioned the challenge Phillip Island brings
17:07So for Diogo on the other side of the box
17:09He told us yesterday
17:10The only wet laps
17:11He's done on a MotoGP bike
17:13Of the
17:13Six or seven laps
17:14When it started to rain
17:16So just how tough
17:17Is today and tomorrow going to be
17:19Rain remains with us?
17:21Definitely
17:22Definitely
17:22We've been lucky so far
17:24With the weather
17:25Because
17:27Rain condition
17:28It was
17:29Really really
17:31Rare
17:31For us so far
17:33However
17:34However
17:34I believe that Diogo
17:35Because of his talent
17:37He will
17:38Probably
17:38Learn quick
17:40And
17:41Definitely
17:41Will follow someone
17:43And
17:43Try to
17:44You know
17:46He's got a great background in
17:47Flat track
17:48And super
17:49Supermoto
17:50So he doesn't mind the bike being sideways
17:51So just finally
17:53We didn't get the chance to catch up yesterday
17:55But confirmed earlier in the week
17:57That
17:57David Alonso
17:58One of the
17:59Brightest talents
18:00In the MotoGP
18:01Will be joining your team
18:03Next year
18:04I'm sure
18:05You're obviously sad to lose Diogo
18:06But
18:07Feels as though you're replacing one huge talent
18:09With another huge talent
18:11Of course
18:12Of course
18:13We are
18:14We are happy for Diogo
18:15We are happy for
18:18HRC
18:19We are proud to
18:21To have prepared
18:22A good rider
18:23To bring it to the
18:25To the factory team
18:27Of course
18:29Internally
18:30Personally
18:30I would have loved
18:32To be able
18:34To continue with Diogo
18:34That's
18:35That's normal
18:36But again
18:37It's part of our job
18:38And part of our
18:39Current agreement
18:40With Honda
18:41To somehow
18:42To serve
18:43Them as a platform
18:44To develop
18:44Young rider generation
18:46And then
18:46You know
18:47The next rider
18:49Is undoubtedly
18:50Another talented rider
18:52And we are
18:53Very happy
18:54And looking forward
18:55Thanks Joe
18:56Have fun today
18:57Thank you so much
18:58Yeah thanks very much Jack
18:59Thanks as always
19:00To Elcio
19:01Honda Bus
19:01Lucho
19:02Check in
19:02And we talked
19:03Or I talked pre-session
19:04About Martin's lack of Aprilia knowledge
19:07In what conditions
19:07And he is just proving
19:09Why he is
19:10One of the
19:11World's best
19:12And it just shows
19:13How quickly
19:14These guys can adjust
19:15How quickly
19:16They can adapt
19:17To sort of
19:18Strange situations
19:19That they're not accustomed to
19:20Because Martin
19:21Despite his
19:23Lack of experience
19:24In these scenarios
19:25On the Aprilia
19:26He was briefly fastest
19:27With a 140.271
19:28Awesome performance
19:30By the Martinator
19:31Mark Marquez
19:32Has just slightly altered
19:33The landscape
19:33With a
19:34138.676
19:36Which puts him
19:371.3 seconds
19:39Clear
19:39Of anybody else
19:40Fabio D'Antonio
19:41Is second
19:42Nobody else has done
19:43A 139
19:44Mark Marquez
19:45Has decided to just do
19:46138s for fun
19:47He's putting a bit of a marker down
19:49Isn't he
19:49Early in this FP2 session
19:51These kind of conditions
19:52Really do reward
19:53The riders
19:54Who have got a great
19:55Feel for grip levels
19:56And also
19:57Who are very very good
19:58At adapting
19:58To changing conditions
20:00We know
20:00Mark Marquez
20:01Is an absolute master
20:02Of that
20:03Over the years
20:05Conditions are constantly
20:06Going to be changing
20:06Of course
20:07No rain falls
20:07The track conditions
20:08Are going to gradually improve
20:09With every lap
20:10That goes by
20:11Every time you come up
20:12To a corner
20:13On this Phillip Island circuit
20:14The grip levels
20:15Are going to be slightly different
20:16From the last time you came
20:18Through that particular corner
20:19So it's so important
20:20To be on your guard
20:22On your metal
20:22And fully focused
20:24And be able to feel
20:25The grip levels
20:26Underneath you
20:26It's a bit of a sick sense
20:27You have to have as a rider
20:28To be able to feel
20:29What's underneath you
20:30Mark Marquez
20:31Unquestionably has it
20:32Sounds like a chameleon
20:33Isn't he Mark Marquez
20:34It just shows how much grip
20:35This Phillip Island surface
20:36Does offer offer
20:38In the rain conditions
20:38I mean where are we at
20:39In terms of the best
20:40Dry pace
20:41Yesterday
20:42Well that was Marco Betzechi
20:43With a 126.7
20:46So we're about
20:4712 seconds
20:49Outside of that benchmark
20:50I mean in terms of
20:51You can see the influence
20:53It has on the speeds
20:54When you come through
20:55That final corner
20:56Turn 12
20:574th gear in the dry
20:59You're already almost
20:59Up to 200 km on the exit
21:01On the apex there
21:02Top speed in the dry
21:03Yesterday
21:03360 km now
21:04And because of course
21:05When they're wet
21:06You can't carry as much
21:07Lean angle
21:08You can't be as aggressive
21:08On the throttle
21:09As part of electronic tweaks
21:11From dry to rain
21:12The teams would have
21:13Taken out a lot of horsepower
21:14You don't need all that
21:16300 horsepower
21:16In your right hand
21:18And we're seeing it
21:1830 km an hour slower
21:20Down the start
21:21Finish straight here
21:22Other than the GP bikes
21:23In the rain conditions
21:25Here was a thrilling minute
21:26Now Jack getting on
21:275th quickest
21:28Sort of topsy-turvy day one
21:30In his Phillip Island fellow
21:31Wasn't it yesterday for Jack?
21:32Seconds after he set
21:33At that stage
21:34The fastest time of the weekend
21:35He was on his backside
21:37Hurtling through the gravel
21:37Trap at Turn 1
21:38He was down again yesterday
21:40In practice at Turn 6
21:41But there was a beautiful
21:42Beautiful tribute
21:43Yesterday evening
21:44At Turn 4
21:45The call named after Jack
21:46Here in 2022
21:47Where a surprise
21:49From his Prima
21:49Pamac Yamaha squad
21:51They unveiled
21:52This absolutely beautiful
21:53Sporting colours
21:54Of Australia
21:55The brilliant
21:57Gold and green
21:58Livering
21:59Which absolutely
22:00Looks jaw-dropping
22:01All the team as well
22:02All of his
22:03Prima Yamaha crew
22:04Were sporting
22:05Cricketing legend
22:06Aussie cricket legend
22:07Murphy's moustaches
22:08Of course
22:09That was one of the most
22:10Famous bits of facial hair
22:11In the 80s
22:12And 90s
22:13Keep an eye on that
22:14Because that will be coming out
22:15This weekend
22:15Because absolute beauty
22:16Even Jack Miller
22:18I think got a little bit emotional
22:19When he saw all that
22:20Jack Miller was not aware
22:21Of any of this by the way
22:22That was all a surprise
22:23To Jack
22:24Who wears his heart
22:25On his sleeve
22:26And he certainly
22:27Feels it deeply
22:28But the pride
22:29Of being
22:30The face of
22:31Australian motorcycle racing
22:32Of course
22:33The torch will be passed
22:34For next season
22:35At this level at least
22:36In MotoGP
22:37To Senna Aegis
22:38From Moto2Star
22:39Who will be moving into
22:40MotoGP next season
22:41For Tech 3
22:41Look at a big head shake there
22:42For Mark Marquez
22:43As he makes his way
22:44Onto the home straight
22:45Clearly pushing on
22:46Is the world champion
22:48Another 1.38 for him
22:49His advantage
22:50Is now shrinking slightly
22:51Fenceki's got to
22:52Within
22:536.5 tenths of a second
22:54Of him
22:55But Mark Marquez
22:56With a clear step
22:56Over the rest
22:57At this stage
22:58Yeah his fastest time
22:59A 38.676
23:01That last lap
23:02Despite the monster wobble
23:03As he was on the power
23:04Coming out
23:05Of that final corner
23:06Was a 1.38.684
23:09So
23:10Consistently fast
23:10In this session
23:11At the moment
23:12Is the world champion
23:13As we just track him
23:14Out of that final corner
23:15Watch that rear tyre
23:16Now just starts squirming
23:17As he's asking
23:18For the power
23:20Now
23:20The immortals
23:21At that stage
23:22Would just be closing the throttle
23:23And clinging on for dear life
23:25Yeah
23:25But Mark Marquez
23:26Just kept her pin
23:27And down the gardener straight
23:29Six
23:29Or just over six tenths
23:31Of a second
23:32Everything is clear
23:32Of Vetsecchi
23:34What I just see there
23:35On the mark of Vetsecchi
23:35Is a brilliant
23:36You can see on it
23:37The riders
23:37Just shows the advances
23:39In Brembo brake disc technology
23:41In the rain conditions
23:42In previous years
23:43There's no way you could have
23:44Run carbon discs
23:44In rain conditions
23:46You'd have had to have run over
23:47Two steel discs
23:48As it was
23:48Back in the day
23:49But now technology advanced so much
23:51That you can now
23:52In wet conditions
23:53Run
23:53Carbon discs
23:54But you have to
23:55To get them in working range
23:57In wet conditions
23:58Their minimum operating temperature
24:00Is around 300 degrees
24:02So you might see
24:03All the bikes
24:04Today and this morning
24:05They will be carrying
24:06Like a shroud
24:07A cover
24:08On the brake disc
24:09Basically
24:10Of course to keep the temperature there
24:12To keep them in that working range
24:14If you don't
24:14If you leave the
24:15Carbon disc exposed
24:17They're going to be getting wind
24:18They're going to get cooled
24:19They're going to get wet
24:20They're going to get rain on them
24:21And that will cool them down as well
24:22So you can see
24:23All the riders
24:24And they've got
24:25Various different sort of
24:27Covers to put on there
24:28Sometimes you don't need
24:29The full cover
24:30Because if you've got
24:31The brake discs fully covered
24:32Well then you're
24:33Potentially generating
24:34Too much heat
24:35Even too much temperature
24:36In that disc
24:37So you'll see all riders
24:38Here particularly in Phillip Ireland
24:40In all wet conditions
24:41They will always have
24:42Those front brake shrouds
24:43The disc shrouds
24:44The disc covers
24:45Just to keep temperature
24:46In those carbon discs
24:48You'll hear us mention
24:49Temperature a lot today
24:50I think
24:50As we go through qualifying
24:51In the spring
24:52Because of course tyre temperature
24:53In conditions like this
24:55Temperature
24:55All important
24:56In terms of these
24:58Wet weather tyres
24:58When
24:59The wets function best
25:00On a wet tarmac
25:02When they're kept
25:02Relatively cool
25:03That's why when the track
25:04Starts to dry out
25:05You see riders go on
25:07To the wet tarmac
25:08Because if the wet tyres
25:09End up on dry tarmac
25:10They overheat
25:11The tread begins
25:12To break up
25:12And you're no longer
25:13Getting the level of grip
25:14You need in wet conditions
25:16This is Peko Banaya
25:18Attacking
25:18Due in corner
25:19Of turn one
25:20After his disrupted start
25:22To the session
25:23Banaya has now
25:24Clambered his way
25:25Up into the top ten
25:28Let's go down to Jack
25:30And get a little bit
25:31Of an update
25:31On the current
25:32Weather conditions
25:33We know it can change
25:34Very very quickly
25:35But what's going on Jack
25:36Yeah the rain has really stopped now
25:39And the sun was out
25:40A second ago as well
25:41Just to add further
25:42Onto what Lewis was saying
25:43With regards to the
25:44Switch over from tyres
25:45That the biggest indicator
25:46As to when the track
25:48Is starting to dry
25:49Is when we'll see
25:50Those medium rain tyres
25:52Come out
25:53A lot of people almost
25:54Referred to them as
25:54The closest thing
25:55To an intermediate
25:56In the MotoGP category
25:58Everybody on the softs
25:59At the moment
26:00Mainly because of the fact
26:02On the front tyre
26:03Is to make sure
26:03You've got the temperature
26:04On that right hand side
26:05You guys have spoken
26:06At length about
26:07Just how treacherous
26:08Turn 4 Miller Corner
26:09Can be
26:10And that's because
26:11It's the first right hander
26:12That you're breaking upright
26:13For a good long time
26:14Temperature drops out
26:16To the right hand side
26:16Of the front tyre
26:17And that's why we see
26:18So many people go down
26:20So no one brave enough
26:21To take the risk
26:22Just yet with those mediums
26:23But if it starts to dry out
26:25If this rain continues
26:26To stop
26:27Q1
26:27And then certainly
26:28Q2
26:29We may well see
26:30Some people gambling
26:31On that medium rain tyre
26:32Which will give them
26:34A little bit more performance
26:35But certainly
26:36It's a big risk
26:37With the temperatures
26:37As they are currently
26:39Yeah thanks
26:40Very much Jack
26:41As always
26:41There were some riders
26:43Overnight
26:43Pedro Acosta
26:44I'm thinking
26:45Would have been
26:46Wearing out pairs of shoes
26:47Doing rain dances
26:48Because Acosta said
26:49I wanted to chuck it down
26:50It's going to give me
26:51My best chance of winning
26:52The final
26:53Phillip Island Grand Prix
26:54Well Acosta
26:55Liking the conditions
26:56He's third quickest
26:57With a 139.54
26:59And then there's
26:59Paul Onaya Agura
27:00Who yesterday
27:01Was absolutely dreading
27:04Riding and tackling
27:05Phillip Island in the rain
27:06He said I was dreading rain
27:07I'm going to be super slow
27:08Well unfortunately
27:09It's a prediction
27:10And a forecast
27:10But he has got
27:11Absolutely bang on the money
27:13Agur at the moment
27:14We know he's a bit of a slow burner
27:16He does like to sort of
27:17Build into track conditions
27:19He's 4.8 seconds off the pace
27:22Right now
27:22Is Agur with Sam
27:23With a 143.511
27:25Which sees him
27:26Dead last
27:27Right at the back
27:28Of the pack
27:29Yeah slow burner
27:30To take the word burner off
27:31At the moment unfortunately
27:32For Agur who said
27:33He was going to be super slow
27:34In these wet conditions
27:36At the moment as you say
27:37It's going to form
27:39Another rider
27:39Who looks like he's struggling
27:40In these sessions
27:41Or this session at the moment
27:43I saw him shaking his head
27:44On track
27:44A few laps ago
27:45Is Aenea Bastianini
27:46On the Red Bull KTM
27:48Tech 3 machine
27:48He's only two places
27:50Up ahead of Agur in P18
27:52At the moment
27:52At 3.6 seconds
27:53Off the pace
27:54Saw him coming through
27:55The southern loop
27:56Around about
27:57Five minutes ago
27:58A big shake of the head
27:59From Aenea Bastianini
28:01He's another rider
28:02Not enjoying
28:03This slightly damp
28:04Philip Island
28:04The good news
28:05For the beast
28:06Is he's directly in the Q2
28:07For only the sixth time
28:09This year
28:09But once again
28:11Complaining of
28:12Zero stability
28:13Particularly in the fast sections
28:14Of Philip Island
28:15Through turns
28:162, 3, 7, 8 and 9
28:18I mean this is something
28:19That seems to have been a bugbear
28:20For Aenea
28:21Since he first
28:22Jumped on the KTM
28:24Back in the opening Grand Prix
28:25Of 2025
28:26In Thailand
28:26At Borough Ram
28:27So Pedro Acosta's rain dance
28:29And overnight
28:29Has certainly worked the trick so far
28:32Let's get some thoughts
28:33From the boss
28:33Saki Aya who joins Jack
28:34Yeah great time to chat to Aki
28:37Fresh from hearing the first words
28:38From both Pedro and Brad
28:40And what track conditions are like
28:42What did they both have to say Aki?
28:44Of course it's like a new start today
28:46After yesterday's beautiful weather
28:48But it's normal like start for the new conditions
28:54So nothing special of course
28:56Trying to understand the conditions
28:58Now it's a little bit raining again
28:59Track was drying quite a lot
29:01And of course then they have to be
29:03They have to follow the temperature of the tyre
29:06That it's not overheating too much
29:07But let's see what happens now
29:09During practice
29:11If it's raining more
29:12Then we need to monitor the situation all the time
29:15With the conditions changing so rapidly as they are
29:18How important is the work in the garage
29:21And maybe we know that a lot of the teams
29:23Have people out on track as well
29:25To get a true understanding of what's happening
29:28I imagine communication key at this time
29:30For sure that's the key now
29:32When it's raining a little bit more
29:34Or just drying
29:35Of course it's affecting so much for everything
29:39Especially for the temperature of the wet tyres
29:42So that's very important to be awake all the time
29:46Well we've spoken to Pedro over the last 48 hours
29:48He's been wanting these conditions
29:50But I have to say I can't remember Pedro
29:53Being a standout in the wet conditions in MotoGP so far
29:57So I guess it's been a process since moving into the class
30:00Of building the confidence in these conditions
30:02Have you seen anything that gives you confidence
30:05And he can be a star man today?
30:07Of course this experience
30:09And let's say that
30:13This plays a big role always in the special conditions
30:15And you can see many times that riders
30:17Who have been a long time there
30:18They are playing really well
30:20Thanks Aki, have a good one
30:21Thanks a lot
30:22Yeah, thanks very much
30:24Thanks as well always
30:24To replicating factory racing boss Aki Ayo
30:28I'm sure they'll be keeping a very close eye
30:30On KTM test rider Danny Pedros
30:32Who's riding a factory KTM
30:33Over at the Austin Formula 1 Grand Prix
30:36A special cross promotion
30:37Between Formula 1 and MotoGP
30:40Where the Formula 1 fans over in Cota
30:42Will be getting a treat
30:43As current World Superbike Champion
30:45Nilly Crown World Superbike Champion
30:47With blasting a Ducati around there
30:49Pedro Pedroso will be on a KTM
30:52Andre Vizioso has made the trip over across the Atlantic as well
30:55To power a Yamaha around Austin too
30:58So yeah, a very special demonstration going on over in Texas
31:04Very unlike Texas conditions right now
31:06Even in Philippe Ireland
31:07Mark Marquez leaving pit lane for his latest attack in this session
31:12Some of the Qatar fans out in force
31:15Plenty of them about
31:16As Johan Zarco is about to make a potential big move
31:18Tenth at the moment is Zarco
31:20Of course he was the winner of our last wet Grand Prix
31:22All the way back at Le Mans in 2025
31:24Which turned out ultimately didn't it to be
31:26An all-time classic Grand Prix
31:29In front of 120,000 fans
31:31At the Gathe Circuit
31:33A day that none of us will forget
31:34Certainly Johan Zarco will never forget
31:37I believe his father is actually here again this weekend
31:38Because his dad was there on site
31:41He joined for the parade didn't he?
31:42Yeah he did indeed joined for the parade
31:43So yeah, I mean
31:44Wouldn't that be something?
31:45If his last win at Le Mans
31:47Was in front of his father
31:49And he made a long, long journey
31:52Down to our most suddenly point on the Grand Prix calendar
31:55And if Johan Zarco was to get the job done
31:57He wouldn't stick out
31:58Of course he is a fully final winner
32:00And now 2023
32:02And of course we raced on Saturday afternoon
32:04We'll sprint later on at 3pm local time
32:08Johan Zarco
32:10Will be hoping to come through qualifying one
32:12And put himself in the thick of the action
32:13Rider behind Jack Miller on circuit
32:15Another rider who will be watching closely
32:17In qualifying one shortly
32:20We ride on board with the Aussie hero
32:22Still on soft rain tyres
32:25Maverick Vinales has been the first
32:26In this morning's FB2 session
32:28To go across to a medium front rain tyre
32:31The empty background behind the S
32:34You can see on that graphic
32:35For the soft tyres of Jack Miller
32:37Of course the jagged outside
32:39In case it's a rain tyre
32:40But the empty background means
32:42That it's a used tyre
32:43If it's a solid background
32:44It means they put a brand new tyre in
32:46So at the moment
32:47The riders choosing to go back out there
32:49On the same wet tyres
32:50That they started FB2 with
32:52The one good thing
32:54We always talk about this
32:55Don't we?
32:55The brilliant thing about
32:56Rain conditions
32:57Is the clear visors
32:58What a shot that was
32:59The concentration
33:01The focus
33:02The glare up to
33:03Through turns 7 and 8
33:05From Jack Miller
33:06Even the rain conditions
33:07He's still charging through there
33:09In 4th gear
33:10200 close now
33:11As Jack lights up that
33:13Michelin rain tyre
33:14Coming out of that final corner
33:15That's going to cost him a lot of momentum
33:17That's allowed Zarco
33:18Just to blast through
33:19On the LTR Honda
33:21And Zarco
33:21Has got up in 2nd place
33:23It's kind of going in form at the moment
33:24Isn't it?
33:25Our wet weather specialist
33:26Marc Marquez
33:28Who's won so many wet races
33:29The master of flag to flag as well
33:31He leads the way
33:33Still the only rider
33:33That's been in the 38s
33:35Joan Zarco though
33:36With a big move
33:37Up from 10th to 2nd there
33:39Marc Marquez is in the process
33:40Of potentially extending that advantage though
33:42He's just gone 4 tenths quicker
33:44Through the very first sector
33:46Of the lap
33:47Betzechi third
33:48Betzechi's no slouch
33:49In wet conditions himself
33:51You might recall though
33:51Back in Brazil earlier on in the year
33:53He wasn't particularly flash
33:54In the wet conditions
33:55As he struggled to build
33:56Any sort of tyre temperature
33:57On that Aprilia
33:59But his first MotoGP victory
34:00Was in wet conditions
34:01Back in Argentina
34:02In 2023
34:04And he did also take
34:05A wet weather pole
34:06At Silverstone
34:07Later that same season
34:09So don't rule out Betzechi
34:11If these wet conditions
34:12Persist through the day
34:13This is Marc Marquez at the moment
34:14About to destroy
34:16His own PV lap time
34:18In this session
34:18This is a bit of a marker
34:19Being laid down here
34:20This is clear evidence as well
34:21Of just how
34:22Significant the track conditions
34:24Are improving
34:24Lap by lap
34:26Corner by corner
34:26The grip levels
34:29Are improving here
34:30As the track just dries out
34:31That little bit quicker
34:32We might have a scenario here
34:33But there's no further rain
34:34Where it's going to be
34:35The last rider
34:36To cross the line
34:36In Q1 and Q2
34:37That's going to be
34:38Proving it to be
34:39So decisive
34:41Marquez then goes over the line
34:42With a 1.37.112
34:45Which for now
34:45That could change very, very quickly
34:47As you can see
34:47Joan Zarco's flying
34:48Puts Marc 2.1 seconds
34:51Clear of anybody else on circuit
34:52That should change
34:53Fairly rapidly
34:54It does indeed
34:55As Joan Zarco
34:56Finds another personal best lap
34:58Down to a 1.38.792
35:00Pega Bagnaia is struggling
35:01Down in 13th place
35:03Nearly 4 seconds behind
35:05His factory
35:07Ducati stable mate
35:08Marc Marquez
35:08What's going on
35:10With the Italian Jack?
35:12Yeah well Bagnaia
35:13As he's been mentioning
35:14For what a good
35:1518 months now
35:16Struggling with front feeling
35:17Struggling with rear feeling
35:19Obviously these conditions
35:20Just accelerate all of those problems
35:22The one slight positive
35:24The bike that he had
35:25That technical problem with
35:26Right at the start of the session
35:28He is now out on track with
35:30The guys telling me
35:30It was just a small electronics issue
35:32A quick fix for the
35:34Factory Ducati squad
35:35So Bagnaia will have
35:36Two bikes
35:37Coming up in Q1
35:38The big question is though
35:40Does he have any kind of feeling
35:41To be able to tackle
35:42Those top two places?
35:44Thanks very much Jack
35:46Yeah the 29 year old Italian
35:47Q1 in seven
35:48Of the last eight Grand Prix
35:50Just a quick reminder
35:51Then as we move towards
35:52The qualifying sessions here
35:54In Phillip Ireland
35:55Betsechi Fernandez
35:572025 Australian Grand Prix
35:58And Marc Marquez
35:59Agura
36:00Martin
36:01Alex Marquez
36:02Bastionini
36:03Acosta Moreira
36:04And the Gell Antonio
36:05Those ten already safely through
36:08To our second qualifying session
36:10Over 15 minutes
36:11So still fighting
36:12For one of those top two places
36:13Will be
36:14Zarko
36:15Who is excelling
36:16In these wet conditions this morning
36:18He's second
36:18Surely he's going to be a big, big favourite
36:20A big contender to get himself out of the only qualifying session
36:22Miller, Binder, Bagnaia, Quattararo, La Crona
36:25Inferno
36:25Inferno
36:26Inferno
36:26Fermin
36:27Aldeguerre, Mormodelli, Rins, Vinales
36:29And Augusto Fernandez
36:31Those are the rides coming up
36:32In the 50 minute Q1 session shortly
36:35Bagnaia is now up into the top ten
36:37He's got a 140 flat
36:39Still within three seconds of the phase
36:41As Martin has a bit of a warning there
36:43As he drops it through the hairpin of turn ten
36:46I think Pekka Bagnaia's worst nightmare
36:48Would have been
36:49Not only to be in that Q1 session
36:50But to find the likes of Miller and Zarko
36:51Joining him in that session
36:53That goes to show
36:54As I mentioned in Moto2 earlier on
36:56Just what a fine knife edge you're on
36:58In these conditions
36:59Between pushing hard enough
37:01And pushing too hard
37:03That rear tyre
37:04Just breaking traction
37:06Spinning up
37:07Underneath Jorge Martin
37:10Thank you for his sake
37:11He wasn't flicked over the high side there
37:13Of course you get the wheel spin
37:14And then when that tyre grips
37:17Just has a tendency to destroy you
37:19Over the handlebars
37:19And pain from one
37:20We've seen that so many times
37:21Down the years on that exit
37:22For the first gear
37:23Turn ten
37:25Top, top job this though
37:26By a top talent
37:28A top rider
37:28He's not a MotoGP world champion
37:30And a Moto3 world champion
37:31But nothing is he
37:32Jorge Martin
37:33Third quickest
37:34In this session
37:36With a 1.38.646
37:39Fair play to Marc Marquez
37:41I mean yes
37:41Those times he's doing this morning
37:43On a wet circuit
37:44Only 11 seconds
37:46Slower than Marco Bersetti's pace
37:47Than the full at dry yesterday
37:49That was when
37:50Bez was in full
37:51Time attack mode
37:52Hunting down a new
37:53All-time lap record
37:54Which might as stands
37:55Fabio Quattararo
37:57May well believe
37:58Phillip Island
37:58With a bit of an accolade
38:00A bit of a feather in his cap
38:01Because he might well
38:02Given these wet conditions
38:03Have the all-time lap record
38:06Safety took to waste
38:07Pole here last year
38:08Was a 1.26.465
38:10Not better by anybody
38:11On day one
38:12Yesterday
38:13So he looks like
38:14Flavio Quattararoa
38:15Will have the honour
38:15Of being the fastest
38:17Ever rider
38:18Around
38:18Phillip Island
38:19He's not particularly enjoying
38:21His experience at the moment
38:22Though only
38:44But the 10 riders
38:46Automatically through to qualifying two
38:47They'll be watching this upcoming Q1 session
38:50Like hawks
38:50Just to see how the track conditions evolve
38:53How the tyres
38:54And how the bikes are behaving
38:55And those with team mates
38:57In qualifying one
38:58Will surely be
38:59Hanging on their every word
39:01When they come in at the end of Q1 session
39:03To understand the very latest conditions
39:05Second eight
39:06Binder's just gone up into a tenth place
39:08As well
39:09Still only Maverick Vinales
39:11Out of our 20 remaining riders here
39:13In Phillip Island
39:15That's decided to go for anything
39:16Other than the soft
39:17Front
39:17Soft rear
39:18Right tyre
39:19Combination
39:20Vinales
39:21At the moment
39:22Just outside the top 10
39:23In 12th place
39:24In the dry conditions
39:25Yesterday
39:25No great surprise
39:26This given his ongoing issues
39:28With a left shoulder injury issue
39:30And a long rehab
39:31And a long recovery
39:32Which has dogged him out
39:33For what?
39:339, 18 months
39:34Vinales just saying
39:35He was absolutely
39:37Lacking energy
39:38No strength
39:39In the high speed
39:39Change of directions
39:40Just could not muscle that
39:42Tech 3
39:43He's 16 around
39:45He just had
39:45Super slow in turns
39:46Two and three
39:48Where you muscle the bike
39:49For left
39:49To the southern loop
39:50And you really do have to fight
39:51For the bike
39:51And then eight and nine
39:54Just did not have
39:55The upper body strength
39:56To throw the bike around
39:58Like he needed to
39:59Against David Vinales
40:00What a talk still
40:01Around the pallet
40:02But maybe
40:02Maybe we know he hasn't got
40:04A full time ride
40:04In 2027 next year
40:06A cut adrift
40:07Given his injury
40:08Hit last 18 months or so
40:09So a lot of talk
40:11And this rumour is gathering
40:12A bit of momentum
40:12That he might have actually
40:13Be employed as a Ducati
40:14Test rider
40:15As part of their new
40:17850cc project
40:18Next year
40:19Ducati hasn't exactly
40:20Been sort of shutting
40:21That rumour down as well
40:50So keep a close eye on that
40:51Out on track
40:52In any given MotoGP weekend
40:54All it takes
40:54Is one of those
40:55To be ill or injured
40:56And essentially
40:57If Maverick Vinales
40:58Is their test rider
40:59He might be first in line
41:00To jump on that bike
41:01And get some race experience
41:02Next year
41:03Which might well be
41:04If Maverick's through
41:04Back on to the full time
41:06For in the future
41:08Injury of his campaign
41:09As it for
41:09Ducati
41:10Just a reminder
41:11Fermin Aldeguer is missing
41:12From this weekend's action
41:13In the most bizarre
41:15Circumstances
41:16Crashing out of contention
41:17In Mandelica
41:18A couple of weeks ago
41:19Rather innocuous
41:20Front end washout
41:21Going through turn 16
41:23He was going to be A-OK
41:24But
41:26Frustration
41:26Getting the better on
41:27As he punched the ground
41:28In anger
41:29It broke a bone
41:30In his right hand
41:31And it's sidelining
41:32From this weekend's action
41:33Potentially also
41:34From the Malaysian Grand Prix
41:35Interfang
41:36Next weekend
41:37The Marques fans
41:38Out in force
41:39And they'll be very happy
41:40With what they have just witnessed
41:41Because
41:42That was
41:43A session
41:44Which the reigning world champion
41:46Has completely
41:47And utterly dominated
41:49Pedro Acosta is second
41:50Quickest
41:51The only other rider
41:51To find a lap
41:52In the 37s
41:53But he was over
41:548 tenths of a second
41:56Behind this superstar
41:58On screens right now
41:59Everybody else
42:00Ooh
42:01That was
42:02That was the only mistake
42:03I don't think he's done wrong
42:03All morning
42:04Mark Marquez
42:04Not much luck in that
42:05Practice down zone
42:06Has he
42:06This weekend
42:07Stalled it yesterday
42:08At the end of practice
42:09When he tried to launch that
42:10Chiquati off the line
42:11And he didn't go quite full
42:13Danny Pedrosa there
42:14And for those who know
42:15Their MotoGP history
42:16From the practice starts here
42:18But yeah
42:18The first the front wheel
42:19Lifted the air
42:20And then the rear span up
42:21For Mark Marquez
42:22Who had to bail out
42:24Only eight other riders
42:26Within two seconds
42:27At Mark
42:28At the end
42:28Of that session
42:39Yeah practice starts
42:41Haven't really been his forte
42:42So far
42:43Here this weekend
42:44Of course this afternoon
42:45At 3pm local time
42:46Over the 13 lap sprint distance
42:49He'll be looking to extend
42:50His record breaking
42:52Winning streak
42:53In sprints
42:53Last time out
42:54Taking advantage
42:55Of that tire pressure
42:56Time to come in the way
42:57Of Jorge Martin
42:58It was his 23rd
43:01Sprint victory
43:02Out of for Mark Marquez
43:03Who really has cast in
43:04On sprint Saturdays
43:05Oh well
43:06His rain dances
43:07And his prayers for rain
43:09Were answered
43:09Weren't they overnight
43:10And Pedro Acosta
43:11Making good on his promise
43:12To be strong
43:12And a big threat
43:13In the rain
43:14Because he was
43:15Second fastest
43:16Cracking ride that
43:17By the factory KTM rider
43:19A 137.935
43:21Just one of two riders
43:22That did fine laps
43:23In the 37s this morning
43:26Jorge Martin
43:26With a very good look
43:27At his rear tyre
43:28Just to see how that
43:30Coats with the
43:31Changing conditions
43:32As every lap goes by
43:34And slightly less water
43:35Is on the racetrack
43:36A bit of a high five
43:37For Mark Overtzechi
43:38So he's clearly
43:39Perfectly satisfied
43:40With P4
43:41For his Saturday morning
43:43Interesting that
43:44Pretty much every rider
43:45In the field
43:46On those rain tyres
43:48Did
43:48Full sprint distance
43:50Or just a little bit
43:51Shy of
43:52Mark Marquez
43:53Just to remind
43:53The sprint race distance
43:54Afternoon
43:55Is 13 laps
43:56Marquez did 14
43:58Acosta did 13
44:00Jorge Martin did 12
44:02Which is only one shy
44:03Of full sprint distance
44:04So similar conditions
44:06Afternoon
44:06The riders
44:07Certainly dialled in
44:08And certainly are well prepped
44:10The only two exceptions
44:11I saw during that session
44:12Were Maverick Vinales
44:13Who we saw switch
44:14To a medium front tyre
44:16And Pekka Banyai
44:17Did actually go out
44:18On his second run
44:18In FP2
44:19On brand new
44:20Soft grain tyres
44:22Mark Marquez
44:23Fastest by
44:24A fair distance
44:25In the end
44:25Pedro Acosta
44:26Managed to cut his advantage
44:27To eight tenths
44:28Of a second
44:29Jorge Martin and
44:31Third and fourth
44:32Johan Zarco
44:32Fifth we'll see him shortly
44:34In Q1
44:34Ahead of Dijan Antonio
44:35Alex Marquez
44:36Jack Miller
44:37Ralph Fernandez
44:38And Diogo Moreira
44:39Banyai eleventh
44:40After that early electronics glitch
44:42At the start of the session
44:42Vinales twelfth
44:43And Vinda Rins La Cuona
44:45Bastianini and Quattararo
44:46Augusto Fernandez
44:47Eighteenth
44:47Fourth session
44:48For Frankie Moore
44:49With Dele down in P19
44:50And exactly as forecast
44:52For Ayagura
44:53Who's down in P20
44:54Just twenty left
44:56In the Australian Grand Prix weekend
44:57Of course
44:57With both Patrick Honda's out
44:59A go at last
45:00And cut adrift
45:011.3 seconds
45:03Behind Mark Marquez
45:04Mark Marquez
45:05Then quickest here
45:06As we get ready
45:06For our final qualifying action
45:08In Flip Island
