00:00Well, I'm incredibly proud, no complacency, of the results of our investment.
00:05I remember when we first launched the Violence Reduction Unit, the first in the country,
00:10day after day we've seen examples of young people, victims of crime.
00:14I was meeting bereaved parents far too often, and people sort of said,
00:17this is a waste of time, a waste of effort, a waste of money.
00:22But I genuinely believe a public health approach, prevention, early intervention,
00:28diversion was part of the equation.
00:29Yes, we invested in the police, being tough on crime, but we invested in young people as well.
00:33And the results are quite remarkable.
00:35A 55% reduction in young people who go to hospital who've been stabbed.
00:40That's 12,500 fewer victims of knife crime, homicides going down, gun crime going down.
00:48But also, young people giving a second, third, fourth, fifth chance and fulfilling their potential.
00:53So I'm incredibly proud, but I think you're right.
00:55There's still much more to do, no complacency from us.
00:57But it shows that our strategy is working.
