00:00As Brazil is heading into a crucial presidential runoff that could
00:04terminate the country's direction, to discover more about new information
00:08happening in the South American nation, we have our special end vote in Rio de
00:13Janeiro, Belinda Santos. Hello Belinda, how are you?
00:17Hello Ana, it's actually the latest here. One of the topics that we have been
00:22following throughout the week was the proposal the first presented by
00:26President Lula da Silva to open bank secrecy and all the details and
00:31information regarding himself and his entire family if Flavio Bolsonaro, the
00:37other candidate from the Liberal Party, was willing to do the same. This was a
00:42proposition by the Workers Party campaign after the first debate in which they
00:48exchanged corruption accusations, particularly the Liberal Party was
00:53using corruption accusations in order to have an electoral measure against the
00:58Workers Party. So the proposal from Lula da Silva was to open all the information, to
01:03have it all out in the open in front of the public as long as the other candidate
01:07was willing to do the same. Of course pointing at the current links that are
01:12being investigated, particularly from the from the candidate Flavio
01:17Bolsonaro in several corruption cases. Well, after the first proposition, Flavio
01:22Bolsonaro said that he would do this only if more information was open. According to
01:28many analysts, this was a move that sought to hinder this proposal, waiting for
01:34President Lula da Silva to say that, okay, no, in the new conditions he would not do that. But the
01:39answer of Lula da Silva was, yes, of course, let's open it all.
01:43There are no anything from their part that they needed to hide. So they moved in, they
01:50moved on with this new proposal and they presented before the electoral authorities
01:56and the top court that they would open all information. This is happening today,
02:02Thursday. So both campaigns have now agreed on this. They have both presented the
02:07information they have until midnight tonight to present everything. And this
02:13information for both candidates will go to just an open access website so that
02:19anyone can look into, again, not only the bank statements, tax statements from both
02:26candidates for the past eight years and even prior to that as well, but also to
02:32several family members. Another of the measures that now is being debated is that
02:38the President Lula da Silva is insisting that all the companies and all the assets
02:44linked to each candidate, particularly Flavio Bolsonaro, are also included. They do not want
02:50any company that could be maybe under a different name, but actually linked to the
02:55candidate to the outside disinformation because that is where corruption may be
03:00happening. So we're going to see last minute and it could have a major impact.
03:05Let's recall that corruption is one of the topics on the agenda for Brazilian voters. So
03:12definitely, Ana, we're keeping an eye on what is happening after midnight tonight and
03:17tomorrow, of course.
03:19Yeah. Also, can you tell us about what can we expect in these coming days ahead of this
03:25the second runoff of the presidential elections?
03:29Of course, yes. And a lot of things, let me tell you, Ana, is happening from here. Rio de
03:34Donado is going to be a major city for the last days of the campaign because tomorrow, Friday,
03:41the last presidential debate is taking place and we will be seeing sort of like a continuation
03:46of what happened on Monday, how those topics will continue and the confrontation between the two
03:53candidates and, of course, the impact it has on the population. That second debate will be will take
04:00place here in Rio de Janeiro. And also here will be some of the major closing rallies for both candidates.
04:08So
04:08both Flavio Bolsonaro and Lula do Silva are choosing Rio de Janeiro as the place to end campaigns on
04:16Saturday. It is a key place because for bolsonarism, it's one of its strongholds. And for Lula do Silva, the
04:24city of Rio de
04:25Janeiro, it's also a place of particular importance. In the first round, they came out second and now they're
04:34trying and seeking to win back strength in the city. It could be, it could determine what happens
04:42in the end result on October. Let's recall that the final polls, the last polls to come up are really
04:50showing that that gap between both candidates is narrowing every day. Rio de Janeiro is still in the
04:57lead, but actually it's a technical tie because the difference between both are within the margin of
05:03error. So really, it's a very, very, very close race. That is all that we know for sure. And we're
05:10going to see what happens on Sunday. All of these things I was talking about, the opening of the
05:15bank secrecy, the debate tomorrow, the closing rallies will determine the final outcome, Ana.
05:22Thank you, Bill, for all the information and for providers to us and our audiences. See you in our
05:28next-end news brief. See you next time.
