00:00Did you see some of the scores from last night, Craig?
00:03I mean, you talk about embarrassing.
00:05I spent a half hour on my podcast just ripping the NBA, right?
00:09I mean, I want to like this dopey league.
00:11I do.
00:12We all grew up on Bird and Magic and Alcindor and, you know, Kareem, obviously.
00:18Not Alcindor, but Kareem, you know.
00:21But it's so hard.
00:23I mean, the Phoenix Suns.
00:24I'll start at the top.
00:25The Phoenix freaking Suns scored 12 points in the first quarter of their first game.
00:31They were outscored 21 to nothing.
00:35They started the 2026-27 season being outscored 21-nothing.
00:41How does that happen?
00:42They fell behind by 31 points after the first quarter.
00:47Do you know how bad you have to be to be trailing by 31 points at the end of the
00:52first quarter?
00:53Forget about the game.
00:54I mean, every single game last night, Clippers win by 25, Portland wins by 41, Lakers win by 22, Rockets
01:02by 18.
01:04I mean, there were 11 games last night, eight finished with double-digit deficits, only three single-digit losses.
01:12And out of the eight, only won Washington by 12.
01:16All the others were 18 points or higher.
01:19I mean, I don't know how you start a season and get your butt kicked.
01:24At home or on the road, didn't matter.
01:27I just, it's mind-boggling.
01:29It really is the NBA.
01:31Yeah, and the game that I had my eye on, Scott, living in South Florida is obviously the Heat, and
01:37they got blown out, kind of, I guess, by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
01:41And, you know, and with the Heat, it was like if you dreamed up a perfect scenario, it was the
01:47exact game that Giannis gave you in game one of the NBA season, and you still lost by that much.
01:53So, look, I'm more of a new-school guy.
01:58I still very much love all the LeBron Miami years here, you know, the Shaq years, of course, with the
02:05Lakers.
02:06I just think it's the last four or five years for me, Scott, that I've really turned off.
02:11Like, I talk about it with the guys here a lot, that, you know, it's the one sport that, as
02:16my kids started to need me just a little more in life, and I wanted to do that, I was
02:22like, I have to eliminate something from sports.
02:24Like, something's got to go.
02:25And it became Sacramento-Portland at 1030 at night.
02:28I'm like, I'm not doing this anymore.
02:30Like, this is it.
02:30I'm just not committing to these late-night games.
02:33And then it became a lot of the NBA, and just handicapping it and watching it on a nightly basis,
02:38because it was really hard when my son wants to go see, oh, you know, I've never seen LeBron play.
02:44Cool.
02:44All right, let's get tickets.
02:45Wait a second.
02:46Is he playing?
02:47Like, why wouldn't he play?
02:48I mean, they've been off for two days.
02:49Oh, he's still not playing?
02:51And that's the kind of thing where you're just not going to be able to turn me to it.
02:54I still think the talent is incredible.
02:57Wemby, Luka, all of these great players.
02:59Jokic is one of the best players we've ever seen.
03:01That hasn't changed.
03:02But the regular season in that sport used to be amazing.
03:08I used to watch every night.
03:10I mean, it was must-watch every single time.
03:12Not just Michael Jordan and the Bulls.
03:14It was every team.
03:15But now you're asking me to commit at 7.30 at night, forget about going to games, just committing to
03:23two hours of my time where there's a 50-50 shot if my guys are going to play in the
03:28game.
03:28And I just can't get behind that.
03:30I don't know how they fix that.
03:32But to your point, that was the talking point last night.
03:37A lot of people were like, what is this NBA after last night?
03:40A lot of folks on social media were like, wow.
03:42The league is not going to be able to get away with this for the next five months of having
03:47teams just not give a crap.
03:48And, Scott, the bigger question does remain.
03:50And I understand the Heat did lose.
03:51So maybe that's anecdotal a little bit.
03:53But what if these teams are just like, you know what?
03:56Let's take care of our paying customers.
03:58Make sure we show up at our home games.
04:00And we go on the road.
04:02We may lose by 20 or 30.
04:03But really, in the end, it's only those people that watch on TV.
04:06There's NFL owners that are like, hey, we got to make sure we win our home games.
04:09If we lose on the road, it's okay.
04:10But there's only 16 of those.
04:12There's 17, Scott.
04:13There's 41 of these that you got to deal with on the road.
04:16I'm curious how this league plays out, let's just say, this season.
04:20Because to your point, there was some ugly basketball last night.
