00:02evidently david pagnota to your calls in a moment 803 05 50 guests at four and five eastern today
00:10right back in the eastern time mode here myself what are we watching what is this golf uh this
00:16is the uh this is the butterfield bermuda championships mike it's the first round
00:21uh on the golf channel every time i see golf in bermuda i think to myself did i play there
00:27i did not play at this golf course when i saw it on the guide i i think i said
00:34out loud oh pga tour
00:35golf bermuda you played golf in bermuda all right we're there that's it that's what we're watching
00:40i played at st george's and i think the big one is called st james i'm not even sure i
00:49this is called
00:50port royal and i don't think it was this okay where i played like babe ruth played wow and presidents
00:58with you yes we had a two-man scramble it was me and babe ruth against gandhi and martin luther
01:08what a matchup i mean it was really incredible right down to the last putt what a job what a
01:14job
01:14you just did there right down to the last putt and babe you know as you would expect nailed it
01:18just
01:18drilled a 10 footer yeah boom we won but there was no money because guys like gandhi and martin luther
01:25they're not going to like bring money they're not about money they're about just sort of goodwill
01:29they they blessed us and we left when the bambino made that putt did he run around the green in
01:34that
01:35sort of fast motion the way he looked when he ran the bases where he can't like bend his knees
01:38because
01:39the the video is so antiquated it looks fun we we made out we not only hugged we made out
01:44after the
01:45what a moment talk really talk slower it was really incredible what happened here no it wasn't i don't think
01:51it was this place that's a that's a wrap on that let's go to mike hello mike hi how's it
01:59going great
02:00mike how's it going with you oh not as good as playing with gandhi but i know right what a
02:07lot
02:07to play against him a lot of pressure yeah i was just gonna say what do you guys think the
02:13biggest
02:13sabers trade was um since they're not doing anymore like acquiring an asset and giving away asset you know
02:20like turgeon for la fontaine or getting grand fear that you can think of recently besides eichel right
02:30i mean the eichel trade got you talk and that was a pretty nice piece but that was still a
02:35gun to your
02:36head trade not a let me go get a whale trade what's the last sabers trade where they got the
02:40best player
02:42i don't know josh doan josh doan josh doan i mean okay i mean that okay but that i i
02:56think i think
02:56that well i mean i'm i like peterka a little more than some people uh but still i think that
03:02still
03:02that looks like a win although not at the time he's no no that's supposed to be the best player
03:06no that's right he was a he was kind of an afterthought it was like you know oh hey don't
03:11sleep on this guy he might be turning to something and you know he very quickly did is there anyone
03:16on
03:16the team that doesn't meet the criteria that they traded for that was like that's the best player in
03:20the trade norris almost but that was close yeah yeah i don't know it's not what they do no it's
03:29just
03:29not what they do going out and getting top players is not what they do maybe i'll be given credit
03:38for
03:38speaking that into existence now maybe now they'll do it but no i mean that's just not the sabers
03:43they give away the best players and they get youth and prospects and draft picks and they cross their
03:49fingers matt is next hi matt matt you're there
03:58just wind dwayne is next hello hey guys uh thanks for taking my call um uh hold on big fan
04:08of your
04:09son and uh brad uh right before you guys uh they put on a great show just wanted to give
04:14them a shout
04:14out uh all right thanks yeah no problem uh the upl thing um here here's just my quick thoughts on
04:22it
04:22and all this all the talk and speculation and the rumors the hell of a i just think that this
04:29is who he
04:30is given everything you saw from him last year this is who he's been since rochester he's been
04:36pro since 2018 he never really held a above 900 state percentage there he took
04:44the traditional development path and this is just who he's always been and he went through the
04:49process right he went through the process of what it takes to become an nhl goalie did his three years
04:54in rochester and we're still having the same conversations about him that we had two years
05:00ago in terms of him how he over pursues pucks i mean i think this is where i respect owen's
05:05thoughts
05:06on it because he is a much bigger goaltender he just moves a lot upl moves a lot for a
05:12guy
05:14who is so big and then like that that goal last night the third goal is a perfect example of
05:20it
05:20i mean just get back to your post you did the one thing you're not supposed to do in that
05:23position
05:24the situation is skate backwards and that's what he did and that's why that puck popped it that puck
05:29popped in off him i just and then in terms of like the hellebuck stuff i can't imagine having that
05:35meatball in that goalie room it's probably doing good for anybody so i just really hope they get this
05:40thing figured out sooner rather than later just because it's as much as you say what it's not a
05:46distraction a goalie any pro player will say it's not a distraction it has to be like out there in
05:51his head and in terms of what was said on the morning show and how it's always upl's fault everybody
05:58criticizes them you want to know what ryan miller yeah was once called mr softy i was thinking about
06:05that this morning i was mr softy yeah and there was a t-shirt uh t-shirts made for a
06:13part of his
06:14career where the the fan base was split in half team miller team enross and he had to deal with
06:20that
06:20and you know what he's probably if not the second best best if not the second best american-born
06:26goaltender that ever lived so i don't really want to hear about oh it's his you know everyone blames
06:31him that's great he should be he's a professional he's a professional athlete when you get to this
06:36level you should be able to learn to block that stuff out and if you can't block that stuff out
06:40and if you can't get past that then maybe you're just not a starting goal in nhl he's a really
06:45good
06:45backup in my opinion i think he's he's a fantastic like backup situation your starter goes down he can
06:52go out and win you three or four out of five games but in terms of like playing an entire
06:56season
06:57the way hellebuck does it's just he's just not that guy he hasn't been that guy he hasn't been
07:02proven to be that guy and if you want him to be your backup that's great but he's not your
07:07starter
07:07and if you expect him to be uh and i've always said like what separates the upls or the guys
07:16like upl
07:16from the counter hellebucks is yeah he can make those crazy athletic saves we've seen it time and time
07:22again but it's those saves that you need to make 99.999 percent of the time that he lets in
07:28like
07:29the game two in boston like game seven versus montreal like the third goal last night he doesn't
07:34always make those saves the guys like conor hellebuck vasilevsky chester skin they make those
07:40saves and i think that's why the fans want this done so bad is because he's going to make those
07:46saves
07:46you're never going to question him in those situations okay thanks thanks duane i mean i think
07:51that that's part of it i'll just say again i think also though that fans are probably more
08:00on edge or frustrated with this than normal or not normal for us but just sort of like an nhl
08:08average
08:09kind of environment because of the sabers history we just don't have any evidence that they're gonna go
08:19get it last year was awesome i'm not saying they lucked into it but it wasn't because of anything
08:27they did i mean they had good players that finally decided to get after it and they got hot and
08:33that
08:33did a lot of good for them and look what happened but it wasn't because like they went and got
08:40the best
08:40player in the league and put them on the team and then they started winning the sabers and you can't
08:45just do that i know but that's why it's like this here you know in a vacuum lucanin's numbers are
08:56what
08:57they are and you could get worked up about them or not you could blame him for them or not
09:01but we all
09:03know that the sabers never do anything about it so that's what gets frustrating is that they just
09:12never do anything to get better it's always about getting better later if at all like bulldog said
09:20earlier very smartly and the team knows that the players know that yeah and i didn't need connor
09:28hellebuck when this idea came to the surface months ago but then it sort of hit me well this is
09:35not a
09:36thing the sabers ever do anyway and maybe it's the problem the fact that they never do this they
09:44never do this they never go get the guy right and even coaching with due respect to lindy they go
09:51get
09:51lindy when he's kind of like at the back end of his career when they got him in the first
09:55place he
09:56had never coached before all their coaches all their gms are all just like experiments not so much
10:01bilesma that didn't work out anyway so or kakalainen but yeah i mean right but but i wanted to give
10:08kakalainen the benefit of the doubt here's a serious guy with a good reputation all right yeah it's the
10:15same yeah it's just the same like it's just trading for futures and the world goes by and that's why
10:22i
10:22think people get more restless in this case about lukinin than normal or that other like any other
10:31situation on another team because we kind of know from decades of being fans of the sabers that
10:38just gonna go by i mean you want to win the stanley cup or don't you do you i mean
10:45are you serious or
10:46not do you want to spend the money or not do you want to spend the prospects or not yeah
10:52what do you
10:53think what usually happens nothing you should sit here until enough of the young guys hit at the same
11:00time and they get really good but you know we went through a period where that didn't happen for
11:0515 years um and you know i i don't i don't want to assume that we're reverting back to that
11:12just
11:12because they're you know under 500 to start the season here but there's just a lot the caller's point
11:19about you know the mental ability to handle the pressure and the noise is a good one and i was
11:29thinking about miller and his our experience talking about him and covering him for you know the years
11:37that he was here and how bumpy at times it it did get um the lukinin thing something miller never
11:45had to
11:45deal with though was the specter of not only the entire fan base but maybe the entire organization
11:56wanting to do something different that would certainly be perceived as an upgrade as better
12:02and then falling short and then having to just sit in the tub with that and that's where lukinin is
12:10right now and look i i i'd like to have um people in my life or playing for the teams
12:17that i love that are
12:19mentally emotionally strong enough to handle that but i think i think it can be a heavy lift if you
12:27feel
12:27like guys that you are eating dinner with privately are like man we have hell a buck that's just a
12:37lot to
12:37carry around and again yeah you gotta put that over there and go stop the puck but over there is
12:44growing and it's not i don't think the noise i don't think it's just out here
12:51i i would stun me if there weren't multiple guys on that team that are just like us
12:56all summer like going where's the what are we doing are we gonna do something
13:01guys what's that oh okay it's training camp we don't okay not yet okay
13:06they they it was called for action was called for not just because i'm bored not just because i've
13:12never won anything in my freaking life not not none of that it the timeline in pro sports dictated
13:19that they become bold and they did not
13:24and it's a miss and the fallout is everything that we're just talking about here lucanin's emotional
13:30state the team wanting a move it's all just broiling on the stove and they chose to not have enough
13:41hands to stir the pots 8030550 mike show up in the bulldog back after this here on wgr
13:47you
