A major political row has emerged over the police handling and detentions during the CJP protests in Delhi, alongside criticism directed at the central government's development model. The response to the demonstrations drew scrutiny regarding the detention of protestors, with references made to past stances on police crackdowns during anti-corruption rallies at Ramlila Maidan. Concerns were also voiced regarding regional economic equity, asserting that broad-based nationwide growth across southern states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala must be prioritised over concentrating major industrial investments and international sporting events solely in Gujarat. Meanwhile, political leaders responded sharply, accusing critics of political fence-sitting while defending policy decisions and governance priorities.

00:00One of the biggest talking points on social media over the last 24 hours has been over
00:05We The Leaders founder, Anna Malai's comments on the CJP stuff.
00:11He's been the poster boy of the Tamil Nadu BJP and now he's criticising the BJP over
00:16their handling of the CJP protests.
00:19This, in fact, social media post by Anna Malai where he's gone into great detail of why he
00:23doesn't stand by what the BJP did on the Delhi police's handling of the CJP protest
00:28went viral quickly, with the BJP hitting back at the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief.
00:40After quitting the BJP and launching a new movement, We The Leaders, Anna Malai is going
00:45all guns blazing against his former party.
00:51Supporting the CJP stir in Delhi, Anna Malai said protesters should not be detained.
00:58He questioned the Delhi police's method of detaining the demonstrators.
01:03I may not agree with many of the CJP's mode of protest.
01:06I may not agree with the way CJP, some of their antics of CJP.
01:10That's a different argument.
01:11But I completely support CJP in terms of what the questions they want to raise.
01:16Fine.
01:16It is for the government to answer.
01:18But to arrest them for a violation and again to drag them in terms of how they spend their
01:24time in a jail, that is only going to make the leaders of CJP more stronger, I'm afraid
01:28about it.
01:29Anna Malai also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2011 statement made when he was Gujarat
01:35chief minister, criticising the midnight police crackdown on anti-corruption protesters at
01:41Ramlila Maidan.
01:44Anna Malai said Modi was absolutely right at the time to assert that there was nothing wrong
01:49with protesting.
01:53These comments have kicked off a political storm with the BJP particularly not holding back
01:58in its response.
02:03Previously speaking about criticising BJP, Anna Malai made it clear there was no Lakshman
02:08Rekha on attacking BJP when they are wrong.
02:34Previously too, the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief attacked his ex-party saying he doesn't agree
02:40with the Gujarat model of governance.
02:43The Gujarat-centric model of Delhi development has to change a bit and you can't have all
02:48the AI companies going there, all wafer companies going there, 2030 Commonwealth Games going there,
02:532030 Polis Games going there, 2036 Olympic Games going to Ahmedabad.
02:57You cannot have this Gujarat model of all India development.
03:00That has to break.
03:01People are watching.
03:02People in Andhra are watching.
03:03People in Tamil Nadu are watching.
03:04People in Kerala are watching.
03:05It has to be a genuine broad-based development.
03:07Only then a national party will be accepted in a tough place like Tamil Nadu, when you are
03:11fair to all the people.
03:15There's a shock factor to hear the former poster boy of the BJP in Tamil Nadu now lashing out
03:21at the party.
03:24His views though has brought in a whole lot of support from Dravidian parties.
03:31The government has to change its priorities.
03:33The government is very insecure.
03:35They are insecure about the criticism that is happening against them.
03:39They should grow some spine.
03:41They should have some thick skin if they want to survive in politics.
03:46They should not misuse the police machinery.
03:49Now, Narayan Zirupadi says, Annamalai completely supported SIR.
03:55While Vinoj P. Selvam says that for Annamalai, national security has become a boring subject
04:01and Annamalai is dressing fence-sitting as wisdom.
04:05The fun, promote mother, point strain.
