00:00The world is heading for more global warming than previously expected.
00:05According to a new United Nations report, even the most optimistic scenario,
00:10temperatures will rise beyond the target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
00:16And under current government policies, global temperatures could rise by as much as 2.8 degrees by the end of
00:24the century.
00:26The report said governments are still not doing enough to cut greenhouse gas emissions,
00:31despite the rapid growth of renewable energy.
00:34And even if countries fulfill all their existing climate pledges,
00:38global warming is still projected to reach 2.6 degrees by 2100.
00:43The UN says its latest projections are worse than last year's,
00:47partly due to the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement.
00:51It's said that bringing temperatures back down would require much deeper emissions cuts
00:55and large-scale removal or carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
00:59But whether that can be achieved on such a scale remains uncertain.
