00:31Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday called for a trilateral meeting with U.S. and Russian leaders, Donald Trump and
00:39Vladimir Putin.
00:41Zelensky said so following talks with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Oslo.
00:46The Oslo meeting, which was hosted by Norway and Finland, comes as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to end Russia's
00:54war in Ukraine.
00:54We have some clear ideas on how to get to peace, and we are united with our European partners in
01:04this effort, and we want the Americans to take these ideas to the Russians.
01:10And one of the important ideas is to move to a trilateral, potential trilateral meeting of the leaders to address
01:18the issue that only the leaders can do.
01:22Steve is going to Russia tomorrow, and let's see what Putin has to say.
01:28Speaking at the press conference, Zelensky also said that U.S. intelligence sharing is again working effectively.
01:35This allows Ukraine to receive early warnings of Russian strikes.
01:40According to Zelensky, the change happened after talks with American officials, including a phone call with Secretary of State Marco
01:47Rubio earlier in the day.
01:53The EU's foreign policy chief, Gaya Galas, has warned that suspected Russian drone strikes on civilian shipping in the Black
02:00Sea are piling further pressure on global food supplies.
02:04Galas said vessels had come under attack six times in ten days.
02:08The strikes have hit ships off the coasts of Romania and Bulgaria.
02:11Russia is intentionally weaponizing food and undermining global food security, in particular Africa, Asia and Middle East.
02:21To avoid further deterioration of the situation, the European Council calls for the immediate restoration of safe passage for civilian
02:31shipping, merchant and commercial vessels in the Black Sea.
02:36Galas has accused the Kremlin of trying to choke off Ukraine's income.
02:40Ukraine is one of the world's leading exporters of wheat, maize and barley, most of which leaves the country by
02:46sea.
02:47Last week, EU leaders called for safe passage for civilian shipping in the Black Sea to be restored immediately.
02:58The European commissioners in charge of the EU's external action have pushed back against proposed cuts to the budget's global
03:06Europe instrument,
03:07warning that funding must match the bloc's global ambitions.
03:11Without adequate resources, the EU risks losing influence on the global stage and being more vulnerable to external factors, reads
03:20their letter seen by Euronews.
03:22The letter replies to Parliament's lead lawmakers on the instrument after the Irish presidency of the EU Council proposed a
03:3017.4% cut to the programme.
03:33EU leaders largely rejected the Irish proposal at last Thursday's summit.
03:39European Council President António Costa is expected to present a new compromise before a special summit on November 26th,
03:47and the letter appears aimed at shaping it.
03:51The commissioners warn that reducing the programme's funding could have major consequences for the EU
03:56and its partners on security, stability, prosperity and migration and weaken the bloc's ability to forge mutually beneficial partnerships.
04:05For the five commissioners, an ambitious global Europe budget is also key to tackling emerging threats,
04:12such as information manipulation, hybrid attacks and maritime insecurity,
04:17while keeping the flexibility to respond swiftly to crises and shifting priorities.
04:28Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary has called European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen useless,
04:34accusing her of talking about competitiveness while doing nothing to deliver it.
04:39In an interview with Euronews Europe Today, O'Leary was highly critical of European institutions.
04:45You know, she's useless.
04:47We have, Europe has a roadmap for being more competitive.
04:51It's called the Draghi Report.
04:52Two years later, not one of its recommendations has been implemented.
04:55You have that ship of fools in the European Parliament redesigning more regulations designed to increase the cost of air
05:02travel
05:02when consumers want lower fares.
05:05O'Leary attacked EU environmental taxes that apply only to flights within the bloc.
05:10American, Asian and Chinese careers are exempt.
05:13We apply environmental taxes only to intra-EU flights.
05:17We don't tax the Americans, we don't tax the Asians, we don't tax the Chinese.
05:21They can, despite the fact that their flights account for more than 53% of Europe's CO2 emissions, we exempt
05:26them.
05:27O'Leary was in Brussels to announce Ryanair's winter schedule.
05:31The airline is cutting a million seats and 20 routes from Belgium
05:35after Badeuweva's government raised its air travel tax from 2 euros to 7 euros per ticket.
05:42We're moving aircraft to those countries who are competitive.
05:46Belgium is not competitive.
05:48France is not competitive.
05:49Germany is hopelessly uncompetitive.
05:57French President Emmanuel Macron is in Qatar for a state visit and talks with the Amir
06:02as part of his Gulf tour aimed at securing energy supplies for France
06:06but also for strengthening France and Europe's ties with the region.
06:10France has been one of the main supporters of Qatar's defense during the war
06:14and the Gulf nation has constantly hailed this help.
06:17The talks in Doha are focusing on the region's stability, including its energy supplies, to Europe.
06:23Macron's delegation includes the heads of France's biggest energy companies
06:27and the war is having a huge impact on Qatar's gas shipments to France and to Europe.
06:32So the two countries are working together on reopening unimpeded transports through the Strait of Hormuz.
06:38Qatar has been mediating between the U.S. and Iran,
06:41trying to reach an agreement that would allow ships to move freely through the Strait again
06:46and Macron's visit is bringing support to these efforts.
06:50The two leaders' agenda is also focusing on wider defense cooperation,
06:54investments and efforts to ease tensions in the region
06:57as well as France's and the EU's strategic ties with the region.
07:01And back in France, after major protests and violence rattled the country,
07:06Macron is under pressure to prove that this trip makes a difference
07:09to the increasing French cost of living.
07:11According to Ilisei sources, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain
07:16are set to supply France with additional diesel in the coming weeks.
07:21Mohamed El-Ashi, your news, Doha.
07:48I'm Garrick Australian, co-founder and director of the Storms Festival,
07:54which was created in 2011.
07:57It was an amazing, amazing accumulation of brains and artists here in one place,
08:03paying a tribute to Professor Stephen Hawking.
08:06It was a single event which I'm sure inspired thousands of kids and young people
08:12who would choose science or arts for their future.
08:29Communicating science to general public is a very serious, very serious project,
08:35so it cannot be done simply by a couple of journalists and some few films
08:40because we live in the 21st century and we are in social media.
08:44We compete with entertainment industry
08:48and science community cannot really compete with this industry.
08:52So there's two ways.
08:54All science will join arts and join forces
08:58and together we'll do science communication
09:01and that's what we are trying to do.
09:04So we bring in giant filmmakers, sci-fi writers, musicians
09:10who with their arts inspire generations to go to science.
09:18So I can't say how many millions were inspired by interstellar film,
09:25by Blade Runner of Ridley Scott
09:27and the Hawking Medal is precisely for this.
09:32So it's not an Oscar in arts
09:34but it's an Oscar to recognize science communication value of artists
09:41which is a huge potential.
09:44So we are so proud, really.
09:46We are so proud to have the Hawking Medal with us for 10 years
09:50and bringing it to the best people, best artists
09:54and best scientists and science communicators in the world
09:56like Brian Cox, Neil deGrasse Tyson
09:58and we gave just it to our Temis II crew.
10:13So we have to evolve young community more and more into Starmas.
10:17This is our first goal, go to young generation.
10:23And the second thing, we have to make sure
10:26that the next level of the Stephen Hawking Medal
10:29will go now to most talented artists
10:34who are less known in public
10:36because we have already achieved this goal
10:38bringing the best of the best.
10:40Now we have to find hidden talents,
10:44hidden science communicators, hidden talents
10:47and bring them in
10:49and make sure that they collaborate with science
10:51and with public so they are well known.
10:57Pickles in a lemon tart?
10:58It's one of the flavor combinations AI has come up with in Japan
11:02and some of those ideas bring together unlikely combinations.
11:08Take this canelé,
11:10a French pastry made with sweet potato puree
11:12and finished with caramel sauce.
11:15The chain behind it, Family Mart,
11:17says it aims to find a fresh idea
11:19that customers would want to buy.
11:21At rival chain Lawson, AI suggested
11:24adding pickles to a lemon tart.
11:27Good.
11:28It's good.
11:30Yeah.
11:34I thought it was good, but it's good.
11:36It's good, isn't it?
11:38It's a surprise.
11:39It's a different taste, but it's good.
11:41It's good.
11:42Lawson put the flavor on sale in Tokyo
11:44and surrounding regions in September.
