Trump Zelenskyy clash: Trump says Ukraine should replace Zelenskyy as Russia strikes kill civilians | World Wire
Donald Trump has launched his fiercest attack yet on Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying it is time for Ukraine to find somebody else to negotiate an end to the war with Russia. Speaking to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House before a campaign trip to Kansas, Trump said Zelenskyy should have had the war settled long ago, and defended Vladimir Putin, claiming Russia has, quote, been fine on Ukraine.
The rupture comes as fighting intensifies on both sides. Russian strikes hit a park in Ukraine on Monday, killing ten people, including two women and an infant in a stroller, according to reports. Over the weekend, attacks on Zaporizhzhia killed a woman and wounded a six-year-old girl. Ukraine, meanwhile, launched more than one thousand drones at targets across Russia on Sunday, setting fires at an oil export terminal and a fuel depot in St. Petersburg, according to reports.
At the heart of the feud is oil. Trump demanded Kyiv damn well stop hitting Russian refineries; Zelenskyy refused, telling the Financial Times the block is out, we are done. Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff heads to Norway this week for the next round of talks, with reports saying Zelenskyy may attend.
