Zelenskyy warns the US siding with Putin would be a historic mistake — his full NBC Meet the Press interview on Trump, sanctions and Starlink.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy used a rare Sunday interview on NBC News' Meet the Press to warn that the United States would make a "historic mistake" if it formally sided with Vladimir Putin over Ukraine. "If the United States officially takes the side of Russia, of course we will not prevail, and we will not be able to stand," he told moderator Kristen Welker.
The warning followed a dramatic few days in Washington: President Trump signed an executive order waiving sweeping new sanctions against Russia passed by Congress last month, calling the move "in the national interests of the United States." According to reports, the waiver came days after a deal with Putin to release hundreds of thousands of tons of Russian diesel fuel onto the global market. Zelenskyy also told NBC that US intelligence sharing was briefly blocked and limits were placed on Starlink satellite technology, leaving Ukraine blind to incoming Russian ballistic missiles. The interview capped a bruising week that saw Trump cool on sending long-range Tomahawk missiles and announce plans to meet Putin in Budapest in the coming weeks.
