00:00Wakeree is one of the nation's food bowls but there's far more on the table
00:04in this enterprising town. Once known primarily for citrus, Wakeree's farmers
00:10are embracing new ideas, diversifying, value-adding and taking the region's
00:15produce to markets around the world. The beginning of Wakeree was against all
00:21odds almost so we've had to get in and do it ourselves. We need creative thinkers,
00:26we need intuitive thinkers and so you know my aim is to make sure that that
00:30happens here. I think we go above and beyond what some of these larger
00:36towns do. We've got businesses which export both interstate and overseas.
00:43We've got people that have I think just worked through the process that you can't
00:48just keep producing stuff. There's lots of little niches that we can all fill.
00:54Everyone's always looking for something different to grow to get that competitive edge.
00:59What's happening, the changes that are happening and the resilience. We're actually growing and
01:07becoming more vibrant. Wakeree's farmers are backed by the school, businesses and the wider community,
01:14spurring on the town's continual evolution. It's this ambitious drive that has earned Wakeree its place
01:20as a finalist for the 2026 Agricultural Town of the Year.
