00:00This is the $60 bread that has the internet going insane.
00:06No, like nothing's happening. This is a puck.
00:08It's day nine of ordering just the bread.
00:11And today we're doing something a little different and going to Rye,
00:14an Austrian bakery here in Soho.
00:16Do you guys think this is worth it or have we completely lost the plot on bread?
00:20It's humongous. Don't come for me, you guys.
00:23I am just doing the journalism here.
00:25The crazy part is this bread from their bakery in Austria costs €14 and here it costs $60.
00:31And then they also sell it with all of these different options like the bread bowl,
00:37the serrated knife, the butter knife.
00:39Just to put your bread in this bowl is $480.
00:42The bakery points to the loaf size.
00:44It's imported Austrian organic rye, extensive labor process,
00:48and then obviously the cost of setting up the bakery on Lafayette Street in Soho.
00:52All of those things factor into this price.
00:55The starter that they use is 57 years old.
00:59Let's try the slices first.
01:00I feel like I've seen so much of the bread or the bread of the bread,
01:02but I want to try the slices and see if this helps make the price make sense.
01:07I like bread as a vehicle.
01:09I think each one of these was like $8 or $9 each.
01:13This is just like a major social experiment and we're a part of it.
01:16That being said, it's not a bad culinary experience.
01:19Like the bread was good, the jams and butters and spreads all tasted good.
01:23But when you know that you're spending that much per bite,
01:26it just kind of sours the experience a little bit.
01:29Despite that, is asking New Yorkers to pay $60 for bread too much?
01:33What do you guys think?
