00:02It's been a tough week in Wyala, with the first of hundreds of workers taking redundancies
00:07at the steelworks. 400 kilometres away in Adelaide, the Premier was talking up their
00:12job prospects with new employers.
00:14These people will be able to quickly transition into the workforce, including in the upper
00:18Spencer Gulf.
00:19Businesses standing with Federal and State Ministers to promote a potential pipeline
00:23of jobs for those facing unemployment due to the closure of Wyala's blast furnace.
00:28It's a very tough time for the town at the moment.
00:31The skills are there, the people are there, they're capable of doing the work.
00:34So far more than 750 workers have been through the Government's Employment Transition Centre
00:40in Wyala, where several companies are offering jobs.
00:44Technicians, trade assistants, those looking to move from some trades across into different
00:49trades and warehouse staff, parts staff.
00:52Authorities talking up the number of potential roles, saying more than 600 positions are now
00:58available for former steelworks employees, with Cavpower offering 50 jobs, according to
01:04the Government.
01:05Is 50 jobs right though?
01:06Is that the number roughly that you would have out there potentially for people?
01:10I can't comment on a specific number of roles.
01:13As I said, the roles we have available are on our website.
01:16It remains to be seen just how many steelworkers will be able to get jobs at the businesses that
01:21the Government has highlighted.
01:23They could also face the prospect of having to leave Wyala to take up employment.
01:28That loss could have a further flow-on effect in the city.
