00:41crowd, please welcome, John Bishop, Jay, well, there he is, thank you for being here, thank you for being here,

00:59this vast-enominated star of Ghosts and Wicked Little Letters is making her West End debut in the Tony and
01:06Olivier Award-winning comedy, Oh, Mary, oh, lolly, it's Lolly and Afope!
01:13Yay!
01:14Yay!
01:17Hi, darling.
01:18Hi, darling.
01:19I see you, have a seat.
01:21Hiya.
01:22Good morning.
01:23She was Oscar-nominated for her role in Little Women, and has since become one of Hollywood's hottest properties, starring
01:30in Midsommar, the Dune films, and as Marvel's Black Widow.
01:33Now, she's bringing to the screen Steinbeck's classic, East of Eaton, please welcome, Florence Pugh!
01:41Oh!
01:44Oh!
01:45Yeah, I've seen that scene!
01:47Very good, I like that!
01:49Thank you!
01:49Pretty proud now.
01:50Wow!
01:53And in Top Gun, this Hollywood icon felt the need for speed, in A Few Good Men, he handled the
01:59truth, and in Jerry Maguire, he had us at hello.
02:02After a career spanning over 40 years, he is still the biggest movie star in the world.
02:08Now unrecognisable in the biting new satire, Digger, it is Mr. Tom Cruise!
02:16CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:19Welcome back!
02:21Let's have a moment.
02:23CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:26Hello, ma.
02:40We all feel like competition winners.
02:43We got to meet Tom Cruise!
02:46Actually, no, Florence, you met Tom, was it yesterday you met Tom?
02:49Just yesterday.
02:50OK.
02:51In the corridor.
02:52Lovely.
02:52Wonderful.
02:53We were promoting, she's got her movie, he used to be, and I went up and said hello, she was
02:57in the middle of interviews.
02:58I left my interviews, they were like, where'd he go?
03:00It was quite the, like, caffeine boost, actually, meeting in the corridor.
03:03I was like, oh, my God.
03:05I'm not going to talk about my show now.
03:06And actually, oh, my God, I was doing interviews with Mike Feist, who's also in the show, and after each
03:12interview, we'd both look at each other and be like, are you still, are you still thinking about Tom Cruise?
03:16LAUGHTER
03:18That was very nice.
03:19And did you get to thank Tom?
03:22Because Tom has kind of influenced you in a way.
03:24Yeah.
03:24I mean, it was, there was a lot of people standing around, and all I kind of was, like, jittering,
03:28was like, you're my hero.
03:31But, yeah, no, you hugely inspired me and influenced me to just, like, push myself further in all of the
03:36stunts that I do.
03:37And what an amazing thing that we all get to witness.
03:40Like, this man does it, and makes movies so much better for it, it's so cool.
03:45Because here's the thing, so, Tom, you went to the top, you went to the top of the highest building
03:50in the world.
03:50We've got a picture of you.
03:51Yes.
03:51There you are, sitting on the top of that building.
03:53No shoes, very casual.
03:55LAUGHTER
03:57But here's the thing, I don't know if you know this, Florence has jumped off the second highest building in
04:03the world.
04:03Yeah.
04:03I know that, I see.
04:04Yeah.
04:04Well, you took the first, the highest ones.
04:06Here you are, this is Florence, that is it.
04:11Oh, wow.
04:12I saw this, Florence.
04:13And three, two, one, go!
04:16There she goes.
04:17Oh!
04:19Beautiful.
04:20Beautiful.
04:20You broke a record with that, didn't you?
04:22Beautiful.
04:23Beautiful.
04:26Beautiful.
04:26Beautiful.
04:26Isn't it Guinness World Record or something?
04:28Yeah, I mean, yeah, technically, I haven't got the badge or anything.
04:33But, Florence, here's the thing, when you want to do those stunts, when you want to do those big stunts,
04:38is it because of Tom that you're able to do those stunts?
04:40Oh, no, I was, they 100% did not want me to do that at all.
04:43And at some point during the shooting schedule, I, like, bound up to Jake and I was like, yeah, so
04:48this jump, we should probably discuss it, it's only like a month out.
04:51And he was like, we're not going to make you jump off the second tallest building in the world.
04:55And I was like, why?
04:57And he was like, because we can't ensure that, like, you're our lead actress.
05:00And I was like, but Tom does it!
05:03And it really was like, I used that again and again and again and again.
05:08And it worked!
05:10Now, talking, talking of stunts, John Bishop, I cannot help but notice, you, you, you have an injury.
05:19He's so competitive.
05:20What happened?
05:21I was riding my motorbike off a mountain and the parachute didn't happen.
05:27It can happen.
05:33It's actually, it's nearly as good.
05:35I was riding my motorbike with, er, with Tim Peake.
05:39I don't even know Tim Peake, he's, he's our astronaut.
05:41Yeah, yeah.
05:42So, so, I was, er, I was out riding a motorbike with Tim Peake, he was taking me off roads
05:47riding.
05:48And I basically made the mistake, went through a, a puddle and, er, I, I ended up, I ended up
05:55with me face in a bush.
05:56Which used to be the brilliant end to every story, but, and my foot was just caused under the bike.
06:04So, it was just a, a nasty twist.
06:05But it was so embarrassing.
06:06I mean, he came into me the restroom before and I was talking about when Mission Impossible, you broke your
06:12leg and he went, yeah, I didn't wear one of them.
06:15That's what I said.
06:16I didn't say it like that, I said I was trying to help you.
06:20Trying to inspire you.
06:21Trying to make you feel better.
06:23Yeah.
06:23I finished the movie running across, but if you want to wear that, you will.
06:28But did you break your ankle?
06:29Yeah, it's broken.
06:30Oh, it is broken, okay.
06:31Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:32Three weeks ago, so it's taking sides.
06:34Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:35Yeah, listen, if I was getting a hundred million dollars for the film, I'd run across the bridge.
06:40I'd run it for free.
06:41I'd run it for free.
06:44Now, we know, we know that Lolly out of Hope knows Tom Cruise because, of course, you're co-stars.
06:50Yes.
06:50You co-starred at Mission Impossible.
06:52Yeah, I was sort of lead and supporting them.
06:55Yeah.
06:56Your chemistry...
06:57You are...
06:57Yeah, your chemistry on screen together is palpable.
07:00I think we've got the clip.
07:01This is Lolly and Tom together in Mission Impossible Fallout.
07:06It's pretty good.
07:08Here we go.
07:09There's Tom.
07:10This is the famous scene.
07:15Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
07:18But wait.
07:20There she is!
07:27We did it.
07:28We did it.
07:29We did it.
07:31We did it.
07:33Are those your legs, Tom?
07:35Of course they're my legs.
07:37They are.
07:38Those are my legs.
07:38Now, that's when it happened.
07:41Mm-hmm.
07:42OK.
07:42I distracted Tom.
07:43Yeah.
07:44With my screen presence.
07:45Yes.
07:46I was looking at her.
07:47Where are you?
07:48Golders are broken.
07:48I know.
07:49Sorry.
07:50Sorry.
07:51I'm ready for it.
07:52Lolly was like...
07:53I was running and I could see her performance and it was so distracting.
07:57Yes.
07:57I hit this thing and it shattered my leg.
08:00Yeah, yeah.
08:00No, no.
08:01It was more...
08:02It was very elegant.
08:03No, it was actually.
08:04It was subtle.
08:04I was like that.
08:05Lolly.
08:06Yeah, yeah.
08:07Boom.
08:07Then came the wall.
08:08I'm sorry.
08:09No, I know.
08:09That's why I'm here, too.
08:10I know.
08:11Actually, joking aside, did you meet?
08:14We met very briefly.
08:15I don't know if you'd remember.
08:16Yeah, I do.
08:16Yeah.
08:16We were in a lift.
08:18Yep.
08:18In the hospital.
08:22An air ambulance.
08:27And the hair and makeup person said,
08:29Tom, doesn't her hair look great?
08:30And you said, it looks great.
08:32I know.
08:32It distracted me.
08:33And you remember that?
08:33It distracted me.
08:35You distracted me.
08:36Yeah.
08:37But I say, also, congratulations on everything.
08:39Thank you so much.
08:41Yeah.
08:42Women at gas.
08:42Yeah.
08:43Women at gas.
08:44Beautiful.
08:45Very, truly, truly beautiful.
08:49And forever, we are forever connected from that moment.
08:52Exactly.
08:52Your performance, my broken foot.
08:55Yeah.
08:55Yeah.
08:56And as we move on, because Tom Cruise brings us a very different movie tonight.
09:01It is called Digger.
09:02It's in cinemas from next Friday, October the 2nd.
09:06And I've been lucky enough to see it.
09:08It is an amazing film.
09:11It's such a special film.
09:12God, you're good in it.
09:14Exactly.
09:14So, you play Digger.
09:16Yes.
09:16So, tell us about Digger.
09:18Digger.
09:18Whatever you can tell us about the movie.
09:19Okay.
09:20I'd just say, well, he's outrageous.
09:22He's unpredictable.
09:23He says things that I guess some people might think and never say.
09:28Some people, they go, I never thought to say that.
09:31Please don't say that.
09:32I can't even believe he said that.
09:33He is an outrageous character.
09:36He's this crazy billionaire who makes a horrible mistake and almost
09:43destroys the world as we know it.
09:45Yeah.
09:46So, it's just this timeless story about power, greed, ego framed in a
09:51very timely manner by Alejandro Iñárritu.
09:55He's a brilliant filmmaker.
09:57I've always wanted to work with him.
09:58And it's, well, anyway.
09:59Yeah, he's outrageous.
10:00It's great.
10:01He's outrageous.
10:02I have like this ten-minute monologue.
10:04It's all one take.
10:05It's just one shot.
10:07Wow.
10:07Which is...
10:08One shot is so fun.
10:09As an actor, you're like going, oh, please.
10:11Yeah, yeah.
10:14Please.
10:15It's funny you're doing that because we're about to watch that clip.
10:17Oh, is that right?
10:17Oh, yeah.
10:18We're about to watch a clip from the start of the movie.
10:20This is Digger on the phone getting the first inkling of the coming crisis.
10:33I feel like it's been a while since we've seen you do like a big acting part like this.
10:42Was it lovely to get back to?
10:43Oh, my gosh.
10:43Look, I've never read a movie like this.
10:47I've never seen a character like this in film.
10:51I've never read it.
10:52I mean, any actor, it's like one of these moments you're just going, I've never seen it in film before.
10:56You would love it.
10:57Oh, my God.
10:57You guys would love to play this character.
11:00I think you'd like it too.
11:04I've got to talk about the prosthetics.
11:05The prosthetics, so is any of it you?
11:12I just want to tell you.
11:13That's mean.
11:14No, no.
11:14I just wondered.
11:15No, I just wanted to, let me make it clear.
11:17None of it's me.
11:19I mean, none of it.
11:22There's a shot that you might not want to see.
11:24It's not me.
11:26But I love, I love the-
11:27I'm going to tell you it's-
11:28But this is, this is so Tom Cruise.
11:30So we've had people on the show, you know, and they come on, they talk about prosthetics,
11:33and they moan, it was, you know, six hours, it was eight hours, da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
11:37So that happened to you and went, no, we can improve this.
11:40So, how did you Tom Cruise-ify the prosthetics?
11:43Okay, I'll tell you quickly.
11:45So, we're doing, like, there's 24 hours in the day.
11:47You all know what this is like.
11:48You go into prosthetics, it's six hours.
11:50I'm going, okay, that's 18 hours.
11:52We shoot for 12 hours.
11:54That's down to what?
11:56What's my state?
11:57Six hours.
11:58Okay, two hours to take it off, now that's four hours.
12:00Okay, plus I have other jobs.
12:01I'm shooting Mission Impossible while I'm shooting this.
12:04Oh, wow.
12:04So, and it's also, I like being on set.
12:06You know, I want to be with everyone.
12:08You know, you've worked with me, you know.
12:10Yeah, he's always that.
12:11Like, hang on.
12:13It's all up and down.
12:14You can't get rid of him.
12:16He'll be in the hair and make-up.
12:17Doing the catering.
12:18Doing the facilities.
12:20Outside the window when you're trying to act.
12:23Outside you're trying to act that someone is bothering.
12:28And basically, so I, there were like six hours.
12:30I said, so, I like looking at it.
12:32So what I did was, is I said, listen, we're going to get it down to an hour.
12:36These are brilliant makeup artists, by the way.
12:39And they all just kind of looked at me.
12:40I was like, no, we can do it.
12:41They're like, I don't think so.
12:41I said, well, first of all, let's say maybe.
12:44Let's agree to maybe.
12:45Because if you say you're not going to do it, you're not going to do it.
12:47So what I did was, I got a stopwatch.
12:50And we just, I put on each part every day, how they did it faster and faster.
12:56So eventually, and they kind of practiced behind, you know, and it became a ballet, how they worked.
13:01Everything was in place.
13:03And we got into under an hour without compromising the quality of the film.
13:07And they're exceptional makeup artists.
13:09Wow.
13:09I love the idea of trying to do your work while Tom Cruise has a stopwatch.
13:15I know.
13:16I had someone else hold a stopwatch.
13:18Oh, OK.
13:18That'd be a little intimidating.
13:20But then they started getting into it.
13:21You know, I was like, come on, Formula One.
13:23Have you seen NASCAR?
13:24You know?
13:25Yes.
13:25That's why I said Formula One, NASCAR.
13:27It's like, we can do this.
13:28Yeah.
13:28We can do this.
13:29Let's go.
13:29And so they basically got it down.
13:31Down to that type.
13:32Yeah.
13:32Because we always remember you as Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder.
13:35Oh, so funny.
13:36That was amazing.
13:37Yeah.
13:37This, I mean, that is amazing.
13:39So fun.
13:42Is it true you still have those arms?
13:46Absolutely.
13:48I have them like this.
13:49Because Ben and I have known Ben forever.
13:51I was like, look, man, I want to play this character.
13:53I've got to have fat hands and I'm going to dance.
13:55So look at that.
13:56It's just, you know.
13:57Oh, brilliant.
13:58That dance and I have the hands.
14:00The dance is the best bit.
14:01Yeah, you have the hands.
14:02So he was like, what do you mean?
14:03What are you talking about?
14:04I said, let me just do it for you.
14:05Let me just do it for you.
14:06Because what's the deal with the fat hands?
14:08I said, no, I know.
14:09He said, I've got to have fat hands and, you know, and I've got to, you know.
14:19So the actors on Digger, they would say, go ahead, do the dance.
14:24They do stuff like I'm always taking, I'm singing lessons and dance lessons and learning
14:28different forms of dance and music all the time.
14:30I'm always training in something, always.
14:32You know, whether it's motorcycles or cars, planes, jets, parachutes, you know.
14:37But I like doing that.
14:38And then you just add it to different characters and studying movement and playing around.
14:42You know.
14:43That's what we do.
14:44I don't...
14:44Yeah.
14:47We're the same.
14:48We're the same.
14:48Yeah.
14:50Lottie's got a dance class after this.
14:53We'll do it together.
14:54Let's go together.
14:55You can see Tom Cruise as Digger in cinemas and selected IMAX theatres from next Friday.
15:01Tom Cruise, everybody.
15:02Yeah.
15:03Graham.
15:04You know that, Graham.
15:05Woo!
15:08I love the suit, Graham.
15:09He is.
15:10Oh, thank you very much.
15:15Thanks for asking, Tom.
15:16That was very nice.
15:17Very nice.
15:21Florence Pugh.
15:22Florence Pugh is returning to our...
15:24The suit, please.
15:25Come on.
15:26It does.
15:29East of Eden.
15:31This is a lavish new seven-part adaptation of the classic John Steinbeck novel.
15:36It premieres globally on Netflix next Thursday.
15:40So, East of Eden, big classic novel.
15:43Some people may not have read it.
15:46So, tell us about Cathy and her role in the story.
15:50Yeah.
15:50So, Zoe Kazan has written her adaption of East of Eden.
15:54And it's a seven-episode series, sweeping epic.
15:59And I play Cathy Ames, who is also epic in every way.
16:06Yeah.
16:06And it's just been the most, like, amazing journey making it.
16:09We've been making it for about six years now.
16:11I've been on it for six years.
16:12Really?
16:13Yeah.
16:13Wow.
16:14Yeah.
16:14And we had our first Zoom in the second week of Covid lockdown.
16:19And we both just, like, Zoe and I just fell in love with each other.
16:21And she asked me to make this with her and to create this with her.
16:25So, it's like we're releasing our baby.
16:28Wow.
16:28We feel very...
16:28Well, I feel very, very protective of it.
16:31I'm really excited.
16:32And Cathy is such a great part.
16:35And it must be amazing to play someone like that over, kind of, seven episodes.
16:41In decades.
16:41And I just wondered, as an actor, do you keep the whole thing in your head?
16:44Or do you go, in this episode, I'm telling this story?
16:47That's a good question.
16:50You must have done this before.
16:52I just thought of that one, Tom.
16:53It's not on the card.
16:54I just thought of it.
17:01I'm inspired.
17:02You're making me better, Tom.
17:03You are making me better.
17:06Sorry, Florence.
17:07No, I didn't genuinely ask that question.
17:08No, it's all right.
17:09I...
17:10It's funny.
17:11I think probably a bit of both.
17:12Because with episodes, you want to start and end in the right place.
17:15And you obviously want to excite people and make sure that they watch the next episode.
17:20But I think because I play a character that goes across a few decades and we really see her age,
17:26that was probably the biggest, I guess, thrill.
17:31Was that I really got to figure out who this lady was and I got to age with her and
17:34I got to figure out what she sounded like when she was older and how she looks and what her
17:38wardrobe was.
17:39Yeah.
17:40So, yeah, it was amazing, truly.
17:42And we shot in New Zealand for six months and just everything was so full.
17:47It was so...
17:48The shooting schedule was epic.
17:50The people that we shot with were epic.
17:53And we were in these amazing landscapes in New Zealand where you'd just open your eyes out of a car
17:58window and be like,
17:59Whoa!
18:00That's Lord of the Rings!
18:02But, yeah, no, brilliant time.
18:04And our clip is you as Cathy having an intimate conversation with your husband Adam, played by Christopher Abbott.
18:11Here we go.
18:13Wow.
18:17Good drama.
18:18Good drama.
18:21And this is another kind of American classic.
18:24I mean, people study this book and you did Little Women, now this.
18:27I mean, American audiences just totally accept that you are American.
18:32They think that I fully don't...
18:35Like, they think I'm American.
18:36And whenever I speak in interviews, they're like,
18:37Oh, stop doing the British accent!
18:41Me!
18:43But you've always been quite...
18:44That's a really good British accent.
18:46It is good.
18:47It's definitely American.
18:50Did you see my typing, though, there?
18:52I need some...
18:54A little bit too up and down.
18:55Sorry, I need more typing.
18:56Work on it.
18:57Yeah, sorry.
18:58But actually, you've always been quite bold with your accent choices.
19:00Was it your very first acting role you decided to do that?
19:02Yes.
19:03My very first acting role was to be Pregnant Mary in the Nativity play
19:07and I was like, this isn't interesting enough.
19:10I was six years old.
19:11How old?
19:12Six.
19:13Six.
19:14And I went into the first rehearsal and I was like,
19:16she's going to be from Grimsby.
19:19She's going to have a northern accent.
19:21Well, my grandparents are from Grimsby, so I just obviously copied them.
19:24But, yeah.
19:26Bizarre.
19:26And were you allowed to keep the Grimsby accent?
19:28Yeah, well, the script was actually really...
19:30It was really well written, so...
19:32She came on stage and she was aching about her back
19:35and her, like, swollen legs, so I was like,
19:37oh, my back!
19:40Six.
19:40I just want to imagine that, six, with a pregnant bum.
19:43Oh, I'd like to see that.
19:45I'd like to see a video of that.
19:47I'd love to see that.
19:49And don't you...
19:51Have you done an American accent in something or not?
19:53No, no.
19:53No.
19:54The problem with having this accent is that, like,
19:57I don't...
19:58You...
19:58This is what intrigues me with people who play with their own voice.
20:02In my head, I don't sound like I sound.
20:06Really?
20:06Do you know what I mean?
20:07How do you sound?
20:08Well, like Sean Connery.
20:10Yeah, I know.
20:11I like Sean Connery.
20:12I like Sean.
20:14And it's funny because, like,
20:16I never really considered it throughout my career
20:19it's been a bonus sounding like this, obviously,
20:21and it's where I'm from and stuff.
20:23But I've been doing some gigs in America
20:26and I was doing this comedy club in New York
20:28that I go to the Comedy Cellar
20:30and I go back there all the time and I absolutely love it.
20:33But I've become that comfortable with it.
20:35And I forgot...
20:36I don't tell people where I'm from.
20:38And I didn't realise that if I don't say where I'm from
20:40and the host doesn't say where I'm from,
20:43the audience have to work it out
20:45and they've not heard this noise before.
20:47And I was there, I was there in January
20:50and I come off stage and this guy stopped me
20:53and he could not have looked more American.
20:55He was like, you know, baseball cap, beard,
20:58check shirt, fat guy.
21:00Look...
21:01LAUGHTER
21:03Wow.
21:04You know what I mean?
21:04Welcome to Britain, Tom.
21:06LAUGHTER
21:07He looked like he drove an ice truck and a documentary or something.
21:10And I'd been on stage not mentioning where I'm from
21:13and he'd obviously worked it out for himself
21:15because as I'm coming through the crowd,
21:16he just grabbed me by the arm, he said,
21:18Hey, buddy, tell you guys, Selenski, we've got his back.
21:23LAUGHTER
21:25APPLAUSE
21:30That's obviously what I sound like to every American.
21:33LAUGHTER
21:33How do you sound like here?
21:35Well, here I just sound like a Scouser,
21:37I sound like I'm from Liverpool.
21:38And the thing is, with being from Liverpool,
21:40it's like anything, like you've got an American accent
21:43but it'd be hard for us to place it.
21:45When you pick an American accent,
21:46you can probably kind of regionalise it.
21:49In England, like, I sound different
21:52than people who live five miles away.
21:54LAUGHTER
21:55And that's what...
21:56Great accent.
21:57I've got to tell you.
21:58The accent in Digger, it seems really specific.
22:01Yeah.
22:01It's just, you know, when you're finding language and accents
22:05and when you see the movie, it has a rhythm and a language,
22:07so you're working on something that will deliver the tone.
22:12So I was just playing around with the accent
22:14that would deliver the tone and be able to...
22:16As I'm going through the rhythm,
22:17it's going to make it comedic and dramatic.
22:19So we're just kind of...
22:20And that's when you just kind of find out
22:22that it's right in there.
22:23Just bang, bang, bang!
22:24It just totally makes the character every time.
22:27Changing...
22:27Finding the accent just fills in all the gaps.
22:31Because, Lolly, you like doing an American accent.
22:34In fact, you...
22:35I love it.
22:36LAUGHTER
22:38But you've done that.
22:40That was perfect.
22:41That was perfect.
22:44You've done American TV shows, but they won't let you be American.
22:47Yeah, quite often I audition in an American accent
22:49and they say, just stick to the British accent.
22:52Just carry on with what you're doing.
22:54But in Omerry, I get to do an American accent, obviously, because...
22:56Yes.
22:57Well, we can all hear your American accent in your latest role.
23:02Because, good news, everybody, Lolly Adafope is making her West End debut!
23:06Yes!
23:07CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
23:09Finally.
23:11Lolly will be playing Mary Todd Lincoln in Omerry,
23:16opening this Monday, the 28th of September,
23:18at the Trafalgar Theatre in London.
23:20I love this place.
23:22I'm so glad you're here.
23:23Thank you so much.
23:24Omerry, it's been a huge hit in America.
23:26Huge hit here.
23:27But some people won't have seen it.
23:29Yes.
23:29So, how do you describe...
23:31Because a play doesn't quite do it justice.
23:34How do you describe Omerry to people?
23:36It's kind of...
23:37It's an experience.
23:39It's an 80-minute wild ride from start to finish
23:43about Mary Todd Lincoln, who is...
23:47It's not historically accurate, of course,
23:49but she is a kind of alcoholic, aspiring cabaret star,
23:55quite a sort of feral, intense woman.
23:58So, perfect for me.
24:00LAUGHTER
24:01I see a lot of myself in her.
24:03Yeah.
24:04But also, I think, even if you say, oh, it's a comedy,
24:07people have a certain expectation.
24:09But we should say, like, this is joke heavy.
24:12Yes.
24:12It kind of reminds me of The Simpsons sometimes.
24:14It's kind of like joke, joke, joke.
24:15Yeah.
24:16Kind of fun for all the family, I would say.
24:17Well, not all the family, but...
24:18No.
24:18Yeah.
24:19No.
24:19Like, I thought it was almost like a family guy sketch
24:22or something.
24:23Yes.
24:23Yeah, yeah, but better.
24:24Yeah, but, yeah.
24:26LAUGHTER
24:28And because Omerry has had different casts over the years,
24:32have you seen other people play it?
24:34Yes, I saw Cole in New York.
24:37I love Cole.
24:37Yeah.
24:38That was incredible.
24:39And I saw Mason Alexander Park, who was also incredible,
24:42in London.
24:43So it's good to have seen the play before you do the play.
24:45That's quite a fun sort of hint at what you're going to have to do.
24:49Which is very physically active.
24:51But when you see someone and they get a big laugh
24:53doing something a certain way, do you think,
24:54I'll just do that?
24:56No.
24:56Or do you kind of think, no, I'm going to make it my own?
24:58Yeah, I'm going to change it.
24:59Yeah, yeah.
25:00I'm going to give it a spin.
25:01I'll stop them laughing.
25:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:04LAUGHTER
25:05I'll stop them laughing.
25:06Yeah, yeah.
25:12Would you ever go back?
25:13Would you ever go...
25:14You know, I love...
25:14You know, I love theatre, maybe one day,
25:17but I love...
25:18I love going to theatre.
25:19I love...
25:20I really respect this art form and what you do.
25:22It's incredible.
25:23That's a big no, I think.
25:25LAUGHTER
25:26But in...
25:27But I'm interested, you talk about learning things,
25:29because I was struck...
25:31Because, you know, Digger talks...
25:33A lot.
25:34A lot, I know.
25:35There's that ten-minute monologue.
25:37Yeah.
25:37But, like, it was an extraordinary amount to learn.
25:39You know, because as a film actor,
25:41you don't normally have to learn pages and pages of dialogue.
25:45A lot of films I make are pages and pages.
25:48It's...
25:48You look at Rain Man, you look at Jerry Maguire,
25:51or Risky Business, or Collateral,
25:53the language of the movies and the rhythm of the film.
25:56So, it's a part of it.
25:58And so, I don't find learning lines hard or anything.
26:01I...
26:01It's not like you sit down and learn the lines.
26:04You all know this.
26:04We're...
26:05We're finding our voices, you know,
26:07as we're writing, as we're doing it.
26:08I...
26:09I like absorbing everyone's...
26:11The ideas, and then you just...
26:13It's a beautiful exploration.
26:15So, learning the lines is the easiest thing.
26:18It's actually...
26:19It's like, okay, it's kind of like...
26:20It's just mechanical.
26:21But it really is the...
26:23The beauty of finding the rhythm.
26:25Yeah, yeah.
26:25You know that and what you do.
26:27It's finding that rhythm.
26:28Yeah, totally.
26:29And that audience where you're going,
26:30where...
26:32Where...
26:32Where...
26:32Where are they leaning in?
26:33Where is it?
26:34Where's that natural rhythm
26:35that you're going to find your own creativity?
26:37Yeah, yeah.
26:38Playing off their energy.
26:39Yeah.
26:39Yeah.
26:39And your voice within it.
26:40It's like you're looking at other actors,
26:41and I know what you mean.
26:42It's like, that's their create,
26:43and how they're going to play the scene,
26:45and you have your own things that interest you
26:47or excite you about playing something
26:49or exploring it.
26:50Totally.
26:50Yeah.
26:51And are you looking forward to, like,
26:52being back in front of a live audience again, Lolly?
26:55Yes, I am.
26:56Yeah.
26:56It's...
26:56It's daunting, of course,
26:58because you have to get it right first time.
26:59What's that?
27:00You can't do another take.
27:01Um, apparently.
27:03Yeah.
27:04Um...
27:04But...
27:05But you get another night.
27:06Yeah, you get 80 nights.
27:08Somewhere in there.
27:09Yeah.
27:10I'll get it right once.
27:11Somewhere in there.
27:12You know?
27:13Yeah.
27:13I see my friends on stage,
27:15they're like, that was a...
27:15I was like, brilliant performance.
27:17Oh, shit.
27:18This is mine, I'm like,
27:20I don't know what you're talking about.
27:21Yeah, you make it work.
27:22Well, Lolly will be knocking it out of the park in O'Meary
27:25this Monday at the Trafalgar Theatre.
27:27And a reminder,
27:28you can see Florence in the East of Eden
27:30on Netflix from next Thursday.
27:32Meanwhile, on Saturday night,
27:34John Bishop is hosting
27:36a brand new Cristo Spectacular.
27:39It is called Wisdom of the Crowd.
27:43It's on BBC One and iPlayer straight after Strictly.
27:46And this is exciting.
27:47It's a big, big game show.
27:48It's the same people who did 1% Club,
27:51is that right?
27:51Yeah.
27:51So this is the hard bit, John.
27:53Tell us, how does it work?
27:56So it's based on a scientific theory
27:58that if you ask enough people a question
28:01and then get the average of their answers,
28:03that average will be better than any individual answer.
28:07So it's called the Wisdom of the Crowd
28:10because the crowd know more than an individual.
28:13So that's what it's based on.
28:15And is that experiment based on a certain number of people?
28:18Or how...
28:19Yeah, there's a tipping point.
28:20So all the questions have already been asked of 1,800 people.
28:24But we've got an audience of 200.
28:26And that audience stay with us for the whole series.
28:29Right.
28:30So basically the individual who comes out as the contestant
28:33is competing against their answers
28:35plus what's already in the system.
28:37So they're trying to compete against 2,000 people.
28:40Oh, so there's a right answer and then it's...
28:43Yeah.
28:44And all of these questions are ridiculous.
28:46Like, no-one knows the answer.
28:48It would be like, you know...
28:49I'd build a spaceship.
28:50Yeah, it'd be on average,
28:52how long does it take a woman in the UK
28:53to get ready to go out?
28:57Wow.
28:57Great question.
28:58Do you know the answer?
28:59Don't tell us, don't tell us.
29:13Ladies, hello.
29:16So the questions that you don't know the answer to,
29:19but what's good about it, it's Saturday night.
29:22Yeah.
29:22It's after Strictly.
29:23It's for fun.
29:24And so everyone can have a stab at the answer.
29:26Give us another question.
29:27Oh, I'll tell you what.
29:29I'll show a clip.
29:30I'll show a clip.
29:30And there's a question in the clip.
29:32OK.
29:32Here is a clip from the wisdom of the crowd.
29:35Good question here.
29:36Here we go.
29:38So 1,023.
29:40Lolly, how many showers does the average person take
29:44in a year in the UK?
29:47460.
29:48Wow.
29:49OK.
29:50Florence?
29:50All right.
29:51I'm trying to think about me.
29:52OK.
29:54I'm sweating.
29:57OK.
29:58OK.
29:59OK.
30:00OK.
30:01I'm going to say 340.
30:05OK.
30:07Do you know the answer?
30:08I've got the answer on it.
30:10Oh, OK.
30:10Thank God for that.
30:11I've got the answer on it.
30:13You have another go.
30:14Eh.
30:15Eh.
30:15Well, hang on.
30:16So, see, but people are bad.
30:18People are bad too.
30:20People are bad too.
30:20People are bad too.
30:20So I think it will be under 300.
30:24What did you say?
30:26Under?
30:26No, you can't.
30:27I said it already.
30:28You said 240.
30:29You said 240.
30:30I said 340.
30:31What did you say?
30:32340.
30:33Oh, 340.
30:33OK.
30:34Because people are bad.
30:35How long is this bit in the show?
30:37Hold it.
30:38Hold it.
30:39Hold it.
30:40One second.
30:40One second.
30:41Are we talking bad or are we talking showers?
30:43Showers.
30:43Oh, you're right.
30:45OK.
30:46I combined.
30:47Interesting.
30:47What would you say if it was just showers?
30:49If it was just showers, I would say, uh, 140.
30:53OK.
30:54Oh, I'd say more than 250.
30:55250, I'm saying.
30:56You say 250.
30:57A bath.
30:58OK.
30:58So are you not showering every day?
31:00No, I'm not...
31:01LAUGHTER
31:02Are you washing your baths every day?
31:05Put them back?
31:07No.
31:08He's talking about...
31:09Baths.
31:09There's baths and there's showers.
31:11You know what I'm talking about.
31:12He's talking about...
31:12I like...
31:14He's different than people...
31:16We're talking baths and showers.
31:17He's talking about smelly British people.
31:20I taste like I have to...
31:20He's allowed us that we stink and he's reflecting that in his answer.
31:25I say...
31:25OK.
31:26Maybe two...
31:27No.
31:29I shower.
31:29People take a lot of baths in this country.
31:32They take a lot of baths.
31:33It's getting heated!
31:36Quickly, tell us the answer.
31:37This is the example of what this show's about.
31:39All over this country, there's people on the couches going,
31:42How many baths do you see me?
31:45The answer is actually 275.
31:48Wow.
31:49Wow.
31:50You're ready to go, Jeffy.
31:52Yeah, yeah.
31:53Not bad.
31:55What did you say?
31:56I got it way wrong.
31:58What did you lose?
31:59Oh, you were 500.
32:00I said 460.
32:01460.
32:02I was thinking of two showers a day.
32:03I was thinking...
32:05I'd take several showers a day.
32:06Yeah, it doesn't sound like it.
32:07It is.
32:09It does not sound like it at all.
32:11I'm telling you, I shouldn't be.
32:12I assume that is a fat suit.
32:14Anyway, we...
32:14So we get the idea...
32:16Don't try and incorporate his way out of it.
32:20We should also say you are heading back on tour.
32:23I am.
32:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
32:25I'll go back on tour.
32:27Yay!
32:27Next, April.
32:28April, mate.
32:29April 29th.
32:31Let's go.
32:32Fits off in Leeds.
32:34Nice.
32:35We should also very quickly go back to the cinema,
32:37because Lolly, you have a film on the way.
32:39Halloween, right?
32:40Yes.
32:41October 23rd, it comes out.
32:43Is...
32:44Ghosts, The Possession of Buttonhouse.
32:45Wow!
32:47Fantastic, Lolly.
32:49Thank you very much.
32:50Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
32:52And Florence Pugh, wow.
32:54You are all over...
32:56Are they calling it Doomsday?
32:58Yeah, you're going to be sick of me.
33:00Wow.
33:00No, because you're in both of them.
33:01So Doomsday is...
33:03Dune is opening on the same day as the new Avenger Doomsday.
33:08Yeah.
33:08And you're in both of them.
33:09I'm in both of them, yeah.
33:11That's a lot of promo.
33:13Yeah.
33:14That is good.
33:16I'll be having a lot of showers.
33:18Yes, that's true.
33:19Yes, that's true.
33:20Yes, that's true.
33:21And, er, I've got to mention, is Days of Thunder 2 that 2 next big one?
33:25Yeah, I've been prepping it.
33:25Yeah, I've been prepping it.
33:26Have you started filming yet?
33:27No.
33:27No, we haven't.
33:28Oh, race cars.
33:29I know, can't wait.
33:30Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:32Yeah, no, it's fine Tom.
33:34Yeah, you make films about it, Tom.
33:36Race cars, no problems.
33:37We've driven cars.
33:39Haven't been me and you, Tom, we've driven cars.
33:40Yeah, good cars.
33:42I can't wait.
33:42Oh, you were both in Top Gear together?
33:44Yeah, me knows.
33:45We know.
33:45Yeah, I know.
33:47Who beat who?
33:48I don't want to talk about it.
33:50I mean, it sums to me if you start, you know what I mean?
33:53You did well, you did well.
33:53Yeah, I did well.
33:54Yeah, you did.
33:55You did better than me.
33:56That was good.
33:56Yeah, okay.
33:57Not head to head.
33:59You did well.
34:00Go ahead.
34:01Enjoy it, John.
34:03Yeah.
34:03Enjoy it.
34:04You have to show up with a broken ankle.
34:07Okay.
34:08It's like, I got it.
34:09You have a broken ankle.
34:10I understand it.
34:11Well, when will it be out?
34:1328 or something?
34:14Yeah, 28.
34:1528.
34:1628.
34:1628.
34:17We look forward to that.
34:18All your products.
34:20Thank you for having me.
34:21Well, no, it's not over yet, Tom.
34:22I know.
34:23There's loads to go, yeah.
34:24Oh, okay.
34:24We've got a tight hour to fill.
34:28You want to nip off and have a shower and come back?
34:30Yeah, right.
34:33I think...
34:36I think Florence might do that right now.
34:39Clearly with my numbers.
34:40Clearly with her numbers.
34:41She's going to take a shower.
34:42We'll wait for her.
34:43It's time for music.
34:45Since releasing her debut album, our version of events,
34:4715 years ago, this Scottish singer has won four Brits,
34:52two Everett Avellos and three MOBO awards.
34:54Here performing the breakout hit from that album,
34:57Read All About It.
34:58It's Emily Sanday.
35:00Emily Sanday, what a great job.
35:03And thank you very much to Nick Brown on the keyboards.
35:07Beautiful job.
35:08Come on over, Emily.
35:12Thank you so much.
35:33So great to hear that again from the breakout album, our version of events.
35:39It's been re-released.
35:40Here it is.
35:41Yes.
35:42The beautiful special edition after 15 years.
35:45And you're doing a special tour to celebrate the 15 years of this album.
35:48Yeah.
35:48Anniversary tour starting February next year.
35:51Wow.
35:51Actually, January now.
35:52We've added five extra dates.
35:54Well, no.
35:54I saw that you did all the extra dates.
35:55That's amazing that it's going so well.
35:57I know.
35:58It's going to be a really...
35:59I want it to be a thank you to the fans.
36:00You know, that album really changed my life.
36:02So I can't wait to get back out there.
36:04And it's one of those things where...
36:05Uh...
36:06Yes.
36:06Oh, my God.
36:08So...
36:10Tom...
36:11Tom is going to like this statistic.
36:13He'll like this statistic.
36:14So...
36:14Here's the thing.
36:14So, you know, you kind of think, oh, our version of events.
36:17I remember that album.
36:18Yeah, it was a big hit.
36:20I...
36:20I didn't realise this.
36:21So, it was number one for ten weeks, right?
36:26That's one thing.
36:27But it stayed in the top ten for 66 consecutive weeks.
36:32Wow.
36:32Breaking the record previously set by the Beatles.
36:35Wow.
36:35Oh, my God.
36:37Wow.
36:38Wow.
36:39Wow.
36:39That's amazing.
36:42Like...
36:42That's amazing.
36:44We were just saying how we remembered it being on the radio for ages.
36:47Yeah.
36:47I'm just loving it.
36:48Every time I go into a room, I'll be like, yes!
36:51After a while, people were with me to go away, but...
36:54I must tell you, that's not true.
36:55And we were all talking about it, like, to hear you sing this live,
36:58I mean, it was just very magical.
37:00Well, but it's brilliant as well.
37:02They go out and doing the album.
37:04Yeah.
37:04And what...
37:05What's Snow Patrol doing the same?
37:07And it's just a brilliant thing for the fans.
37:10Yeah.
37:10To do the album and all that.
37:11It's great.
37:12That's, like, the real thing that's left, you know,
37:14to be able to be there, present with the people that made this
37:16dream possible.
37:17And hopefully I get to perform some new material as well,
37:20and working on a new album.
37:21So it's going to be a big full circle.
37:23That's very good.
37:24Yeah.
37:24That's excellent.
37:25And what's it like?
37:26I wondered...
37:27I mean, I guess you haven't stopped singing these songs,
37:29but some of the songs on the album, you probably haven't sung that much
37:31in the last 15 years.
37:32Yeah, there's a few there that are going to be kind of new.
37:35Yeah.
37:35And what's it like for you coming back to those songs after that length of time?
37:39Um, nice.
37:41I mean, hopefully I've grown as a person, you know.
37:43I hope there's kind of been some lessons learnt.
37:46But it's, um, it's nice to kind of revisit them.
37:48And there's a song there for my parents, for my sisters,
37:51so I'm looking forward to picking them together again.
37:53Wow.
37:54It'll be just, as Tom was saying, just so great to hear you sing it live again.
37:58It's just really, really beautiful.
37:59Absolutely.
38:00And listen, good luck with the album...
38:01...the tour and the new material.
38:03Emily Sanday, everybody!
38:09That is nearly it for tonight for the time.
38:12Before we go, just time for our first visit to the world-famous Big Red Chair.
38:17Hello.
38:18Hi.
38:19Hi, what's your name?
38:19My name is Kerry.
38:21Kerry, hello.
38:22Hi.
38:22And what do you do, Kerry?
38:23I have an HRT homeowner placement clinic in Trinidad and Tobago.
38:27Okay, well done you.
38:28None of us saw that coming.
38:32And so you're just here on holidays?
38:34Uh, kind of.
38:35I'm trying to see if I want to live here or not.
38:36Okay.
38:37So for a while.
38:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
38:39I mean, we don't wash, but apart from that, it's lovely.
38:42Off you go with your story.
38:44So, a few years ago, I was doing an online course
38:47where I was learning to do all of the technology to put a course online.
38:52So, it was quite professional and we would have meetings every so often on Zoom.
38:57Um, you could take part in the meetings or you could just listen in.
39:00So, one of these meetings, I said, well, I don't really have anything to take part in,
39:04but I'd like to still listen to what's going on.
39:06Of course.
39:06Anyway, so, I said, let me take care of some other things at the same time.
39:11You know, like, maybe get some exercise done.
39:14So, I kind of put the phone down, um, not realising my camera was on.
39:19And I was squatting, kind of, with my rear end into the camera.
39:23No big deal.
39:24Fine.
39:25Then it's time for the shower.
39:26You know, the showers that you guys don't really take.
39:29Um, I put the phone onto my counter, um, in my bathroom.
39:34It's still pointing at me because I'm still listening to the meeting.
39:38No.
39:38And I've gotten undressed.
39:40No big deal.
39:41No big deal.
39:42Get into the shower where I happen to have a shelf, kind of chest high.
39:48It's there, and I'm completely naked, showering.
39:52And that's when somebody decided to say,
39:55I'm not sure Carrie knows, but she's been working out,
39:58then she got undressed, and now she's naked in the shower.
40:02So, I picked my phone up, pelted it across the room,
40:05and burst into tears.
40:07And somebody said to me,
40:09one day this will make a great story and you will laugh.
40:11So, they were right.
40:13And here you are.
40:14Here you are.
40:16Go, go.
40:18There you go.
40:19OK, that really is all we've got time for.
40:22And please say a huge thank you to all my guests.
40:23Emily Sande.
40:26John Bishop.
40:29Lolly Annapurve.
40:32Florence Pugh.
40:34And Mr. Tom Cruise.
40:40Join me next week with music from Blossoms,
40:42rapper and actor 50 Cent, actor Andrew Garfield.
40:45Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones.
40:47And the legendary Sylvester Stallone.
40:50I'll see you then.
40:50Good night, everybody.
40:51Bye-bye.
