👉🏽 Marie-Luise and Berlin’s Magnetic Levitation Train

From Potsdamer Platz, Marie-Louise and her younger brother Lars could see Gleisdreieck Underground Station. Just then, the magnetic levitation train was pulling into the station. It was operated by Berlin’s public transport authority, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).

“Come on, let’s take a ride!”

“Sure, Lars. Why not? I’ve never been on it before either.”

“And with our monthly travel passes, we can ride for free anyway.”

“Not for free, Lars – at no extra cost. We’ve already paid for our monthly passes in advance. So we can use the M-Bahn without paying anything extra.”

“Yeah, yeah, Marie,” Lars replied. “You always have to be so precise.”

“Precision and proper English—or, in our case, proper German—will earn you a lot of respect, Lars. Just you wait and see! Knowledge is power!”

“Knowing nothing doesn’t hurt either!” Lars shot back, and the siblings burst into laughter at their familiar sayings.

They rode the short stretch between Gleisdreieck and Kemperplatz many times, going back and forth. Since the M-Bahn was still operating on a trial basis, nobody bothered to check their monthly travel passes.

“I love the way the train glides along,” Lars said enthusiastically.

“And it’s so quiet, too. Well, I suppose that’s because it doesn’t have any wheels.” Marie was fascinated by the technology as well.

“There are wheels…” Lars corrected her, adding with a mischievous grin, “You always have to get your German right, Marie.”

They both laughed heartily as they left Gleisdreieck Underground Station.
