At first, everything was light and easy.
Jack loved this light. The low, dazzling afternoon sun over the sparkling sea of San Fernando City turned his skin golden and softened every worry, as if they had never truly existed.
Palms swayed lazily in the gentle breeze. The air was thick with salt, the scent of grilled fish, roasted corn, sunscreen, and rum. Exactly how he had imagined it while looking out at the winter in Illinois, deciding his life needed something new.
Jack was forty-eight, divorced, with two grown children and enough money from stock trading to never have to set an alarm again. His first time in the Philippines. Hidden gem. Diving vacation.
He felt young again.
At the beach bar, he met Jaclyn.
