00:00Hello friends, this is Krasmoto Channel. For several years now, I've been coming across this little device on the internet.
00:07And I never got around to figuring out what kind of symbiosis this is. A downhill bike combined with a
00:14Honda engine.
00:15Let me introduce you to Motoped's machine.
00:17And the most talked about model in the entire lineup, the Motoped Survival Bike, was introduced to the public in
00:252015.
00:25Let's try to figure out what, how, and why. Enjoy watching.
00:51In fact, Motoped is a bicycle with a small engine. And conceptually, it doesn't bring anything radically new to the
00:58motorcycle world.
00:59To understand the concept of the Motoped, it's necessary to provide a bit of historical context.
01:06At the turn of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the motorcycle was born, the vast majority of
01:12their designs were based on a bicycle chassis with a small engine installed.
01:17These were lightweight and rather primitive designs.
01:20The rear wheel was still driven by pedals.
01:23So in those days, when fuel stations were as rare even in progressive countries as charging stations for electric cars,
01:31are now in Mongolia,
01:33you still had the option to get to a gas station or home on your motorized bicycle using muscle power.
01:40Not the perfect option, of course, but better than pushing that cart on foot.
01:44By the way, here's an interesting fact. The first transcontinental motorcycle journey took place in 1903.
01:51And yes, it happened in the United States.
01:54George Adams.
01:56Wyman crossed the North American continent from San Francisco to New York,
02:00covering 6,100 kilometers in 51 days on a California Motor Company motorcycle with a 200cc four-stroke engine.
02:09In fact, it was more of a motorized bicycle, and out of the entire distance, the adventurer covered 240 kilometers
02:16by pedaling.
02:17And all because the fuel in the motorcycle's tank had the unpleasant habit of running out, while gas stations were
02:25nowhere to be found.
02:26The construction of such designs continued for several decades before motorcycles started to get a bit heavier,
02:33gained mass, and began to look noticeably different from bicycles.
02:37And by that time, there were more gas stations along the roads as well.
02:41The popularity of motorized bicycles would sometimes decline, then rise again.
02:46In a perfect world, we all want to travel on the vehicle of our dreams.
02:51And most likely, it's a beautiful, powerful, fast, two- or four-wheeled machine.
02:56However, the world, damn it, is not perfect.
02:59And history has seen upheavals this severe,
03:01that people were in such a poor situation that they either had to walk,
03:05or use something cheap and motorized, as long as it moved.
03:09In fact, after World War II, the popularity of motorized bicycles was high both in Europe and in the Soviet
03:14Union.
03:15And it was all because of necessity.
03:17People's need for simple and cheap personal transportation.
03:21And let's move to the present day.
03:23The motoped company from the U.S. decided to pass off something long forgotten as new.
03:28And no, this is not an attack on the company itself or the people working there.
03:33This principle works quite well in many industries all the time.
03:37The guys from Motoped present their machine to the public as a modern,
03:41well-thought-out symbiosis of a bicycle and an internal combustion engine.
03:45And the purpose of these motorized bicycles is not quite the same as in Germany at the end of the
03:5040s.
03:51After all, Americans live in abundance.
03:54Motoped is a lightweight motorized machine for various kinds of extreme activities,
03:59hiking, including survival elements, and just for fun.
04:03The lineup includes both assembled models and kit sets for converting your own bicycle.
04:10Let me list the models.
04:13Survival Bike, the most talked about one in the media.
04:16And the name here speaks for itself.
04:19The motorized bicycle is designed for extreme riding, touring rides, and survival during this time.
04:25The bike comes stock with a special luggage rack featuring numerous mounts and additional fuel canisters.
04:32And in addition, you can attach a lot of things to the motorized bicycle.
04:36A sapper shovel, a crossbow, a rope, an axe, a tent, a sleeping bag.
04:41Basically everything an extreme enthusiast could want.
04:44And with the engine's modest fuel consumption and the extra canister, you'll have enough fuel for 300 miles.
04:51The next model is the Moped Pro.
04:54It's designed for MTB, freestyle, and similar kinds of extreme riding.
04:59And with a suspension travel of 20 centimeters, it allows you to tackle various obstacles without much difficulty,
05:06whether it's stumps, rocks, steps, or curbs.
05:10The third one is the Moped Cruzo Overall.
05:13This little machine is modeled after the racing board trackers of the early 20th century.
05:19Its purpose is for rides within the city, on the beach, and similar places, so the rider can show off
05:25and enjoy himself.
05:27The entire lineup comes with the legendary Honda engine.
05:30It's either a 50cc 2-horsepower engine or a 125cc engine with 7.8 horsepower.
05:38The maximum speed, respectively, is about 40 kilometers per hour for the 50cc and 62 kilometers per hour for the
05:46125cc.
05:48The weight for the survival version is 60 kilograms.
05:52For the pro version, it's 55, and for the cruiser, it's 58.
05:57Other than that, it's a modern bicycle chassis with good suspension, powerful hydraulic brakes, and well-designed ergonomics.
06:05Basically, nothing stops you from equipping this kind of motorized bicycle with a 190cc engine and reaching speeds of over
06:13100 kilometers per hour.
06:15However, such models are not listed on the official website.
06:19The price for the equipment ranges from $3,000 to $5,000, and the kit costs from $1,500 to
06:25$2,000.
06:26And whether to buy this equipment or not is a strictly personal matter.
06:30It is primarily aimed at the lucrative U.S. market.
06:34And if you are a citizen of that country and happen to have an extra $4,000 lying around, then
06:40why not buy it just for fun?
06:42That's just us in the post-Soviet region talking, yeah, for $4,000, I'd buy a used Japanese bike with
06:49papers and about 600cc.
06:52That's just perfect.
06:53This is a modern take on a motorized bicycle from Motoped.
06:58The vision is interesting, and the machine is made from quality materials and components.
07:04You can learn more about the models on the company's official website.
07:08They even have manuals in PDF format, where you can find all the specifications.
07:14For those who are curious, I'll attach the link in the video description.
07:18That's the end of my story.
07:20Thank you very much for your attention.
