With Donald Trump and Elon Musk drawn into the political discussion, Carney is emphasizing Canada’s sovereignty and the importance of Canadians deciding their own future.

The Alberta referendum debate has raised questions about the province’s relationship with the rest of Canada, national unity, and the influence of U.S. political figures on Canadian affairs. Carney’s response puts the spotlight on growing tensions surrounding Alberta’s future and Canada’s political independence.

00:00We are here to get out the vote today.
00:03Okay.
00:03So we need a bit of a raw, raw speech.
00:08We need a raw, raw speech.
00:12We've been hitting the doors in Skyview last night.
00:14We had 150 people on the doors.
00:16We think that the thing is breaking in our favour.
00:19We're going to send a strong message that we are stronger together.
00:22We are stronger together.
00:23And Canada's worth fighting for.
00:25What should we be saying on the door today?
00:26And fighting for is about showing up, showing up to vote.
00:31Polls don't vote, people vote.
00:34And so, and look, I'm going to say it two ways.
00:38The first is there couldn't be a worse time for this referendum.
00:44It's a dangerous and divided world.
00:47And, you know, it's time for us to come together and stand up for ourselves
00:53and to take care of each other.
00:57Right?
00:57That's the lesson that we've taken.
00:59Absolutely.
00:59And this is an opportunity to do both.
01:03Stand up for Alberta at the heart of Canada.
01:06Recognize that we're all responsible for each other.
01:09You think of the examples.
01:10You think of this province, you know, 30% of the people in this province were born and educated in
01:18other provinces of Canada.
01:20They've come here because, well, why wouldn't you come to Bridgeland?
01:23Why wouldn't you come to Calgary?
01:24Why wouldn't you come to Alberta to build it even better?
01:30When we have forest fires, firefighters from across Canada come here and help to put them out.
01:37We saw that in Jasper.
01:38We saw that in Fort McMurray.
01:39We see it the other way in British Columbia.
01:41We see people standing by.
01:44When I go around the world, when my colleagues and Corey and I go around the world, everybody wants to
01:49do more with Canada.
01:51Great opportunities throughout this province.
01:57Look, this year, since the start of this year, our exports of grain, of canola, of beef are up 80
02:05% because of some of the trade deals.
02:11We're making ourselves more independent.
02:14We're making ourselves stronger as a country, stronger as Albertans.
02:18Why?
02:19So we can live our lives as we want.
02:22We can have the diversity in this province that we take care of each other and we build together.
02:27And in order to do that, rah, rah, rah, in order to do that for the youth of this great
02:34province, we need to get people out to vote.
02:36So I just wanted to come here and thank you for what you've already done.
02:39Thank you for what you're going to do in the next few days.
02:41Make sure everyone's out there marking their ballots on live Monday, including Monday, including No to the 9th.
02:57Here's the technical stuff from an organizer.
02:59Advanced voting is ongoing.
03:00Get out there and vote.
03:01If you haven't voted yet, please do it now.
03:03And then sign up for a get out the vote shift because we know that people trust their friends, neighbours
03:08and families on this stuff.
03:09And we know that we're stronger together, right?
03:11And so you heard it from the Prime Minister here.
03:13Everyone comes from somewhere, right?
03:15And let's build this country and this province together.
03:17So we have the Prime Minister, ministers here today and a whole bunch of door knockers.
03:22And this is what Alberta is all about.
03:24Right?
03:24Let's bring it home.
03:25Literally from the grassroots up.
03:27Absolutely.
