00:00When I first started this page, a lot of my content was aimed towards the next generation of hairstylists, helping
00:06them at the beginning of their journeys, make sense of what the industry is, how to enter it, and make
00:13friends along the way.
00:14And I kind of had a little reminder of that today. I posted, if you haven't seen it, have a
00:20look at my previous video before this, but I was simply just walking the streets, going to a gym that
00:26I used to go to in an area I used to live at.
00:29And I was walking past the salon, slightly looked in, and a beautiful girl named Sinead approached me from the
00:35street and she said,
00:37Hey, I follow you on TikTok. I was wondering if you would like a blow dryer.
00:42And the funny thing was, this is how I know everything is just like meant to be and things align,
00:48is that I messaged about five minutes before walking past that store,
00:53I messaged my salon that I work at asking if they had free time for a blow dryer and bless
00:58them, they did.
00:59However, I could not pass up on the fact that this girl approached me and stopped me, which meant that
01:06she put herself out there in a situation that may be uncomfortable,
01:10put herself into a situation where she may have been rejected and, you know, gave herself the confidence to simply
01:19just ask, took a risk.
01:20So I said yes. And I sat in her chair and I was just pleasantly surprised with the experience, her
01:30expertise, just everything.
01:33Like I will a hundred percent be back, but I guess that this is a little helpful tip because I've
01:39always asked for advice to apprentices.
01:42Now, this girl is not an apprentice, but if I was an apprentice and this is what I used to
01:47do back in the day,
01:48I did used to put myself out there in situations that felt uncomfortable, in situations that would have somebody say
01:55no to me.
01:56And I was always rewarded.
01:58And if it wasn't rewarded with that particular thing I was reaching for, something along came better.
02:04Or when I put myself in an uncomfortable situation where I could get rejected and I wasn't, something amazing came
02:12from it and for years to come too.
02:14So if you're an apprentice, okay, I would highly suggest putting yourself out there, reaching out to people that you
02:23can practice on, hitting the streets.
02:25There is no shame in hitting the streets.
02:28Like when we first started in hair 20 years ago, that is how we built our clientele from handing out
02:34flyers, approaching people.
02:35There was no social media and I was able to be booked and busy by doing that.
02:42Now, just because we have the tool of social media now doesn't mean that we should forget all of the
02:47things that once worked for us in the past.
02:50Every now and then it's okay to tap into those strategies.
02:53They worked for many years prior to social media even starting.
02:57Doesn't mean that they can't work now.
02:59But also the worst thing that anybody can say is no.
03:02And once somebody has told you no, that's the worst thing that can happen.
03:05And once the worst thing that's happened can already happen, there's no fear anymore.
03:11There shouldn't be a fear anymore.
03:13So allow it to happen.
03:14Let it happen once so that next time when you're asked, can I look after you?
03:20Can you come in for a blow drive?
03:21Whatever it is that you want and you're received with the answer of yes, it's going to feel 10 times
03:27better.
03:27Mark my words.
03:29Apprentices or anybody aspiring to be in the industry, please leave a comment down below on anything that you want
03:35me to touch on, talk on, give you help on or advice on.
03:40Because I'm always asked, Sarah, I need some advice for apprentices, but I want you to get specific.
03:46Use me as an example where ask and you shall receive.
03:49Don't make it generic.
03:51Tell me what you want and let me deliver it.
