Shadow Scottish Secretary Harriet Cross says Scotland already has a lot of “devolved powers” and rejects Andy Burnham’s calls to expand devolution in Scotland. Cross argues devolved powers are still “too centralised in Holyrood” and that Labour are just proposing another “layer of politicians”. Report by Keechl. 00:00Well, first, I think I should comment on the fact that this will be, apart from the opening ceremony of
00:04the Commonwealth Games,
00:05this will be Andy Burnham's first official visit to Scotland since becoming Prime Minister.
00:09He didn't come to Scotland during his summer listening tour, which was obviously disappointing.
00:13But from my point of view, in terms of more devolution, Scotland already has a lot of devolved powers.
00:22It has the most devolved government largely in the world.
00:26But those powers or those devolved powers have not helped the people of Scotland.
00:31They're too centralised within Holyrood.
00:33What Scotland needs is those powers to be released. And the SNP can do that.
00:38What we don't need is more politicians. And that's effectively what Andy Burnham seems to be offering today.
00:43We don't need more layers of politics. We just need the politics that we have and the politicians who are
00:47there to administer them to do it better.
