Jodar vs Ruud Shanghai Masters quarterfinal: Spain's breakout star Rafael Jodar faces Norway's Casper Ruud with a semifinal place on the line at the Shanghai Masters.
Rafael Jodar, the 20-year-old twelfth seed, stormed into the last eight with his third straight comeback from a set down, beating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. The win made him the second-youngest quarterfinalist in Shanghai Masters history and his 41st victory of a breakthrough first full season on tour. His week has not been without controversy: Jodar was handed a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct after reportedly snapping at a ball kid during the first-set tiebreak, but he steadied himself to keep his Turin race hopes alive, where he sits 11th.
Casper Ruud, the 20th seed, reached the quarterfinals when Felix Auger-Aliassime retired with a knee problem while Ruud led 5-2 in the opening set. The Norwegian has now reached the quarterfinals at all nine current ATP Masters 1000 events, with Shanghai the last missing piece of the set.
The two have never met in an official match, though they recently played together as teammates on Team Europe at the Laver Cup in London. Who takes the semifinal spot? Watch our full breakdown.
