00:00The new lab is really providing the expertise and the capacity for us to
00:07deliver new diagnostic tests and particularly a combination of diagnostic
00:11tests that we call composite biomarker testing that allows us to get the right
00:17treatment to the right patient at the right time. Yeah so the myeloma testing
00:22is for a disease called multiple myeloma and this is a bone marrow cancer it's a
00:27blood cancer but it can have actually very severe impact on patient if the
00:33disease is not well controlled. Composite biomarker testing involves
00:37combining information about a patient and their tumor with artificial
00:41intelligence to build the fullest picture of a person's cancer. The findings will
00:47help doctors ensure NHS patients can access clinical trials, more personalized
00:52treatments and can have flexible treatment plans that change as their cancer does.
00:57Clinical trials have already shown positive results in using these
01:01circulating tumor DNA blood tests to monitor patients to see whether their
01:06cancer is coming back. For a long time we had very limited treatments for myeloma
01:12but this has absolutely changed over the last years. We now see patients fortunately
01:16with this disease if well managed living for 20 years potentially if they get the
01:24right treatment and the right care at the right time. The problem with us is that
01:28myeloma is a very different disease. No patient has the same type of disease as the
01:33other patient. Some patients with myeloma have disease that needs a lot of ongoing
01:39treatment and actually quite intensive treatment to get on top of the disease and
01:44they benefit from ongoing treatment and other patients can do quite well with just a
01:49short duration of treatment and follow-up. And we need diagnostics to guide us as to
01:53what to use and this is actually where the diagnostic center comes into play. We can
01:58now offer a whole combination of tests composite biomarkers as we call it that
02:04tell us a whether the disease is aggressive and might need more intensive treatment or is
02:09less aggressive and can actually do well with less treatment. But we can also do imaging to see whether the
02:16disease is sitting in different pockets or
02:19of the bone marrow that we might otherwise not see. And we can follow the disease in a very personalized
02:26way to track the response of the disease.
02:28And that can be both with a bone marrow test but also with a blood test that's really very innovative
02:33and over time might even help us track patients remotely.
02:38For example with blood tests at home. At the moment it still needs a blood test in the hospital but
02:42we're working already ahead and this is where this center is really bringing in the innovation, the expertise
02:48that we need to make life with the disease much more favorable for our patients moving forward.
