Donald Trump’s new White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia is preparing to face reporters for her first official briefing, with major questions expected over the Iran war, rising fuel prices, and the latest developments in U.S. foreign policy. As the new face of the Trump administration’s press operation, Zacharia faces intense scrutiny over how she handles tough questions on national security, energy costs, and the president’s controversial diplomatic claims. Reporters are also expected to press her on Trump’s purported energy ceasefire involving Ukraine and Russia, putting the new press secretary under pressure from day one. With Washington watching closely, her first briefing could offer an early indication of how the White House plans to communicate its position on escalating international tensions and economic concerns.

00:00Spending evenings with my kids is completely unacceptable.
00:04So my president, excuse me, my husband, that's a good one.
00:09My husband is out here, is out here for the week.
00:14Good morning.
00:16Good morning.
00:19I am so honored to work for President Trump and the American people
00:25as the new White House press secretary.
00:30I want to thank President Trump for his trust that he has placed in me.
00:36I have wanted to work for him for a very long time.
00:42I'm looking forward to working with each of you as well,
00:46especially as we are in the middle of the midterm blitz with energy and excitement
00:53never seen before in the history of midterms thanks to President Trump.
00:58Just look no further than last night in Youngstown, Ohio,
01:02where President Trump delivered another blockbuster rally out on the trail.
01:09The arena was overflowing with enthusiasm as thousands came out to support President Trump,
01:16as well as special guest Jake Paul and football legend John Gruden.
01:22The president also announced the Department of War
01:25has officially selected Cleveland, Ohio
01:28as the new home for the U.S. Navy's submarine component repair center.
01:33This massive 46,000 square foot facility will manufacture, repair,
01:41and maintain key parts for virtually all new and existing submarines.
01:48This is historic.
01:50Everyday Americans are showing up in droves to attend these rallies
01:54because of President Trump's America First agenda
01:58of lower taxes, higher wages, and one of my favorite, secure borders.
02:07But it doesn't stop there.
02:10President Trump is planning to hold rallies in Alaska, Arizona, Montana,
02:17where I will be with him,
02:19and Georgia, building off of the incredible momentum
02:24generated over the last several days
02:27from his stops in Tennessee, New York, Texas, and Nebraska.
02:33He is an energetic president.
02:36Attendance is at record highs as enthusiastic, hard-working Americans
02:40are lining up and packing arenas
02:44to support President Trump and Republicans.
02:49It's not hard to see why.
02:53President Trump is fighting and delivering
02:55for American workers every minute of every day.
03:00Real wages are up 1.2% since President Trump took office,
03:06with average annual earnings outpacing inflation by $800.
03:12Under Biden, real wages fell nearly 4%,
03:16with the average private sector worker's annual purchasing power
03:20declining by nearly $3,000 annually.
03:25President Trump is the first president in modern history
03:29to actually lower prescription drug prices,
03:33delivering the biggest drop in 63 years.
03:37President Trump has created more than 1 million private sector jobs
03:42in his second term,
03:44including nearly 112,000 factory construction jobs
03:48and 72,000 manufacturing jobs this year alone.
03:53And thanks to President Trump,
03:55we are once again bringing back American energy dominance
03:59because energy security is national security.
04:05President Trump secured the biggest oil deal in world history,
04:11delivering the U.S. majority control
04:13of more than 65 billion barrels
04:16of proven oil reserves in Venezuela.
04:20He had a historic one-day war,
04:22and now we have a booming economy
04:25and a great relationship with Venezuela.
04:29The U.S. achieved record domestic oil and gas production
04:33in 2025
04:34and record crude and petroleum product exports in 2026.
04:40Building off of his historic boom in energy production
04:43in the first 15 months of this administration,
04:46we have secured trillions of dollars in new investments,
04:50trillions of dollars.
04:52Including $1.4 trillion from the United Arab Emirates,
04:57$600 billion from Apple,
04:59and $340 billion from Amazon.
05:02No other president could have gotten these deals done.
05:06Just weeks ago,
05:08President Trump announced that
05:09Masabi Metallics will build
05:11a massive $15 billion steel complex in Iowa,
05:16the largest steel plant ever built in the United States.
05:23This facility,
05:24a historic facility,
05:26will create 1,750 new permanent jobs
05:30and support up to 6,000 construction jobs
05:34and generate an estimated $95 billion in economic output.
05:42In addition,
05:43President Trump and Endural announced Arsenal 2,
05:46the biggest American shipyard push since World War II in Maryland.
05:51This new facility will create about 3,100 direct jobs
05:56and support more than 11,000 indirect jobs.
06:01President Trump also unveiled a South Korea energy investment package
06:06of up to $200 billion in the United States.
06:10This is an amazing deal.
06:12This includes as much as $120 billion
06:15to build eight large-scale nuclear power plants.
06:20Something we've needed as the United States
06:22and something President Trump promised on the campaign trail
06:25and something President Trump is delivering on
06:28just like he delivers on every promise.
06:32In addition to that,
06:35there is $54 billion tied to the Alaska LNG pipeline
06:42and terminal to service the Pacific Rim
06:45and sell fuel to our allies,
06:47as well as $22.3 billion
06:50for a 6-gigawatt natural gas power facility in Texas.
06:56Not only is the Trump administration
06:58bringing in trillions of dollars
07:00to invest throughout the country,
07:02but we are also protecting your tax dollars
07:05by addressing fraud head-on.
07:08Since taking office,
07:09the Trump administration has uncovered
07:11over $260 billion of fraud,
07:15stopped $72 billion of fraud
07:19annually through administrative actions,
07:22and recovered $58.9 billion
07:25through indictments, settlements,
07:28and civil monetary penalties.
07:31Above all,
07:33President Trump is working to secure
07:35the Western Hemisphere
07:37for centuries to come.
07:40President Trump signed an unprecedented agreement
07:43giving the United States lasting control
07:46over security interests in Greenland.
07:50President Trump has used the power of tariffs
07:52to stop China
07:55from producing fentanyl precursor chemicals.
07:59The fentanyl killed many of our citizens,
08:01and he is hard at work
08:03in ensuring that that won't happen.
08:05And here at home,
08:07fentanyl trafficking across the southern border
08:10is down 56%,
08:12and fentanyl-linked deaths plunged 22%
08:16in a single year
08:18because of President Trump.
08:20This is a president and administration
08:23that is looking out for you,
08:25the American people,
08:27and I'm thrilled
08:28to officially be part of this incredible journey together.
08:33And with that,
08:35I will take your questions.
08:38Here in our new media seat,
08:40we have Nick Gilbertson from Breitbart.
08:43Hi, Katie.
08:43Welcome to the briefing room,
08:45and congrats on the new position.
08:47One of the things
08:48that your predecessor, Caroline Leavitt,
08:49did is open this room up
08:51to more voices, not less.
08:53At Breitbart,
08:54that's something our founder, Andrew Breitbart,
08:56certainly believed in,
08:57and whether that's adding this new media seat,
09:00adding new media voices to the pool,
09:01can you tell us what you plan to do
09:04to continue to ensure
09:05that new media voices continue to be heard
09:08here at the White House?
09:08Yeah, well, firstly,
09:09my predecessor, Caroline Leavitt,
09:11did an incredible job,
09:12and I completely agree
09:14with the choice of new media seat.
09:16We are absolutely going to keep it,
09:18and we're going to expand on it
09:20to the extent possible.
09:21We love new media,
09:22and we want to be able to embrace it.
09:25Absolutely.
09:26And then just to follow up, too,
09:27you did touch on presidential travel.
09:29The president's been all over the place,
09:31and he kind of laid out his schedule
09:33over the next couple days,
09:34but is it only going to intensify
09:36here in the next couple of weeks
09:37up to midterms?
09:39Absolutely.
09:39You can expect more of the midterm blitz.
09:42Just now, we've added Kentucky,
09:45and we have a few other stops
09:47as he goes down to Florida.
09:49So it'll be Georgia, Kentucky, and Florida.
09:52Katie.
09:52Hi, Katie.
09:54Hello.
09:55We will take Peter Ducey.
09:56Thanks, Katie.
09:57Yes.
09:58Nice to meet you.
09:59You're starting as White House press secretary
10:02three weeks before a midterm cycle
10:04that President Trump himself says
10:05will be very tough for Republicans.
10:09Is your job, just to speak about
10:12White House matters,
10:13or is it to make things less tough
10:15for Republicans in the midterms?
10:17Well, Peter, I get to do what I was doing
10:21on the outside already,
10:23which was hoping to amplify, multiply,
10:26and expand upon President Trump's
10:28incredible agenda for the American people.
10:30And what I hope to do in this position
10:32is to take that into an official capacity
10:35and only build on, only amplify,
10:37and only multiply, to the extent possible,
10:40all of the wins he's making for Americans.
10:43For Americans to understand
10:45how much has changed
10:47in this brief period of time,
10:48what he's been able to accomplish,
10:50my goal is to be able to communicate that
10:52in complete tandem with the President,
10:55as he is his own best spokesperson,
10:57and will absolutely be leading the way
11:00with that.
11:01And I want to ask you a policy question.
11:04Has the U.S. stopped sharing intel with Ukraine?
11:08I'll have to get back to you on that.
11:10I'll have to get back to you on that.
11:12Yes.
11:15Alina Shirazi.
11:17Hi.
11:18Congrats on the job, first of all.
11:20And I have two questions for you, if I can.
11:24First of all, on Kimberly Gilfoyle,
11:26the Daily Mail has been reporting on her
11:27since last year.
11:28The President said yesterday to reporters
11:30that he is considering firing her.
11:33Do you know a timeline for that?
11:35And also, potentially, who could be on the shortlist
11:37to replace her if he does?
11:39We have asked Ambassador Gilfoyle to resign.
11:43She has been a wonderful asset to the team,
11:45and we wish her well.
11:47Okay.
11:49Second question for you, if I may.
11:51A personal question.
11:53Your family is in California.
11:54Your husband, you have four children.
11:58I'm wondering how you manage,
11:59how are you going to manage that?
12:01Caroline Levitt left because she wanted to spend
12:02more time with her family.
12:04And also, did she give you any advice
12:06on how to handle this job
12:07and the people in this room?
12:10Well, first of all,
12:11I want to give my husband an amazing shout-out.
12:13We have four kids,
12:14ranging from 12, 10, 8, and 6.
12:17Three of them are boys,
12:18so we have a handful.
12:20And I adore my family.
12:22I love them.
12:23They are my priority.
12:24I love being with my kids.
12:27The idea of not spending evenings with my kids
12:29is completely unacceptable.
12:32So my president,
12:33or excuse me,
12:34my husband,
12:36that's a good one.
12:37My husband is out here,
12:40is out here for the week
12:42because we have two birthdays in our family,
12:44and we are very, very protective
12:46of celebrating birthdays as a family.
12:48So he brought the entire crew out here.
12:50Bless him.
12:51It's a lot.
12:52And we will be moving out here.
12:53And as far as your second question is,
12:57yes, Caroline has been an incredible support.
13:00She gave me great and wonderful feedback
13:03on how to balance.
13:04I think this job is not one you necessarily balance,
13:07and I would love to share that in my career,
13:10I stayed home with my kids from 2014 to 2020
13:13in the process of having them.
13:15And then when I started working again,
13:17I was able to integrate them into my life.
13:19There are many photos of which are not public.
13:22The kids and I at Fox Bureau,
13:24where they are sitting with me in the pod before a hit.
13:27So I intend to, to the extent possible,
13:30include my family,
13:31include my kids in my work.
13:33Though my work will be demanding,
13:35they will always be a priority.
13:36And I, I,
13:37President Trump
13:38is the most family-friendly president we've ever had.
13:41He has hired more women with families,
13:43and the fact that he knew I had four kids
13:45and he knew that this job would be demanding
13:48and still place his trust in me
13:49shows that I know I'm capable of being able to step up to that.
13:53So thank you for that question.
13:54In fact,
13:55I am going to end it
13:56because President Trump is heading out to Marine One
13:59for our historic trip to Alaska.
14:02And we can ask him all of the questions out there.
14:05So thank you so much.
14:06Did you come back on Friday with Gilfoyle?
14:09Did the President speak with Ambassador Gilfoyle?
14:12To the question on,
14:14the President will be back on Thursday.
14:16And that's what I will answer.
14:17I'll leave it there.
14:20He will answer those questions out in Marine One.
