Sal Capaccio explains why Josh Allen did what he had to do and got the Bills offense going with his legs last night against the Rams.
Transcript
00:00But let's start with Josh Allen, because it was another one of these games where he does a thing that's
00:04never been done before.
00:06Ten yards per attempt passing, ten yards per attempt rushing.
00:09He very much put to bed the idea that he wasn't willing to run.
00:14Maybe the last two games he was feeling something.
00:17In this moment, he felt it necessary, and it was a game-changing element to this Bills offense.
00:23Yeah, and when you say willing, I think that Josh Allen's probably always been willing,
00:29but maybe over the last couple weeks, it was like, man, we've got to dial it back.
00:33Less designed runs. Don't do anything. It's going to get you hurt.
00:36I think Josh, by necessity, had to, as you put it.
00:39To me, that was what happened here.
00:41It wasn't really even until the second quarter, maybe, there was a designed run.
00:45I'm like, okay, there he goes.
00:46And then, as the game went on, guys, it was just clear that their passing game was not going to
00:51be nearly as effective without DJ Moore again.
00:54They were running in the same problem they've run into before, and guys couldn't get open.
00:57And Josh kind of just took it in his own hands.
00:59He said, I'm going to have to run.
01:00And as the game went on, he kept running again and more and more.
01:05And he wound up with 121 yards rushing.
01:09Incredible.
01:10I gave that an arrow up, Josh Allen using his legs again in my arrow up, arrow down column because
01:15of that.
01:15Because it mattered.
01:16It was a very big part of what they needed to do, what he needed to do in this game.
01:21But it was also because they just could not really throw the ball very well for whatever reason.
01:27And I'm sure a lot of it had to do with no DJ Moore.
01:30I mean, you look at the stats for the receivers, guys.
01:35Wide receivers.
01:37I tweeted out at halftime, I think it was, or end of the third quarter.
01:40End of the third quarter, okay?
01:41It was Ty Johnson with 70 yards receiving, not one other player in more than seven.
01:48It was incredible.
01:49And then look at how it wound up still.
01:52Khalil gets that long catch and run in overtime.
01:55He winds up with three for 81.
01:57Otherwise, Ty Johnson, Kalisha Kieran, then it's just the receivers themselves, Keyon Coleman, seven yards, right?
02:04I mean, they had to choose.
02:06Anyway, so Josh Allen running was necessary in this game.
