00:01There was a report which was prepared to sort of track how the trial was going here in the
00:07Northern Territory. That was released a short time ago and at that time found that more than 3,700
00:14people had purchased capsicum spray. 46 of those didn't meet the legal requirements and there had
00:21been three illegal deployments of the weapon. Now when this trial was first announced last year
00:29there were a number of groups including domestic violence service providers who raised concerns
00:35about how the weapon could be used and whether it may actually put people, particularly vulnerable
00:41people, at greater risk. However the government has insisted that all in all the trial has been
00:48extremely successful and said that they will be introducing legislation to make capsicum spray
00:54permanently available for self-defence.
