00:02A goodbye to home and a step into the unknown.
00:06Today Yissa residents vacated the Darwin site.
00:09Some medically vulnerable people like Talathia, who has rheumatic heart disease,
00:15being shifted to Batchelar.
00:16If I'm going to be stuck out there and there's no way of getting back into town,
00:21me being crook, the ambulance is not even going to come in time.
00:25But they're going to pick up another body.
00:27She's considering long grassing in Darwin after a short stay at Batchelar.
00:31But it's not just herself she's worried about.
00:34I'm more worried about these old people that's coming.
00:37They're sick.
00:38I know a couple with cancer, another one on dialysis.
00:43Where are they going to go? Like seriously?
00:45Is that place even established properly for these people?
00:48Residents today have been waiting for the bus behind me
00:52in the heat of the day during the build-up.
00:55They're getting on the bus to Batchelar, a facility that the government says isn't finished.
01:01The facility at Yissa in Batchelar is in its final stages of commissioning
01:04and people will be moving out there in the next few days.
01:08And we have seen with our own eyes that the Batchelar facility,
01:12the alternate facility for Yissa, a hundred kilometres away,
01:15is not ready and fit for purpose to receive residents as of today.
01:21Even the ride out to Batchelar, a bumpy one.
01:24The bus breaking down less than ten kilometres after leaving the Darwin facility.
01:29As residents finally arrived at Batchelar this afternoon,
01:33furniture was still being assembled.
01:35A rush job, out of sight, but still front of mind for these people.
01:41Or the idea of the whole house.
01:41Or the outside, the door does not go away.
