00:00Today, we are breaking down the core rules, or excuse me, the core roles, the dominant, the submissive, and the

00:09switch,

00:10and why understanding the weight and responsibility of the role you choose is critical before you ever step into a

00:15scene with someone.

00:18Let's start with the definitions, because clarity is where safety begins.

00:22The dominant, or dom, slash domay.

00:25The person who holds, directs, and guides the energy or physical control during a scene.

00:30Being a dom isn't about ego, cruelty, or unchecked power.

00:34It's about stewardship, immense responsibility, and active attunement to your partner's physical and psychological boundaries.

00:42The submissive, or sub.

00:44The person who consciously chooses to yield control, surrender agency, or serve within agreed-upon limits.

00:50Submitting is not weakness. It is an active, empowering choice.

00:54A submissive places immense trust in their partner, requiring profound bravery and self-awareness.

01:00The switch.

01:01Someone who can comfortably inhabit either role, depending on the dynamic, context, mood, or scene.

01:08Switches possess a unique vantage point because they intimately understand the vulnerabilities and responsibilities of both sides of the power

01:15of equation.

01:17Oh, excuse me, both sides of the power equation.

01:20Why is it so crucial to understand these roles before you ever enter a scene?

01:25Because stepping into power play without clear boundaries, defined roles, and mutual agreement is a recipe for emotional and physical
