00:00They make a mistake once, they shan't make it twice.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the moments when the cast
00:10of the cult sitcom broke character.
00:18Number 10, Zach Braff.
00:20Tobias suffered a rare psychological affliction of never being able to be completely naked.
00:25Excuse me, do these effectively hide my thunder?
00:28We're not sure how anyone kept a straight face whenever David Cross wore his denim cutoffs.
00:33Tobias Fumke's struggle as a person of never-nude experience, which is exactly how it sounds,
00:39was given a hilarious punchline in Season 2's Spring Break episode.
00:43Zach Braff guest-starred as Philip Litt, the producer of a sleazy adult video series,
00:48who was ironically a never-nude himself.
00:51You're asking girls to take their chops off, but you can't even be naked?
00:54I gotta get this.
00:55Lindsay, I've already got it.
01:00I'm back in the cutoffs.
01:01Braff is unable to keep it together when Cross comes at him with his own deadpan approach.
01:06Their not-safe-for-work improv makes for a particularly fun outtake from one of the show's classic episodes.
01:12Have you ever photographed your balls?
01:15That was me.
01:16Because I saw those on the internet.
01:18You just get over it.
01:19It's just nudity.
01:20Just because you're ashamed of your body, you mean everybody has.
01:23Number 9.
01:24How dare you?
01:26You've got to talk to mom about this.
01:28She can't possibly do it.
01:29If dad finds out, he'll go berserk.
01:30Dad finds out about what?
01:32Well, I guess I've got no choice now.
01:34Jeffrey Tambor is just trying to get this scene right.
01:37On-screen son, Jason Bateman, is clearly trying not to interfere, waiting patiently until he gets it.
01:44Tambor repeats the sentence...
01:50Several times in a row, but he can't quite get the line reading he wants.
01:55Just when he seems to have managed a take he can live with, Bateman is the one who breaks character.
02:00How dare you?
02:01I don't...
02:01Well, come on.
02:02I don't...
02:02Tambor's disappointment is the funniest part.
02:05Now he decides to laugh, but between the two of them, the odds of them getting through this scene anytime
02:10soon are getting slimmer and slimmer.
02:12She's working the warden, you're making fake heads. You're planning an escape.
02:16How dare you? I ought to shave your head and make you sit under that camera all night, mister.
02:21Number 8. Your Fault
02:22No, it's okay, son. We'll figure it out.
02:24If we do, we'll have the last laugh.
02:26We'll be the laughingstock of the boardwalk.
02:28Most of the things that happen on Arrested Development are absurd, if not completely surreal.
02:33In Jason Bateman's defense, how is one supposed to keep their composure when a man in a full-size banana
02:38suit crosses your eyeline?
02:40The next day, Michael took off work to man the banana stand, while his son manned a banana.
02:46How you doing there, champ?
02:48This is my name, champ.
02:49Bateman immediately flubs the take with Michael Cera as his on-screen son crosses in front of him wearing a
02:54banana suit.
02:55He jokingly blames Cera for his mistake, ordering him to get back to his mark so they can start the
03:00scene again.
03:01Get back to one. God damn it. Your fault.
03:03Despite the vulgarity, it's a brief but wholesome look at the camaraderie on set.
03:07Number 7. I have to give up.
03:10But we're back on track, and we are scandal-free.
03:13Hey! You start the meeting without me?
03:17Mother, uh, this is Cal Collin. You remember my mother, Lucille?
03:21As Lucille Bluth, Jessica Walter was the ice queen to end them all.
03:26Her voice alone could terrify her on-screen children.
03:29When the actress makes a mistake, that hardened facade falls away entirely.
03:34Had to get up pretty early to get drunk by 1 o'clock.
03:37As it turns out, she had gotten up early and had taken pain medication because of a hangover-related headache.
03:43During one scene in the Bluth Company boardroom, Walter is desperately trying to remember her line.
03:49And she can't.
03:50We're not sure what the dialogue actually is here.
03:53We only know that she starts the line with enthusiasm, and she ends it with a whimper.
03:58I'd have to get up.
04:02It's the blooper equivalent of a balloon leaking all as helium.
04:06You'd never know she was the same woman who treated drinking contests like tea parties.
04:12Lucille, minutes out of rehab, was engaging in a drinking contest at the behest of her son.
04:19You know when you're ready, dear.
04:21Number 6. Nips.
04:22Can I interest you in a smoothie or an amol-
04:25Michael!
04:26Tobias, I thought that you were in Vegas with Kitty and the blue man group?
04:30No.
04:30One thing the show's outtakes reveal is that, despite playing the most normal Bluth relative,
04:36Jason Bateman is anything but.
04:38His comedic chemistry with David Cross is a case of opposites attracting.
04:42Say goodbye to these!
04:43Those are blue too!
04:45There were blue handprints on them?
04:47Yes!
04:48And I swear to you, they weren't-
04:49Yours.
04:50No, I know.
04:50It all points to Dad.
04:51Bateman is the straight man, and Cross is the absurd one.
04:55A blooper from the show's third season reveals that, sometimes, they switch roles.
05:00In a scene where Cross is showing Bateman his chest, Bateman starts ordering his co-star
05:04to raise his shirt even higher.
05:06These are all tasteful shots.
05:07Okay.
05:09I can't see your nips.
05:10You can't?
05:11Get it up higher, b***h.
05:12Can we get them harder?
05:13Can we get the fluffer in?
05:14Whether he's telling Cross he can't see his nipples for the camera's sake or for his own,
05:18it's a bizarre and quirky exchange that turns suddenly risqué.
05:23Number five.
05:23Gift certificate.
05:25I'm N. Bluth, aren't I?
05:27Legally, that's my real name.
05:28You've been doing all the Iraq business under it, thinking that it wouldn't be traceable.
05:31But it is, and I'm going down.
05:33In a scene where Michael Bluth shows his brother-in-law, Tobias Fuenke, his birth certificate,
05:38actor Jason Bateman flubs just one word.
05:41He refers to the paper as a gift certificate instead.
05:45Rather than simply stopping the scene, co-star David Cross simply continues on,
05:49ad-libbing the next line in response.
05:52M. Bluth.
05:52At least that's what it says right here on my gift certificate.
05:55It's probably, it's more like a birth certificate.
05:57Well, it's a gift that God gave you.
05:59That's true.
05:59I find it.
06:00Michael's birth was a gift, if you really think about it.
06:03The quickness with which Cross yes ands that mistake is something only a true improviser
06:09can do.
06:09It's so good because it almost sounds like something Tobias would say if Michael had made
06:14that mistake himself.
06:16My dad's trying to pin all of his crimes on N. Bluth, and I might be N. Bluth.
06:21That's what it says according to my birth certificate.
06:24M. 4.
06:25Jason Bateman vs. The Mike
06:26Michael Bluth believed he just made a shocking discovery.
06:30I mean, that might be an older sister that we've never met.
06:33Wow.
06:33Look at the bait on that bird.
06:35Filming a scene with Portia de Rossi, Jason Bateman can't stop screwing up his lines.
06:40He's stressing the wrong syllables and sounds completely unnatural.
06:44His profane outbursts are funny enough.
06:46When he finally does get through the line, de Rossi starts laughing and imitating his reading
06:51of the line.
06:52Or a child that mom and dad gave up for some reason and whose identity they're now using
06:57to pin their crimes on.
06:58You know, the prosecutor...
07:02Fed up, he lightheartedly pops the windscreen off the shotgun mic, tries to place it on his
07:08face like a clown nose, and finally throws it.
07:10When a crew member tells him they'll need it, he jokingly remarks there's no wind in here
07:15and insists they keep going with the scene.
07:18No, he doesn't.
07:19There's no wind in here.
07:20Speak, woman!
07:23Let's go!
07:24Number three.
07:25What's the line?
07:26It's a good one.
07:27The city is sending out an inspector.
07:28They're going to be crawling over every inch of this place.
07:31You're going to need to leave.
07:32Well, where the hell do you want me to go, Michael?
07:34Back to your mother's.
07:35I believe there's a freeloading loser in my bed.
07:38As the Bluth family patriarch, Jeffrey Tambor mastered the throwaway joke.
07:43His ability to pass off some unhinged dialogue as no big deal is one of his strengths.
07:48Do you feel okay?
07:50Just forget it!
07:52I wanted to share my pop secret with you!
07:55Oh, but forget it!
07:56Pop secret?
07:58Performing a scene in the Bluth family's attic, Tambor suddenly goes up on his next line.
08:03Instead of cursing himself, he plays it off.
08:05He asks for the line he forgot in the most charming way.
08:09Instead of just saying line, he asks for the line and even compliments it,
08:13even though he can't quite remember it.
08:15Never, never to, uh, what is that line?
08:19It's a good one.
08:19At least the writers will be happy to hear that.
08:22Number two.
08:23Eyebrows.
08:24And later, Sitwell laid out his plan.
08:26Sorry that my son couldn't be here.
08:28Let me guess.
08:29Girlfriend.
08:29Well, you know, it could be worse.
08:31You could want to marry your mother.
08:32Ed Begley Jr. played Bluth business rival Stan Sitwell,
08:36a man who suffers from alopecia.
08:38As a result, he wears fake eyebrows that are constantly threatening to make a break for it.
08:43Is that what we're saying?
08:44I mean, come on!
08:45Where's your decent...
08:46What the hell just fell off your face?
08:48No, one of this guy's eyebrows just fell in the bowl of candy beans.
08:50I was carrying a spare.
08:51Will Arnett seems to find these eyebrows a particularly challenging scene partner.
08:56The big, bushy eyebrows begin to pull away from Begley's face.
09:00Okay, we're good.
09:02And Joe finally felt that someone believed in him.
09:06Jostled out of place by so much as a slight breeze,
09:09the eyebrows begin to lower over the actor's eyes like a curtain,
09:13sending the men into convulsing laughter.
09:15Just when you think they've managed it,
09:17Begley lets out a burst of laughter,
09:19sending the eyebrows out of place yet again.

09:48Number 1.
09:49Mrs. Featherbottom's Nose
09:51Allow me to introduce myself.
09:53My name is Felidia Featherbottom,
09:55and I can cook, and I can clean, and I can take care of the little ones.
10:00Season 2 sees Tobias Fuenke pretending to be a female British housekeeper
10:05modeled after Mrs. Doubtfire and Mary Poppins.
10:08In character as Mrs. Featherbottom,
10:11Tobias' off-pitch singing and attempts to emotionally connect with his daughter
10:15are mostly pathetic.
10:16He even breaks into song to try to cheer her up.
10:19Oh, well, you should always read the label.
10:23You should always read it well.
10:25In the most initials way.
10:27Mr. Fingerbottom?
10:28Mrs.
10:29It's during one of these moments that Cross's prosthetic nose comes loose
10:32as he tries to use a tissue.
10:34The fluttering of the prosthetic,
10:36which is just barely holding on to his real nose,
10:39gives the character's reminder to keep a stiff upper lip a note of absurd irony.
10:45Keep a stiff...
10:47He was...
10:51He was still on the lip.
