Transcript
00:03Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at the bloopers and instances where the late,
00:08great Robin Williams broke himself, along with everyone in the vicinity. Expect spoilers ahead.
00:19Number 10. Breaking De Niro. Awakenings.
00:33During Awakenings, we got to witness the dramatic chemistry between Robin Williams and Robert De Niro
00:37as they gave it their all in this biographical drama. Behind the scenes, however, you get to
00:42see the funny side of the duo as Robin does what he does best, break people. During a scene,
00:47Robin fumbled with his line and ended up spiraling into a giggling fit, flexing a ridiculous voice
00:52during a prolonged joke. By now, Robin's already cracked and it's not too long before De Niro joins
01:11him, giving a full-blown belly laugh the likes of which nobody has ever heard. Whenever Robin went
01:16into a laughing fit, he always took others down with him.
01:23I want to be an old Jewish doctor.
01:25Number 9. Directing Robin. Old Dogs.
01:28Yeah! Yeah! Wait a minute! Let's be a coordinate! Let's do this!
01:33Yeah!
01:33How often did it happen that you had to stop Robin from acting? During the filming of Old Dogs,
01:39Robin got so into character that he kept going even after the scene was done. Eventually,
01:43John Travolta had to come back on screen to pull him out of the frame.
01:47Phew! And it wasn't well animal either.
01:51What? Get off the screen!
01:56It seems blasphemous to tell Robin to stop when he's on a roll, but you can only imagine
02:00how awkward it must have been for him to realize that he was still going after his time was up.
02:05Still, it is once again a testament to Robin's acting, giving 1,000% long after the cameras
02:10weren't on.
02:11Me? My hands are shaking. Let's start again. I'm really scared.
02:18Number 8. The Perfect Flub Up. Mork and Mindy.
02:21I have another idea.
02:22What?
02:23I have a male hygiene protection.
02:30When Robin got his big break on the sitcom Mork and Mindy, it was clear that he and Pam Dauber
02:34had a natural comedic chemistry on screen. As you can imagine, the fun only continued behind
02:39the scenes. During the filming of one episode, Robin fumbled his line so hard that the scene
02:44was halted, and he couldn't improvise his way around it this time. But while he smiled awkwardly,
02:49Dauber was laughing loudly, clearly thinking it was the perfect flub up. Even when Robin
02:55can't pick himself up after a mistake, he still manages to tickle our funny bones. What
02:59we wouldn't give to be able to go back and see the show's filming process live.
03:03There's a nail on the f***ing set.
03:12Number 7. The On-Screen Slip. The Birdcage.
03:16Dad, you've got to get in there. Everything is going to hell.
03:19You didn't make an entree.
03:21In this overlooked classic, Armand Goldman, played by Williams, is panicking while trying
03:26to carry a pot of soup out to his dinner guests. He momentarily slips before getting back up,
03:30yelling at his son before walking back out of the kitchen.
03:33Sit up! It's okay! We're alright! It's fine! Just shut up!
03:38According to co-star Hank Azaria, Robin's slip and fall was unintentional, but he did so
03:43well at picking himself back up that they kept it in the film. If you get a closer look,
03:47you can see all three actors on screen trying their absolute hardest to hold back their laughter,
03:52and you can hear Robin's voice cracking for a moment. We're lucky they kept this blooper in.
03:56It is comedy gold and must be preserved.
03:59It's alright! Stop crying! God damn you! What are you standing there for? Go! Go!
04:03She'll be here in a minute! Go!
04:04Oh, damn it!
04:05Number 6. Robin vs. the Pelican, Jumanji
04:15Remember the scene in Jumanji when Alan tried and failed to shoo a pelican away before it stole
04:20the board game? Would you believe they had dozens of takes of this conflict? The director told Robin
04:25to come up with something funny on the spot. So what did Robin do? What he did best. Go bonkers.
04:30He tried multiple methods to intimidate the bird, most of which he couldn't help grinning through.
04:46In one take, the pelican bit him, so no matter the technique, Alan was destined to lose.
04:52In the end, they went with the standard screaming take, but we still have the found footage of this
04:57titanic battle of the ages.
04:59I know the seagulls. They're friends.
05:01Ah, it's mine!
05:03Oh, wow! Almost got the eel!
05:05Number 5. Breaking Phil Hartman, Saturday Night Live
05:09And so you're off to France!
05:12No, straight home for me!
05:13No! And so adieu!
05:16In a hilariously iconic Saturday Night Live sketch, Robin Williams plays a frustrated director
05:21trying to film a scene between Phil Hartman and John Lovitz, but Lovitz keeps messing up his line.
05:26Earlier in the sketch, Robin had an actual flub up with his line, but quickly caught himself
05:30with his famous improvisation. For a brief moment, we saw cracks in the mask as he momentarily
05:36broke character, only to immediately save face.
05:38Deliver the declaration of war papers?
05:40The armistice papers.
05:41That's right, sorry, forgive me. Oh, pardon me.
05:44Continuity! All right?
05:45Along with that, he also accomplished a miracle that day, causing Phil Hartman to break character,
05:51a feat that's barely ever been accomplished.
05:53There truly wasn't anyone that Robin couldn't break, especially not himself.
05:57Say with you!
05:58Ah! You got it!
06:00Brilliant!
06:01That's a wrap!
06:06Number 4. Multiple Introductions, Patch Adams
06:19Between the animal antics and Robin's flatulence incident, it's a miracle that anyone was able
06:24to do Patch Adams with a straight face. One of the biggest examples was while filming
06:28Patch meeting Mitch, Philip Seymour Hoffman's character.
06:31Hi, Patch Adams.
06:32Mitch Roman.
06:33To Georgetown University.
06:35I was awarded the William M. Thompson Scientific Achievement Award.
06:40Oh, wow!
06:42Phew!
06:43What happens when you put two actors renowned for their conflicting genres together in a room?
06:48Both Williams and Hoffman kept cracking up as their characters tried to one-up each other,
06:52and multiple takes were needed before they finally got the scene right.
06:55First impressions are definitely important, but Patch and Mitch had to go through several
06:59because their actors left each other in stitches every time.
07:06You're just crazy. I love you.
07:09God damn it. Hey, pal, let me finish.
07:19Number 3. The Coat Slip-Up
07:21Mork and Mindy
07:22What a bummer.
07:24I mean, we walked through half a boulder and we still don't find you a place to live.
07:29Once again, the show that gave Williams his start also gave us one of his funniest bloopers.
07:34Mork and Mindy have just come home from an unsuccessful house hunt for Mork.
07:37Our favorite Orkin goes to hang up his coat, only to miss the rack entirely.
07:41Mork's lack of coordination is enough to send both him and Mindy rolling with laughter,
07:46more so when the coat falls to the floor.
07:48Only Mork would be quirky enough to try and hang a coat on the wall and miss,
07:51but the fact that it happened by accident makes it all the funnier and makes Robin and Pam's laughter all
07:56the more genuine.
08:01Number 2. Rolling with the Ripped Pants
08:04Night at the Museum
08:05Among Robin's many talents is his ability to roll with the punches.
08:09For example, while filming Night at the Museum, he ripped his pants while dismounting from the horse.
08:14You can audibly hear them tearing.
08:19Rather than halt the scene, he stayed in character the whole time, trying to keep things rolling.
08:24Eventually, he can't contain it anymore and cracks a joke about his predicament,
08:27sending himself and the rest of the crew howling with laughter.
08:31Once again, we tip our hats to Robin for trying to save face as long as he did,
08:35but who could resist chuckling at a wardrobe malfunction like that?
08:38It's a vigorous life, and my pants are split so hard I can actually see it.

09:08Number 1. The Farting in Sleep Story
09:11Good Will Hunting
09:19During one of their sessions, Sean tries to teach Will
09:22why being perfect isn't all it's cracked up to be.
09:24He eases the tension by telling a story about his late wife
09:27and how she used to fart in her sleep.
09:29At that moment, everyone started laughing,
09:32including the camera guy, hence the shaking screen.
09:35She had all sorts of wonderful movies.
09:37You know, she used to fart in her sleep.
09:41I'm sorry I shared that with you.
09:44One night it was so loud it woke the dog up.
09:48What makes this even better is that Robin completely ad-libbed that story,
09:52so his and Matt Damon's laughter on screen was genuine.
09:55The moment was so unexpected yet perfect
09:57that they had to keep it in the final product.
09:59Even in a drama, Robin still found a way to make us smile.
10:03And seeing him laugh was even more heartwarming.
10:06She woke herself up.
10:14Oh, Christ.
10:15Was your smile bigger than Robin's?
