DHS Secretary speaks out after a New York City attack, criticizing sanctuary city policies and accusing sanctuary politicians of putting criminals ahead of law-abiding Americans. During the press conference, the DHS chief discussed ICE detainers, criminal records, immigration enforcement, and the stabbing of two NYPD officers.

00:00But I want to make it very clear. Sanctuary politicians, they create an environment for criminal activity to thrive, not
00:10for the American citizens to be safe.
00:12Underneath President Trump, he made it very clear he was going to restore law and order in our cities and
00:17our towns and in our states,
00:19despite what happens with career politicians that put criminals in front of law abiding citizens.
00:26When you have sanctuary cities and sanctuary politicians, you endanger the safety of the public.
00:35That's not a secret. That is exactly what takes place.
00:39And just for an example, in New York alone, since January 20th of 2025 to September of this year,
00:50we have leveled 14,766 detainers for the for the state of New York.
00:58These that means individuals that are locked up that have criminal extensive criminal backgrounds that the state of New York
01:07has in custody.
01:08We've asked for 14,766 detainers to be honored because these are illegals that should never be released back on
01:16the streets.
01:19Silence, absolute silence is what we've got from New York off of those retainers to give you a perspective.
01:26Those 14,766 detainers on criminals that are currently locked up, it represents 47,750 felony charges.
01:41So you have to ask yourself, why would they release these individuals back onto the streets?
01:47They're illegals. They should. They have no right to be back into the United States.
01:52They've committed a crime. We know that they're the worst, the worst.
01:56And through ICE and DHS, our men and women out there every day, we're enforcing our nation's laws.
02:05We're not picking and choosing which laws to enforce, like these sanctuary politicians.
02:11We're enforcing our nation's laws.
02:14Why is that controversial?
02:17Why would that be controversial?
02:19We should all want law and order on our streets.
02:23Here in a little bit, Marcos is going to lay out who this gentleman actually is.
02:30And keep in mind, just last week, two NYPD officers, the finest, and I mean that sincerely.
02:41The president has made this very clear.
02:44NYPD officers are some of the finest officers we have out there.
02:48Just last week, one was stabbed seven times by illegals.
02:57One that we had a detainer on that New York released.
03:01Both had extensive criminal backgrounds.
03:05Did the mayor of New York say anything about that?
03:10Did the individuals that's in the streets demanding justice for this criminal that we picked up yesterday?
03:19Did anybody come out for the officer that was stabbed seven times by these criminals?
03:25Not a word was said.
03:26Not a word was said by the mayor.
03:28Not a word was said by the governor.
03:30Not a word was said by the individuals that supposedly want justice on their streets.
03:34They're absolutely silent when an NYPD officer was stabbed seven times from known criminals that was released back on the
03:42streets by New York after we put a detainer on the individual.
03:47Their background, the individual's background.
03:52Just to give you a little bit of information on who the individuals were that stabbed the NYPD officers.
03:58One was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, unlawful fleeing from a police officer in a motor vehicle, possession of
04:05burglary tools, criminal possession of controlled substance, criminal possession of weapon involving a loaded firearm, and second-degree weapons charges.
04:15That's one, once again, once again, released back on the streets by New York.
04:20The second individual, criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglar tools, Grand Larson, and criminal possession of weapon.
04:28Once again, we had detainers, and they were released back on the streets.
04:34That was October of 2025.
04:37A year later, they almost took the life of NYPD officers.
04:43The outrage should be the same.
04:45If you actually want justice, you should want justice for actually everyone.
04:51It's shameful that you have a mayor that goes out there and puts criminals over law-abiding citizens.
04:57That's why today, in this press conference, I'm going to let Marcos Charles come up and tell you exactly who
05:05this individual is.
05:06Then I'll return back to the mic after that.
