A Roman military fort in Germany has revealed a surprising discovery.

Near Kapersburg, archaeologists uncovered a temple dedicated to Mars, the Roman god of war. The excavation also revealed dedication stones, a Victoria statuette and fragments of another statue that may depict Mars.

An auxiliary unit called the Numerus Nidensium was stationed at Kapersburg for roughly 150 years. The temple was located in the adjacent settlement, providing a glimpse into the religious world around this Roman frontier outpost.

This cinematic historical reconstruction explores what military life meant beyond the battlefield. πŸ›οΈβš”οΈ
