Two tiny Roman sling bullets may have helped archaeologists identify where a forgotten Roman military campaign took place.
Researchers working in the eastern Pyrenees discovered Roman military equipment at a suspected temporary camp, including sling bullets, Roman sandal studs, coins and brooches.
Two of the lead projectiles carried an inscription identified with Gnaeus Domitius Calvinus, the Roman commander associated with the conflict against the Ceretani in 39 BC.
The discovery gives archaeologists a rare chance to connect physical battlefield evidence with a specific historical event.
