01:00Thank you very much indeed, everybody. A very warm welcome to Pointless. How terrific it is to have you here.
01:04That just leaves one more person for me to introduce. Let's hope it's him tonight, not his understudy. It's my
01:09pointless friend, it's Michael Ball!
01:10Oh! Yes, it's me in person.
01:16The audible, can you ever hear, obviously you're not there, sorry, that's a really stupid question.
01:20No, but I know what you're saying. Yeah. But when you're on set and there is somebody who's a name
01:25and they haven't turned up. Yeah.
01:26Oh, gross. So the atmosphere for that poor person who's got to go and cover the role is, well, it's
01:33difficult. It's really difficult.
01:34I've been in shows where people have gone off and there isn't an understudy ready or a second cover and
01:41directors have come on with the book.
01:44Yeah, I've done that before.
01:46And in Phantom, I'd left Phantom and the part of Raoul, he was off, didn't have an understudy, didn't have
01:54a second cover.
01:55They phoned me up. Can you be here in a couple of hours and do it?
01:58Yes. Yes, I said yes. Of course I can.
02:00And I'll save the show for you. Amazing. It's brilliant doing something. I like doing stuff like that.
02:06Very, very good indeed. Well, Margaret and Alistair, by the way, got into the final last time and they only
02:11won the jackpot.
02:12So today's jackpot starts off back at £1,000, but it will grow very quickly.
02:15Right, if everyone's ready, let's play Pointers.
02:22Just worth remembering at all times that it's the pair with the highest score at the end of each round
02:26that gets eliminated.
02:27So keep your scores as low as you can. Best of luck to everybody.
02:30Our first category today is tall buildings.
02:34Can you all decide in your pairs who's going to go first, who's going to go second?
02:38And let us welcome the first player to the podium.
02:44Let us find out what the question is. Here it comes.
02:46We gave 100 people 100 seconds to name as many countries with skyscrapers as they could, Michael.
02:53Yet we're looking for any country that has at least one building that is 150 metres tall or higher,
03:00according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats list as of the end of June 2025.
03:08As always, by country, we mean a sovereign state that is a member of the UN in its own right.
03:14We're not including the UK on the list, but for reference, Blackpool Tower is 158 metres high.
03:21And there are 71 countries on the list.
03:24There we are.
03:26So 150 metres is the level that officially the sky can consider itself scraped.
03:31Yes, 150 metres above, you're scraping that sky.
03:35Thank you very much indeed.
03:36Right, Imran, welcome to Pointless.
03:38Thank you.
03:39Terrific to have you here.
03:40Tell us all about yourself.
03:42So I'm a pharmacist.
03:43I currently work as a medicines value pharmacist,
03:46which is basically just a fancy word for looking for the most cost-effective medicines in the NHS.
03:50I see.
03:51And when you're not trying to find the best value for money in medicines,
03:55what do you like to do?
03:57I love watching Pointless.
03:58Yes, this is the right answer.
04:00It's amazing how few people say that.
04:01It's an easy route to the final.
04:02You shall win.
04:05That's wonderful.
04:06Thank you.
04:06And when six o'clock comes round, which I'm afraid it does, what do you then do?
04:11Probably an attempt to make something decent in the kitchen.
04:15Very nice.
04:16Learn everything from my mum.
04:17That's very good.
04:18Are you always driving down prices in the kitchen as well?
04:21Always looking for the cheapest brand available.
04:24Yeah, very good.
04:25It just, you know, it goes.
04:26It's perfect.
04:26Now, what are you going to go for?
04:27We're looking for these countries.
04:2871 of them.
04:3071?
04:3071.
04:31And I would imagine there'll be a fair few pointless answers in there.
04:35I feel like I'm going to play it fairly safe.
04:38I know that this is one that was built quite recently.
04:41I think it's now the second highest.
04:43So I'm going to go for Malaysia.
04:45Malaysia, says Imran.
04:46Shall we see how many of our 100 said Malaysia?
04:51It's right.
04:5819 for Malaysia.
05:0019.
05:01319 skyscrapers.
05:02It's got the fourth most skyscrapers in the world.
05:04I mean, yeah.
05:05They've got the Patronus Towers, haven't they?
05:07Exactly that.
05:08And there are actually about three Blackpool Towers in height each.
05:13Wow.
05:13They've got 88 stories, and I've sung between them.
05:16Have you?
05:17On the millennium.
05:19Oh, really?
05:19Yeah.
05:19It's part of an official thing.
05:20Part of an official thing as midnight struck and the fireworks went off.
05:26Oh, my God.
05:26That's how you bring in...
05:28That's how you bring in...
05:29The century.
05:30Yeah.
05:30But three times the required...
05:32Three times that they're enormous.
05:33That's not scraping.
05:34That's a proper incision.
05:35That's going for it.
05:36That's right in the sky.
05:37Yeah.
05:38Amazing looking.
05:39Thank you very much indeed.
05:40Now then, Denise, welcome back to Pointe's.
05:42It's great to have you here for show two.
05:44Let's hear more about you, Denise.
05:46Well, my son performed in the West End for about 14, 15 years in all different shows.
05:51Really?
05:51So I spent my time going to see lots of shows.
05:54Did he ever share a stage?
05:56He did a film with Michael that day we sang.
06:00Victoria Wood film?
06:01Yeah, Victoria Wood film.
06:02Oh, it was the last thing Vic did.
06:04That's right.
06:05What was he in that?
06:06He was one of the dancers in it.
06:07What's his name?
06:08Richard.
06:10Richard the dancer.
06:11Richard the dancer.
06:12Oh, well, send in my best, won't you?
06:14Cool, too.
06:15Very good.
06:15Now, Denise, what are we thinking?
06:18I'm going to go for New Zealand.
06:21New Zealand, says Denise.
06:22Shall we see how many of our 100 said New Zealand?
06:26New Zealand is right.
06:33That goes down to five.
06:35Five for New Zealand.
06:36Yeah, they've got four skyscrapers in all.
06:38They're all about the same height as Blackpool Tower, and they've got a fifth one opening.
06:43That's a big day.
06:44Big day.
06:45That's exciting.
06:45New Zealand will have five skyscrapers.
06:47Amazing.
06:47Thank you very much indeed.
06:50Niamh, welcome to Binders.
06:51It's great to have you here.
06:52Tell us all about yourself, Niamh.
06:53So I'm currently studying business in Glasgow at college.
06:57I'm in my final year, going to get my degree, and in my spare time, I like to watch wrestling,
07:03like to go to wrestling events.
07:05How long have you been following the wrestling?
07:07Probably since I was about seven, eight.
07:09Really?
07:10Yeah, that long.
07:11That's amazing.
07:12It's really enjoying a revival, isn't it, wrestling?
07:15Yeah, definitely.
07:16Everyone's getting mad keen on wrestling suddenly.
07:19Niamh, what are you going to go for?
07:20We are looking for any country with at least one building that is 150 metres tall, or taller.
07:26I'm going to take an educated guess, I hope, and say Azerbaijan.
07:31Azerbaijan.
07:32Thank you very much.
07:33I thought it was about time we tried to go for some pointless answers.
07:35Let's see.
07:36Azerbaijan.
07:37Is that right?
07:40Azerbaijan is right.
07:41Well, 19 is our high score, 5 is our low.
07:44We pass the high score.
07:46We pass the low.
07:47There we are.
07:47That's exactly where I hoped we'd end up.
07:49Very well done indeed, Niamh.
07:50That is a pointless answer.
07:51It adds £250 to the jackpot, takes the total up to £1,250, and it scores you nothing and
07:57earns you our undying respect.
07:59So very well done.
08:00That's how you play the game, Niamh.
08:01Yes.
08:02There are eight skyscrapers in Azerbaijan.
08:04They're all in Baku, which is the capital.
08:08And the Ministry of Taxes has got one of them.
08:12It's about 10 metres higher than the Blackpool Tower.
08:15There we are.
08:16The Ministry of Taxes.
08:17The Ministry of Taxes.
08:18Taxes.
08:18Taxes.
08:19Not taxis.
08:19There's no Ministry of Taxes yet.
08:21No, no, no.
08:21No taxes.
08:22Thank you very much indeed.
08:23Now, Jay, welcome back to Pointless.
08:25This is your third and final time on the programme.
08:27Yes.
08:28We must hear more about you.
08:29We've heard about your film.
08:31But tell us more.
08:32We've heard about also your, you are a dungeon master.
08:34I am a dungeon master.
08:36Proud and true.
08:37Yes.
08:37But beyond all that, I'm also a big sort of puzzle head.
08:42Hence, I'm on Pointless.
08:44Yes.
08:44And I like making my own sort of like escape rooms.
08:48So for Devon's, I think birthday last year, I turned our flat into an escape room.
08:53An escape room.
08:53Which was very shoddily done.
08:54But it was done with a lot of heart and that's all that matters.
08:57That's all that matters.
08:59But presumably you had to send Devon away while you did it or?
09:02My one was done just in the flat and you just had to get out the flat.
09:07But Devon did one in return for me where he went all around Manchester solving clues
09:12and looking at landmarks and doing like so just outdone me in every way.
09:16So you'll have to do it next time, I don't know, the...
09:19We're planning a big project.
09:20West Midlands or something.
09:21Yeah, exactly.
09:22Perfect.
09:23Jay, what are you going to go for?
09:24I think I'm just going to have to go with my first instinct.
09:29It might get us out pretty early, but who knows.
09:31I'm going to go for the United Arab Emirates.
09:33The United Arab Emirates, says Jay.
09:35Let's see how many of our 100 said that.
09:39United Arab Emirates is right.
09:43Well, 19 is still...
09:44Oh, that was our high school.
09:4624 for the UAE.
09:48Yeah, they've got 345 skyscrapers.
09:52Third most in the world.
09:53And of course, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is currently the tallest building in the world.
10:00A little over 820 metres, five and a quarter Blackpool Towers, 160 storeys, and the observation deck is on the
10:09148th.
10:11It's an extraordinary building.
10:13It is.
10:14And they do that amazing fountain display.
10:15Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:17The foot of it.
10:17Yeah.
10:18Unbelievable building.
10:19Very exciting.
10:19And again, New Year, they have these extraordinary fireworks coming off it.
10:23Have you sung beneath them?
10:24No, I haven't.
10:25High time.
10:26Back time, isn't it?
10:27Yeah, I think so.
10:28Yeah.
10:28I should make a habit of this.
10:29I think you absolutely must do.
10:31Thank you very much indeed.
10:32We're halfway through the round.
10:32Let's have a quick look at those scores.
10:33Nothing.
10:34Very well done indeed.
10:35Niamh was the best score of the pass.
10:36We travel from nothing up to five, where we find Denise and Carl, from there to Imran and Youssef on
10:4119, and up from there to 24, where Jay and Devon currently reside.
10:46I mean, you're not too far ahead, Devon, but a lovely low score will keep you in the game, let's
10:51hope.
10:51Good luck with that.
10:51We're going to come back down the line.
10:52Let's welcome the second players to the podium.
10:58There we are.
10:58Devon, welcome back.
11:00Thank you.
11:00Welcome back.
11:01This is your third and final chance to tell us more about yourself, Devon.
11:05As well as crocheting and drawing, my other hobby includes roller skating, and I used to be part of a
11:10roller derby team as well.
11:12Do you favour the skate with the four wheels?
11:13Yes.
11:14Or rather than, not the blading, but the old-fashioned, the old-fashioned quad, they're called quads.
11:19We've all learned that.
11:20Yeah.
11:21That's good.
11:21And I have seen people dancing in roller skates.
11:25Have you been tempted yet to...
11:27I can do like a 180 spin, and that's about it for my dance moves.
11:31I'd say that's good enough, 180 spin.
11:33Now, Devon, you are on 24.
11:34You're the high scorers.
11:35Shall we see if we can find a very, very low-scoring country with at least one building of 150
11:40metres or taller?
11:42I'm going to be inspired by Jay and do a fairly risky one, and I'm going to say Bahrain.
11:50Bahrain.
11:51Bahrain, says Devon.
11:52Shall we see how many of our 100 said that?
11:54You don't get a red line because you're high scorers at the moment.
11:59Bahrain is right.
12:00Bahrain is right.
12:04This is very good, Devon.
12:06This is very good indeed.
12:06Down to two.
12:07It's exactly what we needed.
12:08Taking your total up to 26.
12:09Brilliant.
12:10Yeah, they've got 19 skyscrapers, and the tallest building is a hotel built on a private island,
12:17and it's a little over one and a half Blackpool Towers.
12:20Okay.
12:21There we are.
12:22That's nice.
12:23Why not?
12:23That's a nice height.
12:24Yeah.
12:24That's a nice height.
12:25Sensible.
12:25Yeah.
12:26Thank you very much.
12:26Indeed.
12:27Now, Lesley-Anne, welcome to Point.
12:28This is lovely to have you here.
12:29Tell us all about yourself.
12:30Yeah, I'm Lesley-Anne, and I'm a DJ and karaoke presenter.
12:34I've been doing that since I was 19.
12:36Really?
12:37Yeah, for a long time.
12:38I've heard a lot of karaoke.
12:40That is extraordinary.
12:41Yeah, you've heard it all.
12:42Yeah, I've heard it all.
12:43Do you ever take the microphone yourself?
12:45Yeah, I do a bit of singing.
12:46I've actually sang for rave music in the past and had songs released and been a vocalist
12:52for rave music.
12:53That's fun.
12:54Like a session vocalist?
12:55Yeah, and I write lyrics and so on.
12:57Good.
12:58It's so different from what I do with my karaoke.
13:01Yeah.
13:02Fun, though.
13:02What's your go-to karaoke track?
13:05Oh, I tend to sing a lot.
13:07It depends on the audience.
13:08But I'm just being really lazy and just shoving something on.
13:10It's usually perfect by Fairground Attaction, something like that.
13:13Very good.
13:14Very good.
13:15Now, Lesley-Anne, you're on nothing.
13:16We need a score of 25 or less to get you into round two.
13:19But we need a score of pointless, really, to equal Niamh.
13:24Well, I'm not very sure, but I've got two of mine.
13:27And I know that one might be quite obvious.
13:29And the other one I'm not very sure about at all.
13:31But I'm going to go with it.
13:32Just fingers crossed.
13:34I'm going to say South Korea.
13:36South Korea, says Lesley-Anne.
13:38Here is your red line.
13:39Can we get you below that with South Korea?
13:44South Korea is absolutely right.
13:48And you're in round two.
13:49And it goes down to 12.
13:50Very well done indeed.
13:52Yeah, they've got 281 skyscrapers.
13:55The Lott World Tower in Seoul is three and a half Blackpool Towers high.
13:59The 118th floor has a glass floor.
14:02You wouldn't like that.
14:03No.
14:03And the 120th has an open air space.
14:07And Gordon Ramsay has got a burger restaurant there.
14:11And what's your karaoke go-to?
14:13It's Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong with my wife.
14:17Wow.
14:17Haven't sung that for a long time.
14:18Nice.
14:19But, yeah, it's fun.
14:20I sing that with Alfie Bow.
14:22Do you really?
14:22Yes.
14:23That's nice.
14:24I wonder if you do the same harmonies that we've made.
14:25Yeah, I would imagine so.
14:26Probably.
14:27We're not original.
14:29Marvellous.
14:30That's lovely.
14:30Thank you very much indeed.
14:32Now, Carl, welcome back.
14:33Great to have you with us again.
14:34Let's hear more about you, Carl.
14:37Well, obviously, I said I'm retired, but I do enjoy gardening.
14:41And in my garden, I've obviously got a feeding station for the birds.
14:45Yes.
14:46A wildlife pond, which I get a big buzz out of frogs and noots.
14:49Very nice.
14:50Frogs and noots.
14:51Yeah.
14:51We get so heartbreakers.
14:53We always have masses and masses of frogs spawn every year.
14:55Yeah.
14:55And then all the birds come, I don't know, they disappear anyway.
14:59Hardly any frogs come from them.
15:01Oh, I try to do a little bit of a conservationist.
15:04I try to protect them so at least they turn into miniature frogs.
15:08Oh, well, that's good.
15:08So what do you do?
15:09What's the secret?
15:10Well, first of all, I put some fishing line round my pond.
15:13That's what we need to do.
15:13Which stops them, especially the herons, getting in.
15:17A bit of net sometimes.
15:18A bit of net.
15:19Just for giving them a chance to hatch.
15:21That's a very good idea.
15:22We'll do the netting this year.
15:23Karl, you're on five.
15:2520 or less gets you into the next round.
15:28Well, I'm going to try North Korea.
15:31North Korea.
15:32Yes.
15:33North Korea.
15:34Here's your red line.
15:35Let's see if we can get you below that with North Korea.
15:38It's absolutely right.
15:41Well, South Korea scored 12.
15:44North Korea scores one.
15:46Look at that.
15:46Very well done indeed, Karl.
15:47That's superb.
15:48I thought that was going to go all the way down for a moment.
15:50But six is your total.
15:51Yeah, they've got 18 skyscrapers.
15:53The country's tallest building.
15:54It's a residential block of 80 floors in Pyongyang.
15:58It's actually about 100 metres taller than the Blackpool Tower.
16:01There we are.
16:02Thank you very much.
16:03Now then, Yusuf, welcome to Pointless.
16:04It's good to have you here.
16:05Tell us all about yourself, Yusuf.
16:07I'm a GP in East London.
16:10And when I'm not being a GP,
16:12I'm looking after my almost one-year-old daughter
16:14and chasing after her.
16:16Very lovely.
16:16What is your almost one-year-old daughter called?
16:18Hannah.
16:19Hannah.
16:20Hi, Hannah.
16:21Very good indeed.
16:22And, yeah, I mean, do you get a lot of time
16:24when you're not GP-ing and not chasing after Hannah?
16:27I suppose you can take Hannah with you wherever you go.
16:30Yeah, that's it.
16:31You can't really concentrate very well on any hobbies you try to do.
16:34One eyeball is kind of just watching.
16:37Yeah, no, that's true.
16:37Weird and wonderful things she's trying to eat a little bit.
16:39Yeah, no, I see what you mean.
16:40Yeah.
16:41Now, 19 is your score at the moment, Yusuf.
16:43Six or less is what we need.
16:45Yeah, I think you have to be a little bit bold.
16:48I was probably going to stick with the Middle Eastern theme
16:51and go with Saudi Arabia.
16:52Saudi Arabia, says Yusuf.
16:54You get a red line.
16:55It's very low.
16:57Saudi Arabia?
16:58Let's see.
17:00Definitely right.
17:07Oh, eight for Saudi Arabia, taking up to 27.
17:11Yeah, they've got 46 skyscrapers.
17:14The Royal Clock Tower in Mecca is over 600 metres,
17:18almost four Blackpool Towers.
17:19And as of the time of recording,
17:22there's a residential skyscraper under construction in Jeddah,
17:26which, when it's finished, will be over 1,000 metres.
17:30So that's 167 floors.
17:33That's a long way up.
17:34That's a long way up.
17:35To get you flat.
17:36Presumably, you get in, think, oh, I'm home,
17:38and then you have to get the lift.
17:39It's a bit like getting on the tube.
17:40Imagine if the lift was broken.
17:41Oh, the lift was broken.
17:42Oh, and you've got all your shopping
17:44and you've got to go up 167 floors.
17:47Oh, it'd be so annoying.
17:48There are, in fact, 30 pointless answers here,
17:51so let's have a look at some of them.
17:52We have Bangladesh, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia,
17:58and Kuwait, Norway, Panama,
18:02Slovakia, Uruguay, and Vietnam.
18:04And well done at home if you've got any of those.
18:07Thank you very much indeed, Michael.
18:08That brings us to the end of our first round,
18:10and it means we have to say goodbye to Yusuf and Imran,
18:12who are our high scorers.
18:13Not by much, but you are our high scorers.
18:16We'll see you next time.
18:17Look forward to it.
18:17Thanks so much, Yusuf and Imran.
18:20For the remaining three pairs, though,
18:21it is now time for round two.
18:28Very well done, everybody.
18:30A terrific round one.
18:31You've all acquitted yourselves immaculately.
18:34Karl and Denise, our lowest combined scorers.
18:37Niamh, our lowest individual scorer.
18:40Very well done.
18:40And you managed to add 250 quid to the jackpot,
18:42so terrific work.
18:43And also, Jay and Devon.
18:46You're here.
18:47You're still here.
18:47You're still here.
18:47All is well.
18:49Best of luck to everybody.
18:50Our category for round two today is musical theatre.
18:54Can you all decide in your pairs who's going to go first,
18:57who's going to go second?
18:58Yeah.
18:58And let us welcome the first players to the podium.
19:04And the question concerns musicals and the songs that end Act One.
19:11Yes, I like this round.
19:14On each board, we're going to show you six song titles
19:16for musical theatre productions that are all the last number of Act One.
19:21Usually, it's a banger.
19:23We've added the initials of the musical and the year it first appeared in London's West End
19:28as additional clues for you.
19:31Just give us the best answer.
19:33Amazing.
19:34Yeah.
19:34OK, let us reveal our first board of clues for these songs that end Act One.
19:40Climb Every Mountain, T-S-O-M, 1961.
19:44One Day More, L-M, 1985.
19:47Hakuna Matata, T-L-K, 1999.
19:51Take Me To Heaven, S-A, 2009.
19:54Everybody Say Yeah, K-B, 2015.
19:58And Non Stop, H, 2017.
20:03There we are.
20:05Denise, we come to you first.
20:10Um, I'm going to go four, because it's one of my favourite musicals.
20:17One Day More, Les Mis.
20:19Les Miserables.
20:20Shall we see how many of our 100 people said that?
20:22Les Mis.
20:29There, absolutely right.
20:30One Day More goes down to 32.
20:32Very well done indeed, Denise.
20:33Yes, of course it is.
20:35And in the French version, it's known as Demain, Tomorrow.
20:38And you tell me a better end of Act One.
20:41Oh, it's a cliffhanger as well.
20:42It's just amazing.
20:43It's everything.
20:44It's a great song.
20:45Every character, every storyline.
20:46Brilliant.
20:47There they all are.
20:48Yeah.
20:48Amazing.
20:49Yeah.
20:49So this is big.
20:50Because obviously they also talk about the 11 o'clock number, don't they, as well?
20:53That's what you want.
20:54You want the 11 o'clock number, usually a power ballad, heartfelt.
20:58Yeah.
20:58Is it all going to go wrong?
21:00Yeah.
21:00And no, it doesn't.
21:02Great.
21:02I love musicals so much.
21:05And they love you, Michael.
21:06Oh, thank you, Xander.
21:08There we are.
21:09Now, Lesley-Anne.
21:11Yeah.
21:12It's quite hard.
21:13There's one that I think looks like something, but I don't think it is by the year.
21:18So I'm going to have to go to something quite obvious and say Hakuna Matata, The Lion King.
21:25The Lion King, says Lesley-Anne for Hakuna Matata.
21:27How many of our 100 said that?
21:30The Lion King is right.
21:3232 is the only score we have.
21:33Oh, there's 59 for The Lion King.
21:37Yeah, it's a Swahili phrase that means no worries.
21:40And Timmer and Pumba sing it in the show to Simba.
21:45Marvellous.
21:45Yeah.
21:46Thank you very much indeed, Michael.
21:47Now then, Jay, is this a good round for you?
21:51Not really, and my apologies to Michael.
21:54No, it's okay.
21:54Okay, would you like to talk us through as much of the board as you can?
21:57I only really know two confidently.
22:00I think Climb of Re Mountain is The Sound of Music, but I want to go for Non-Stop from
22:08Hamilton.
22:10Hamilton, Hamilton, says Jay for Non-Stop.
22:12How many of our 100 said that?
22:17Hamilton is right.
22:22That's a great answer.
22:2313.
22:24Very well done indeed, Jay.
22:25Yeah, Lin-Manuel Miranda spent something like seven years writing it,
22:30and he would share the drafts with Stephen Sondheim, who just loved it, said it was absolutely thrilling.
22:37Really?
22:37And that style was going to be the future.
22:39What an amazing mentor to have.
22:41I know, I know, incredible.
22:42Wow.
22:43Yeah, shall we go through?
22:44Yes.
22:45I've been in a musical.
22:46I was in The Sound of Music.
22:47You were.
22:48You were Max.
22:49Oh, I was Max.
22:50On the telly live.
22:50Uncle Max on the telly live.
22:52Absolutely.
22:53There we are.
22:53That would have got you 53.
22:54Nice.
22:55Next one, Dan.
22:56Take Me to Heaven is Sister Act.
22:59It is.
22:59It is.
22:59The clues in the song.
23:00Yeah, that would have got you 11.
23:01And finally, great show.
23:03Can everybody say yeah?
23:04K-B.
23:05Kinky Boots.
23:06Kinky Boots is the right answer, and that would have got you 12.
23:10Marvellous.
23:10Some good shows up there.
23:12There we are.
23:12Thank you very much indeed.
23:13OK, we are halfway through the round.
23:15Let's have a quick look at those scores.
23:1613 is the best score of the past.
23:17Very well done indeed, Jay and Devon.
23:1932 is where we find Denise and Carl.
23:21And 59 is where we find Lesley and Niamh.
23:24So, yes, you're a little bit ahead there.
23:26Niamh, you're pretty good on musicals, aren't you?
23:29I'm not sure.
23:31Let's find out in the next part.
23:32We're going to come back down now.
23:33Let's welcome the second players to the podium.
23:38OK, let's put six more songs which feature at the end of Act 1 of musicals on the board.
23:43And here they are.
23:44We have I'm the Bravest Individual, SC, 1967.
23:481967, A New Argentina, E, 1978, Voulez-vous, MM, 1999, So Much Better, LB, 2010, Man Up, T-B-O
23:58-M, 2013, and Let It Go, F, 2021.
24:04There we are, Devon.
24:06On 13, so 45 or less gets you into the head-to-head.
24:10Yeah, I'm struggling with some of these.
24:13I've got two, but I think they're pretty safe.
24:18I'm going to have to go for an obvious one and do Let It Go from Frozen.
24:24OK, Frozen says Devon for Let It Go.
24:27Here is your red line.
24:28Can we get you close to or below that with Frozen?
24:33Frozen's right.
24:35Not bad.
24:36Not bad at all.
24:3757 takes your total up to 70.
24:39Yeah, of course, it's sung by Elsa and in the live version on stage, she does this extraordinary mid-song
24:48transformation into the silver frock.
24:51And the crew are literally pulling off her outer clothing underneath and through the stage, all held together.
24:59Go on YouTube.
25:00There are some extraordinary clips of it happening.
25:02One of the fastest changes on stage.
25:04Wow.
25:05It's a great transformation.
25:06Amazing.
25:06Thank you very much indeed.
25:08Now then, Niamh, you are on 59.
25:11We need a score of 10 or less from you at this stage.
25:14What do we think?
25:15These are not my strong point.
25:19I think this is probably wrong, but I'm going to have to go with Voulez-vous and say Mamma Mia.
25:23You're going to say Mamma Mia for Voulez-vous.
25:25Here is your red line.
25:28Mamma Mia for Voulez-vous is right.
25:3248 for Mamma Mia for Voulez-vous.
25:35Taking your total up to 170.
25:36Yeah, we all know Mamma Mia.
25:38Set on a Greek island.
25:40Three possible dads to Sophie.
25:43Voulez-vous is performed at the hen party.
25:46And by the end of the song, all three of Sophie's dads have said they will walk her down the
25:50aisle.
25:51Thank you very much.
25:52Indeed.
25:52Now, Carl, you're on 32.
25:5574 or less gets you into the head-to-head.
25:58Would you like to talk us through that board?
26:00I know the Argentinian one of Eater.
26:03I think I'll go for Manuk, please, the Book of Mormon.
26:06The Book of Mormon says, Carl, here is your red line.
26:08That's a great answer.
26:09Can we get you below that with the Book of Mormon?
26:13It's right.
26:14And it gets you straight through to the head-to-head.
26:17It's a great answer, though, Carl.
26:19Down against the 12.
26:20Very well done indeed.
26:21Taking your total up to 44.
26:23Yeah, sung by Elder Cunningham.
26:25I love the programme that you get on Broadway.
26:28At the very back, there's an advert from the Mormon church saying,
26:32you've seen the musical, now read the book.
26:36It's a great show, though.
26:38Let's go through them.
26:39OK.
26:39Well, Evita, we've had.
26:41Carl's given us that.
26:42That was 59.
26:44Go for so much better.
26:45So much better.
26:46It's going to annoy me.
26:48It is.
26:48Shall I give it to you?
26:49Legally Blonde.
26:50Oh, for goodness sake, of course it is.
26:51Legally Blonde scored eight.
26:52And I'm thinking you might get the top one.
26:56Has it been?
26:58Bob Fosse choreographed it.
27:01Big Spender is in it.
27:02Rhythm of Life.
27:03Sweet Charity.
27:04Sweet Charity.
27:05Yes.
27:06That would have got you 10.
27:07There we go.
27:07Thank you very much indeed.
27:09Well, that brings us to the end of our second round.
27:11And it means we say goodbye to Lesley-Anne and Niamh.
27:13It's only been your first show.
27:14You've done very well.
27:15We'll see you again next time.
27:16And we can take it one step further, I think, then.
27:18But thank you so much, Lesley-Anne and Niamh.
27:21But for our two remaining pairs, it is now time for the head-to-head.
27:29Congratulations, Carl and Denise, Jay and Devon.
27:32You are now one step closer to the final and a chance to play for our jackpot,
27:35which currently stands at £1,250.
27:39But we now have a chance to put some more money into that jackpot
27:42by seeing if we can find a couple of pointless answers.
27:45So here goes, just for fun.
27:47We gave 100 people 100 seconds to name as many logical fallacies as they could, Michael.
27:55Yes.
27:55Now, a logical fallacy is an error in reasoning
27:59that makes an argument invalid or deceptive,
28:02often by introducing irrelevant points or misleading evidence
28:06to support an unsupported conclusion.
28:09You're going to see six options.
28:11Two are scoring.
28:12Two are pointless.
28:14Two are not the names of logical fallacies at all.
28:18And, of course, £250 into the jackpot
28:21if you get the pointless answers.
28:23Best of luck.
28:24There we are. Thank you very much indeed.
28:25So can you spot the two pointless logical fallacies from this board?
28:31Slippery Slope, Alphabet Soup, Breakfast in America,
28:36Moving the Goalposts, Red Herring, One False Welshman.
28:43Mmm.
28:44Don't one have any thoughts on this?
28:46I don't think much.
28:47I know that these are definitely names of things.
28:50I've no idea what they're logical fallacies on us.
28:53Breakfast in America, that's a song, isn't it,
28:57by Supertramp, Breakfast in America, yeah.
29:00It could be a logical...
29:01I don't know, I don't know.
29:02Moving the Goalposts.
29:02So, Carl and Denise, what would you like to nominate?
29:05I've been so good at all, yeah.
29:07Just go one false Welshman, just because I think it sounds wrong.
29:11OK, we'll go for one false Welshman.
29:12I think one false Welshman, surely.
29:14Let's see, is that a pointless logical fallacy?
29:17One false Welshman.
29:19Oh, no!
29:22There we are.
29:23We've been double bluffed.
29:25Jay and Devon, what are you going to nominate?
29:27What shall we nominate?
29:28Shall we go for alphabet soup?
29:30Because that's fun, isn't it?
29:32I think just on the basis of it's a fun thing to say, alphabet soup.
29:35Alphabet soup.
29:36Is that a pointless logical fallacy?
29:41It's a logical fallacy.
29:47And it's a pointless one.
29:49Very well done indeed.
29:50Fun to say.
29:51And valuable.
29:53Yeah, it's the deliberate using of obscure acronyms and abbreviations
29:57to appear more knowledgeable in a subject
29:59or to confuse other people.
30:01One false Welshman.
30:03It's a red herring.
30:04There's a logical fallacy called no true Scotsman,
30:08but there is no one false Welshman.
30:11Come on, Xander.
30:12Well, a red herring is going to be a point scorer.
30:15Yeah, red herring will score you seven.
30:16It's attempting to shift focus by introducing an irrelevant point.
30:20Slippery slope.
30:22That's going to score points.
30:24It was eight.
30:25And that's claiming that increasingly worse events
30:28will follow from this starting point.
30:30So moving the goalposts is a pointless answer.
30:33And then Breakfast in America is a red herring.
30:35You're absolutely right.
30:37Moving the goalposts,
30:38constantly asking an opponent to address more and more points
30:42instead of accepting the arguments.
30:43Breakfast in America is the red herring.
30:47Carl was right.
30:48Supertramp's album Breakfast in America
30:50contained their hit, the logical song.
30:53Thank you very much indeed.
30:54And well done.
30:54You managed to find one point as answer,
30:56which means we can add £250 to the jackpot
30:58and it now therefore stands at £1,500.
31:02But who will be playing for it?
31:03Well, we'll find that out in the head to head.
31:10Now, the first pair to win two questions
31:11will be playing for that jackpot.
31:12You are now allowed to confer before you give your answers.
31:15Best of luck to everybody.
31:16Our first question is all about Countryfile presenters.
31:21Yeah, we're going to show you five people
31:23who presented or hosted the BBC One series Countryfile.
31:26We've added their initials as well.
31:28Please just tell us the name of a person
31:30that you think the fewest of our 100 people recognised.
31:35Thank you very much indeed.
31:36OK, well, let's reveal our five Countryfile presenters
31:39and here they are.
31:40We have A, AR.
31:43We have A, AR.
31:46B, BF.
31:51C, SF.
31:58D, MS.
32:05And E, E, H.
32:11There we are.
32:12Five Countryfile presenters.
32:14Carl and Denise, we will come to you first.
32:17I'm going to go for Mikaela Strachan.
32:18Gordon.
32:19You say that.
32:20We're going to go for Mikaela Strachan, please.
32:22You're going to go for Mikaela Strachan for D.
32:25Now then, Jay and Devon, would you like to talk us through that board?
32:29Would you like to talk us through that board?
32:31I only know two and I can't remember the name of the Miss A.
32:36I think it's, is it Anita?
32:38Yeah, but do you know the, is it Anita or Ronnie?
32:40I can't remember what her first name is.
32:42Who do you, who's B?
32:43Who do you think B is?
32:43B is Ben Fogel.
32:45Who would you like to go for?
32:46I'm fully leaving this up to you.
32:48I think we'll go for Ben Fogel, because it's the only one I'm confident in.
32:50OK, you're going to go for Ben Fogel.
32:52So we have Mikaela Strachan and we have Ben Fogel.
32:55Carl and Denise went for Mikaela Strachan for D.
32:58Shall we see how many of our 100 said that?
33:03Mikaela Strachan is right.
33:07That goes down to 24.
33:10Meanwhile, Jay and Devin are going for Ben Fogel.
33:13For B, let's see how many of our 100 said Ben Fogel.
33:19Ben Fogel is right.
33:2433 for Ben Fogel.
33:25Very well done indeed.
33:26Carl and Denise, after one question, you're up 1-0.
33:29Yeah, if you'd said Anita or Ronnie, you'd have been right,
33:32but it was still 28, so you wouldn't have got the point.
33:36C, any idea?
33:38That is Sean Fletcher.
33:39He's been on the show.
33:40He scored us eight.
33:42And finally, E was Ellie Harrison, and that was scored you six.
33:47Thank you very much indeed.
33:49Right, here is your second question, Jay and Devin.
33:51You get to answer it first, but you've got to win this one.
33:53Stay in the games.
33:54Good luck.
33:54Our second question is all about...
33:58250 years of Jane Austen.
34:00Yeah, 2025 was the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth,
34:05and to celebrate, we're going to give you five clues about her.
34:09The initials of the answers are also included.
34:12Just give us your best answer.
34:14Thank you very much indeed.
34:15OK, let's reveal our Jane Austen clues, and here they come.
34:19Name of her older sister, C.
34:22Value in pounds of the Bank of England banknote
34:25that has featured her portrait since 2017, T.
34:29Actor who played Elizabeth Bennet in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice, KK.
34:342025 BBC series celebrating her life,
34:37narrated by Juliette Stevenson, ROAG.
34:41G, and regnal name of the British monarch during her lifetime, G.
34:47There we are.
34:48Jay and Devin will go first.
34:50What are you thinking?
34:51I don't know any of the others.
34:52I know the...
34:53I mean, I know the banknote.
34:55I know the actor, but I feel like they're going to be pretty high.
34:59I think I know the monarch.
35:01Like, I can have a good guess at the monarch, but, like...
35:04Yeah.
35:04Do you want to...
35:05Yeah, go for it.
35:06I think, for the monarch, I want to go...
35:09George.
35:11You're going to say George, for the monarch,
35:13the regnal name of the British monarch in her lifetime, George.
35:16Now, Carl and Denise, could you talk us through that board?
35:20I think the banknote might be the £20.
35:24But I think...
35:26I'd guess that her sister's name's Catherine,
35:29but I think we're going to go for Keira Knightley.
35:31OK.
35:32Actor.
35:32Keira Knightley.
35:33So we have George and we have Keira Knightley.
35:35In the order they were given,
35:37Jay and Devon went for George, the monarch.
35:42George is right.
35:4657 for George.
35:49Meanwhile, Carl and Denise are going for Keira Knightley,
35:51the actress who played Elizabeth Bennet.
35:53Let's see how many of our 100 said Keira Knightley.
35:57Keira Knightley is right.
36:00And it wins it for you.
36:01Very well done indeed.
36:02That goes down to 37, and it means, Carl and Denise,
36:05after only two questions, you are through to the final 2-0.
36:08Yeah, it's actually the £10 note that she's on.
36:12And that scored 63.
36:14And her sister isn't called Catherine.
36:16She's called?
36:17Charlotte.
36:18Cassandra.
36:19Cassandra.
36:19Cassandra.
36:20There we are.
36:20And that scored 14.
36:23And the lowest scoring is Rise of A Genius.
36:26And that would have scored you four.
36:27Thank you very much indeed, Michael.
36:29That brings us to the end of our head-to-head round.
36:31And it means we say goodbye, Jay and Devon.
36:33This is a final farewell.
36:35It's been great having you on the show.
36:36It's been lovely being here.
36:37Thank you.
36:37Well, thank you so much for coming to play.
36:39And I'm sorry we're not sending you home with trophies.
36:41But there we are.
36:41Jay and Devon.
36:42Brilliant.
36:43For Carl and Denise, though, time for the Pointless final.
36:50Huge congratulations, Carl and Denise.
36:52You've fought off all the competition
36:54and you have won our coveted Pointless trophy.
36:57Thank you.
37:03That's all I came for.
37:05It's all I came for and I didn't get one.
37:08Oh, it's still...
37:09I am bitter.
37:10Still...
37:11Yes.
37:11Yeah.
37:11Yes.
37:12Oh, that rankles.
37:14You now have the chance to win the Pointless jackpot.
37:18And at the end of today's show,
37:18the jackpot is standing at £1,500.
37:22You've done brilliantly.
37:24We just need a pointless answer from you
37:26and you can take that jackpot away with you.
37:28What do you want to see come up?
37:29For me, I'd love 60s or 70s music.
37:33Mmm.
37:34Sport, football.
37:36Yeah.
37:37Well, it's football.
37:39Well, we know we won't have musicals again.
37:41Will we, because that's all we've been able to say.
37:42Well, let's see.
37:43You never know.
37:44There'll be four things on the board.
37:46Let's hope one of them, at least, appeals.
37:49Greek cinema, children's book illustrators,
37:52E and OO songs,
37:55and TV series starring Jason Bateman.
37:57It's got to be, isn't it?
37:59Yeah.
38:00It's got to be.
38:00It's got to be the E and the OO songs.
38:02It's got to be the E's and the OO's.
38:03Yeah, yeah.
38:03Surely.
38:03E's and OO's.
38:04E's and O's.
38:05Right.
38:06We're looking for the name of any artist or act
38:09that has had a UK number one single
38:12which contains a double E
38:15or a double O anywhere in its title.
38:18This is up to the beginning of August 2025,
38:21according to the officialcharts.com.
38:24Collaborations count as long as the artist or band
38:26were a named, featured artist,
38:28and we will accept both of those acts as separate answers.
38:33Best of luck with that.
38:34Thank you very much, Michael.
38:35Now, as always, you've got up to one minute
38:36to come up with three answers.
38:38All you need to win that jackpot
38:39is for just one of those answers to be pointless.
38:41If you can find three pointless answers,
38:43we will throw in a £500 bonus.
38:46Let's put 60 seconds up on the clock.
38:48There they are.
38:48Your time starts now.
38:50What about three steps to heaven, Vaughn Maud?
38:53I'm sure it was Maud, three steps to heaven.
38:54It's got to have E and the titles together, that.
38:57So, like, ooh, I, just a little bit, ooh.
39:00You can go for that one.
39:01But it's got to have, it can't have three E's.
39:04There's something like V, it's got to be in it, or C, V, E.
39:07Well, three E's, isn't it?
39:09Not together, not consecutive.
39:11Ah.
39:11It's such to happen, isn't it?
39:13Ooh, I, just a little bit, who sang that?
39:16Was it, um...
39:17Hang on, no, for all if you think,
39:20not for all if you think it's like, but, um...
39:24I don't know.
39:27Oh, blank.
39:29Keep on running.
39:31Yeah, that's good, no.
39:32We sang that Keep on Running, sang that.
39:36Um...
39:37Mm.
39:38Mine, blank.
39:40Ten seconds left.
39:41I'm just going to go for artists,
39:42and then I'm just going to guess three artists.
39:44Which category?
39:46Keep on Running, sang that.
39:49I think it was the animals.
39:50OK, that is your time up.
39:52Let's have your three answers.
39:54Tom?
39:55Can we go with the E's or the O's?
39:56The E's.
39:57We're going for the E's.
39:58The animals.
39:59The animals.
40:00Mud.
40:01Mud.
40:02And...
40:04Slade.
40:04And Slade.
40:05And these are all from the first category, the E's.
40:09Yes, please.
40:10OK.
40:10Of those three, which is your best shot at a pointless answer?
40:13I think we go for Slade first.
40:14OK, Slade is your best shot, so we'll put that last.
40:16Least likely to be pointless?
40:18Mud.
40:19Mud we'll put first, and then animals goes in the middle.
40:22OK, let's put those answers up on the board in that order,
40:24and here they are.
40:25We have Mud, the animals, and Slade.
40:29Now, if one of these is pointless,
40:31you will be leaving here with £1,500.
40:34What would you like to do with that?
40:36Holiday?
40:36Well, towards a holiday.
40:38Yeah, towards a nice holiday.
40:39Yeah.
40:40OK, perfect.
40:40Well, let's hope one of these does it for you.
40:42Mud is your first answer.
40:44In all three cases, we're looking for artists
40:46who had UK number one singles with a double E somewhere in the title.
40:49Mud is your first answer.
40:51How many of our 100 said it?
40:55Well, he's right.
40:56If mud goes all the way down to zero,
40:57you leave here with £1,500.
41:00Mud.
41:01Three Steps to Heaven is the song you had in mind.
41:04We're in single figures.
41:05Still going down with mud, still going down with mud to one.
41:07Look at that.
41:07Very well done indeed.
41:10Annoyingly, not a pointless answer, but it's very close.
41:14Your next answer was The Animals.
41:16Exactly the same criteria.
41:17Let's see how many of our 100 people said The Animals.
41:19Might this be pointless?
41:22Uno.
41:24Not The Animals.
41:26So we come to your third and final answer, which is Slade.
41:30Let's see if Slade is right.
41:31Let's see if Slade is pointless for £1,500.
41:37Slade is right.
41:39Mud was right.
41:40Took us all the way down to one.
41:42The animals turned out to be incorrect.
41:45Slade takes us into single figures.
41:47Still going down with Slade.
41:47Still going down with Slade.
41:48You have done it.
41:49Very well done indeed.
41:51Slade is a pointless answer and it has just won you £1,500.
41:55Yeah, there are in fact three pointless answers from Slade.
42:00Because they couldn't spell.
42:02Mama, we're all crazy now.
42:05Come on, feel the noise.
42:07And squeeze me, please me.
42:09All with double E's.
42:10Let's have a look at some of the pointless answers.
42:12With more double E's in it.
42:13All Saints, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Leona Lewis, The Lightning Seeds.
42:19In fact, every act was pointless apart from the following, who all scored points.
42:23We've got The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Take That and Mud with Tiger Feet.
42:28Moving on to artists who've had UK number ones with ooh in the title.
42:32We've got The Arctic Monkeys, Britney Spears, Cher, Shaggy.
42:37Again, loads of pointless answers.
42:39The only scoring answers here were The Beatles, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Rolling Stones, ABBA,
42:44Doop, Elton John, Elvis Presley, Ginny G, Michael Jackson, Oasis, Take That, Spice Girls and Venger Boys.
42:51Well done at home if you said anything else.
42:54Thank you very much indeed, Michael.
42:56And thank you once again to our winning players, Carl and Denise,
42:58who take away today's jackpot of £1,500.
43:02Join us next time when we'll be putting more obscure knowledge to the test on pointless.
43:06Meanwhile, it's goodbye from Michael.
43:08Bye-bye.
43:09And it's goodbye from me.
43:10Goodbye.
