06:25In this case, where Voss at first says, I would like an attorney present, which is probably the best idea,
06:32but he can't help himself.
06:34This narcissistic control, where you need to feel like you are in control of the situation, you're controlling other people,
06:41but all in a way that paints yourself in a good light.
06:44So he wants to assert himself, even though this probably isn't in his best interest, but in his mind he
06:49thinks, they'll never catch me.
07:13I smell that powder.
07:16I remember her, um, her boob fell out when I was moving her, and her boob was real bloody.
07:22But, um, yeah, then I reached over and I grabbed that gun off the floor, and then, um, well actually
07:29I'm gonna stop talking to everybody, because I don't want to kill me myself.
07:39Can you describe those guys for me?
07:42I'd rather not.
07:44Is there a reason?
07:46There's multiple reasons.
07:48You know, honestly, I don't want to do that, regardless of if somebody's harmed me or not.
07:52And it's gonna make things worse, and the cycle's gonna keep going, and this is never ending, and I'm, I'm
08:00just done with this.
08:02I can't want to watch this blow off me, just be done with it.
08:08I think his expressions about that, like, I want this to blow off me, you're hearing some honest expression of
08:14what he's hoping, and that he's aware.
08:16He's feeling, okay, I am a target of this, and I, I have to figure out now how to have
08:21this move on, so that I'm, I'm no longer the focus of it all.
08:25That desire not to be accountable for what we do in life, and we see that in psychopathy.
08:30We want to be able to do stuff, but not pay any of the consequences for it, so, and that's
08:35the avoidance of punishment.
08:50So, these are the questions I have to ask, all right?
08:54Was there any kind of arguments between the two of you at all?
08:57No, not at all.
08:59It's not at all, not today at all.
09:00It was a good day.
09:03When you guys do argue, what do you guys usually argue about?
09:07This is not about me cheating.
09:10What about her cheating?
09:14Okay, is there one of you guys cheating lately?
09:16No, well, yeah, I mean, I'm a dog, yeah, sometimes.
09:19Like, I hurt that woman, like, emotionally, and I love her so much, you know?
09:27I think when Voss is describing his relationship with Shandon, it's sort of very superficial.
09:33It's almost like it's transactional.
09:36He's minimizing his harm to her.
09:39He's, you know, acknowledging a little bit of the emotional harm,
09:42but what he's really doing is minimizing any of the physical violence that he enacted upon her.
09:48And so, it's sort of like he's taking selective responsibility,
09:51and that allows him to appear somewhat honest with police,
09:55but in reality, it's just more him controlling the narrative of what he wants them to know.
10:05You were holding the weapon that shot her.
10:08Help us prove your story so that this doesn't turn on you.
10:13Yeah, that's insane.
10:15I couldn't even imagine that.
10:18How many times did she show her?
10:23We don't know.
10:24We won't know until probably Monday, but there was quite a few times.
10:37She's up, bro.
10:39She's shot so many times, it didn't seem like there was that many shots.
10:44He said she was shot.
10:57When Voss asked the detective how many times was she shot,
11:01I don't think he's actually that concerned,
11:03because this is the first time in this entire interview
11:05he's actually asking about Shannon's condition
11:08or anything that happened to her.
11:10The information is actually one of the most important things,
11:13what information they can use against you,
11:15that they have, that other people know.
11:18That's a huge asset for people that want to maintain control
11:22and have this narcissistic tendency to maintain control of information
11:26so they always look like they're in the best light.
11:39This whole entire incident is caught on video, man.
11:43So what was the argument about?
11:45We were not arguing.
11:49This is, this is, I don't, I don't, I don't know if it's,
11:53it's a racism or the brain part thing.
11:55This is her blood.
11:56Do you see this?
12:00That's, that's from getting shot right in, in her legs.
12:05She got shot in the legs when she tried to get out.
12:09That's not, I don't, that's not true.
12:11I don't recall that.
12:12It's not true.
12:14That's not like, that's not,
12:18it's just, it's not, none of that, it's not.
12:20Did she hit you?
12:21She did not hit me.
12:22We did not fight.
12:23We weren't even arguing.
12:25The shots were fired in that car.
12:29Yeah, when they stick the gun in there,
12:30that's what happens.
12:31The shots were fired in the car.
12:32Nobody walks up to that car.
12:34This is a real video
12:37of literally watching you shoot her.
12:41There's nothing else.
12:53And then you'll see it when you go to court.
12:55Okay.
12:59We saw him rocking and kind of crying earlier
13:03and going, it should have been me.
13:04But now he's kind of matter of fact.
13:07He's careful in what he has to say.
13:09He's eating chips
13:11and just sitting there picking away.
13:13So just when you look at the setting
13:15and you back up from it,
13:15his, his calm demeanor
13:17doesn't really match the severity
13:19of the situation that he's in.
13:22Having just lost a loved one,
13:23if that narrative was true
13:25or realizing that
13:26they're going to accuse me
13:28of murdering my girlfriend
13:30and you would expect
13:31a different posture
13:32from a normal person
13:34and we just don't see that with him.
13:37Why'd you crash your car
13:38and then go and crash your car again?
13:41And then you ran away from cops.
13:43Get down!
13:45The woman you love,
13:46you left on the roadway
13:48to bleed out.
13:51You left her.
13:51And I don't remember that.
13:53I don't remember leaving her.
13:55I really don't.
13:56I don't remember
13:57the jumping off the thing.
13:58I truly do not remember.
14:00I mean, did she try
14:02and stab you tonight?
14:03And you had to defend yourself?
14:05No.
14:06I don't know.
14:06I don't like that.
14:07I don't like that.
14:08But, like,
14:10it wasn't like...
14:12Her last night?
14:13Sorry.
14:15I just...
14:16And then the whole thing
14:17about being a passenger
14:19is just so weird to me
14:21because she was never
14:22in the passenger seat.
14:24So, here's the deal.
14:26You're going to be booked in
14:26on homicide charges.
14:30You're going to get booked in
14:31on obstruction charges,
14:33making the scene of accident,
14:34like a whole slew of them.
14:53They were acting fine
14:54that whole evening.
14:55There was no...
14:57Like, there was no problems
14:58that I saw between them
15:00when we were with them.
15:01But that's never stopped him
15:04before because he's in...
15:05He's got this belligerent rage.
15:08Yeah, in general,
15:09he is a...
15:10He's known out here
15:12for being...
15:14a killer.
15:23It was here in February or March
15:25is when he beat her up.
15:27When he beat her up
15:28after the leg incident
15:30and threw her keys.
15:32She put a post on Facebook
15:34about it.
15:35Her face was all
15:36bloodied up.
15:37But, like,
15:38he always pulls a gun.
15:41Always.
15:41Like, he...
15:42They can be having
15:43a good time one second
15:45and he gets the wrong look,
15:47the wrong impression
15:48from anybody,
15:49he'll snap.
15:50And start blaming her.
15:52He's a narcissist.
15:57With grandiosity,
15:58we often think
15:58that people want to be loved.
16:00You know,
16:00I want to be viewed
16:01so positively
16:01and so well-regarded.
16:03But for some people,
16:04grandiosity comes out
16:05as fear.
16:06They want to be feared.
16:08They want to be respected.
16:09They want to have
16:10this obligation
16:11to obey them.
16:12but it comes
16:13not because of love
16:14and joy
16:15and willingness
16:16to comply.
16:18Voss sounds like
16:19he absolutely
16:19controls Shannon
16:20through violence
16:22and fear.
16:23He's full of rage.
16:24He's not concerned
16:25about his girlfriend,
16:26Shannon.
16:27So he's got
16:28such a lack of affect
16:29and empathy
16:30for this person
16:31he's supposed to care about.
16:32It's just a true callousness.
16:33And meanwhile,
16:34being so manipulative,
16:35he always finds a way
16:37to pull her back.
16:38So, Shannon's friend
16:40sees all of this
16:40and I think she's identified
16:41many core features
16:43of psychopathic traits.
17:03Hey, sis.
17:04It's T.
17:06Hi.
17:07Hi.
17:08How are you?
17:09Oh, God, dude.
17:10What the f***?
17:13I don't know.
17:14I wish I could tell you.
17:16I don't know.
17:17We just started,
17:18it was like we started
17:18fighting like over the,
17:20like I don't even remember
17:20when it was over
17:21but then she started
17:21stabbing me.
17:22Like, you know,
17:23she's done it before
17:24but I was telling her
17:24to stop
17:25and then I just,
17:26I just hit,
17:27I just shot her.
17:30Then I tried to drive
17:31her to the hospital
17:32to hold her
17:32and I told her
17:33it was going to be okay
17:34and she just kept saying
17:35she was hot.
17:36I only had a couple minutes
17:37I just didn't want
17:38to try to kill her.
17:41I know,
17:42I love you.
17:45He's changing
17:46the narrative now.
17:47He's reframing this
17:49as, you know,
17:50it's reactionary,
17:51it's like he panicked
17:52and it's almost like
17:53it's setting it up
17:54for a defense as well
17:55but I think in terms
17:57of telling that story
17:59to his family
18:00it's setting up
18:01the stage for,
18:02you know,
18:02feel sorry for me,
18:04you know,
18:04I'm the victim here,
18:05you know,
18:06he's trying to get something
18:07out of them still.
18:08They're going to continue
18:09to support him
18:10while he's in custody
18:11so he's trying to
18:12continue engagement
18:14with them
18:14but in reality
18:16it's very transactional,
18:18you know,
18:18he's serving them
18:18a narrative
18:19that gets him something
18:20that he needs
18:21or wants.
18:43Two people
18:44that actually
18:44shot their guns?
18:45Yeah.
18:46Okay.
18:47So today
18:48maybe there were
18:49two shooters?
18:50There was two shooters.
18:51Okay.
18:53Can you count bullets?
18:56Can you please
18:57stop winking at me, sir?
18:59I'm not winking,
18:59I have a twitch.
19:03Weird.
19:06I do have a twitch.
19:13Then your mom
19:14gets on the phone.
19:16You not only tell her
19:17that you have stab wounds
19:18but you specifically
19:19tell her that they're
19:20defensive wounds.
19:23Hmm.
19:23I actually don't remember
19:24that well or that far
19:25I haven't listened
19:26to that call
19:26all the way through.
19:28No further questions.
19:33I think the part was
19:35he probably already knows
19:36what's going to happen
19:37but he's thinking
19:38I want to get as much
19:39as I can out of this
19:40throughout
19:41and even just toying
19:43with these prosecutors
19:43and police.
19:44That's fun for him.
19:45He can make the news
19:47cover it.
19:48He can also make sure
19:49the prosecutor feels
19:50demeaned by him
19:51where he's winking at her
19:53and showing
19:53I don't respect you
19:54and in his world
19:55respect means the most
19:56and it's glib
19:58but in his world
19:59glibness isn't being admired
20:02it's being feared.
20:03That's what he wants.
20:05If he can exhibit
20:06those behaviors
20:07that make someone
20:08feel something about him
20:09that he wants
20:10it's still control.
20:11It's just that
20:12what his goal was
20:14not about being loved
20:15it was about being feared.
20:16but he knows
20:19he knows
20:19he just cometh
