00:00Krista is a survivor. She survived child sexual abuse. She survived rapes of
00:05multiple men. She survived a suicide attempt when she was 12 and she survived
00:09the state's attempt to execute her. She deserves answers about what was done to
00:14her and the people of Tennessee deserve those answers too. On Monday night, it
00:20was our understanding that Krista was brain dead and that life support would
00:24be removed the next day. But on Tuesday, to the shock of everyone, including me,
00:30including her team, and including the medical team, Krista woke up and began
00:34talking. I do not have an explanation for what happened between Monday night and
00:40Tuesday morning, but what we do know is that Krista has a long road to recovery.
00:45She has a blood clot in one of her arms. She has pneumonia. She is not able to
00:51swallow yet, so she has not eaten. She cannot move either of her arms. Both of
00:57her arms and hands are tremendously swollen, and we do not know what, if any,
01:02functions she will regain in her arms. But we do know that there's a long road
01:08ahead. And that is just the physical toll that all of this has taken. Neither we
01:15nor Krista have even begun to process what this means for her mental health. We
01:20continue to ask Governor Lee to commute Krista's death sentence. After all we
01:24have seen and all that we still do not know, it is unimaginable that the state
01:29would try to execute her again.
