A news report examines intense public lobbying and scrutiny surrounding the Nobel Peace Prize committee ahead of the annual announcement in October. The discussion focuses on claims regarding mediation in international conflicts, averting wider warfare, and securing hostage releases. The assessment contrasts current credentials with past selections by the committee, recalling previous instances where awards drew surprise, including the recognition given to former United States President Barack Obama shortly after his election. The report notes recurring dissatisfaction and debate over the credibility, criteria, and decision-making reputation of the Nobel panel.

00:00And Donald Trump is actively lobbying for the Peace Prize.
00:06This is the breaking news coming in that Donald Trump is actively lobbying for the Nobel Peace Prize days before
00:13announcement.
00:14Nobel has mocked the Nobel Peace Prize panel.
00:18He says award Peace Prize or face great discredit.
00:23He claims that he stopped eight wars, helped release hostages, and I have helped avert broader conflict.
00:30That's the claim being made by Donald Trump.
00:32The panel has the reputation of snubbing people like me.
00:36Let's listen in.
00:39They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me, but whether I get it or not,
00:45I have done far more.
00:46And I think it would be a great discredit to them.
00:48And I'm not saying that out of scorn.
00:51I'm saying that when you settle eight wars and nobody's ever, I'll bet you if you look at the Nobel
00:57Prize, look, Obama got it and he didn't do anything.
01:00He still doesn't know what he got it for.
01:02He got it when he got elected right at the beginning and he had no idea why he got it.
01:10And we have Rohit Sharma on this story joining us.
01:14Rohit, Donald Trump once again lobbying for the Peace Prize.
01:17Last year, he was greatly disappointed and he had made it very, very clear to the world that he's not
01:23happy with the Nobel Peace Prize committee.
01:25What are you picking up?
01:27Well, I think, you know, President Trump has made it very clear and it's no secret that he actually wants
01:32this, this Peace Prize.
01:34And in the same breath, he talks about how Obama, you know, was given that award.
01:38I mean, and he's right.
01:39I mean, even Obama was surprised when he got the Nobel Peace Prize for doing absolutely, as President Donald Trump
01:44has said, nothing.
01:45You know what I mean?
01:45I mean, he's gone on to a lot of books written about it.
01:47Obama himself saying he was surprised he got it.
01:49So I think President Trump has a point that he has been able to get at least some kind of
01:53force to end and that he kind of thinks that he deserves it.
01:57Now, last year, we do know he did not get it.
02:00But the person who got it in the end ended up giving it to President Donald Trump.
02:03So I think, you know, it's at that time of the year in October when the Nobel Peace Committee is
02:07supposed to, you know, announce these awards and somebody brought it up again.
02:11And he was just sharing what he has been saying for the last 18 months or so.
02:18Rohit, stay on with me.
02:20We're getting, let's listen in once more to what Donald Trump has said about the issue and as he is
02:28actively lobbying for the Peace Prize.
02:35They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me.
02:40But I, whether I get it or not, I have done far more.
02:43And I think it would be a great discredit to them.
02:45And I'm not saying that out of scorn.
02:47I'm saying that when you settle eight wars and nobody's ever, I'll bet you, if you look at the Nobel
02:54Prize, look, Obama got it and he didn't do anything.
02:57He still doesn't know what he got it for.
02:59He got it when he got elected right at the beginning.
03:02And he had no idea why he got it.
