Break down of the Panthers' 2-1 win, but the victory is clouded by Brad Marchand leaving with a brutal injury. Should we be worried about the Panthers as injuries keep on happening?
Transcript
00:00For those who didn't have coffee to stay up for the Panthers last night,
00:04they won 2-1 filthy over the LA Kings.
00:07Matthew Kachuk, he had the go-ahead goal to put him up 2-1.
00:13The unfortunate thing is another huge injury for the Panthers
00:16as Brad Marchand gets hurt.
00:20And I don't know.
00:21I don't even know.
00:22And it's not like you ask, oh, did he get hurt there?
00:27When we've seen these injuries, I go, oh, I wonder how bad it is.
00:31Yeah, like last night, Loosty got hurt, but you knew he just took a puck off the knee.
00:36You're like, oh, that's a stinger.
00:40And you can just see him, and he's in a lot of pain.
00:42I mean, we've heard from Gustav Forsling.
00:44I mean, those pucks are no joke when they hit you.
00:47But he came back.
00:50Marshy, not good, dude.
00:52Not good.
00:52He got high-sticked in the face, and then he got upended.
00:57The knee went the wrong – like didn't look like it went the right way.
01:01And he was down for a while and then needed to be helped off the ice.
01:07So this also coming off of the day where we learned from Paul Maurice,
01:11we did get good Barkoff news.
01:13Right, not out for the year.
01:14Not out for the year.
01:15And, in fact, probably by the new year we'll get him back.
01:18Probably.
01:19I mean, like they said 8 to 10.
01:20People are saying, like, Barky, take until Christmas, okay?
01:24Whatever you need, buddy.
01:25Take your time.
01:27We don't need to rush that right now.
01:30So he's been back-to-back knees, and it's been the other knee.
01:33It hasn't been the same knee.
01:35Man, that –
01:35But he's not doing surgery.
01:37He's rehabbing it.
01:38Right.
01:38Which I know made some people nervous, but –
01:40It's – like, again, remember when I was telling you about different levels of knee sprains?
01:47Like, it's just different levels of tear.
01:50And, like, there's two ways you can look at it.
01:54You can look at it as it's not bad so that he can heal.
01:59Or you can look at it as the Ryan Tannehill situation.
02:02Yeah.
02:03Right?
02:03Because Ryan Tannehill had a knee sprain.
02:06They don't want to tell you a partial tear.
02:07It sounds too bad.
02:09Right.
02:09Right?
02:10But remember, Ryan Tannehill tried to come back without surgery, and then he hurt it again
02:15and had to be out for the whole year.
02:17So that's the kind of, you know, thing that I always am curious about because you still don't know the
02:25level of injury.
02:27Yeah, we don't.
02:29And, look, that happened also with Kachuk.
02:32Like, Kachuk really didn't get all the way back until he was out and had surgery.
02:36You know, but he got it through the playoffs and won cups.
02:39Right.
02:39You know, I think with Barky, he did get surgery last year.
02:43And so he's like, well, I'm going to try again.
02:45But we don't know.
02:46We don't know.
02:46I don't know if it's the worst.
02:47And keep in mind, the other thing you have to understand is surgery adds two or three months to your
02:53recovery.
02:54Carlos said the Martian's injury looked bad.
02:56It did look bad.
02:57There's no – it was a bad hit, and then he was in a bad spot because he was between
03:02players and the pipes.
03:05So it was a rough look.
03:08This was – this is Matthew Kachuk on how they mentally are dealing with all the injuries.
03:17Unfortunately, we had to deal with that pretty much every single game last year.
03:21So I know when I came back, I came back in mid to late January, and literally it seemed like
03:29every game somebody was going down.
03:30So when your name's called, you know, you've got to tap on the back to go out there, just go
03:36out there and do a job.
03:37And I think when, you know, guys are, you know, banged up or, you know, out of the lineup or,
03:42you know, coming out mid-game or whatever, you just got to oversimplify it.
03:45And that's all right.
03:46But Panthers hockey, you win low-scoring games, and it translates to playoffs.
03:50Dave South says both Barkey and Marshy got hit in the face and then hurt their knees.
03:54That's true.
03:54That did happen.
03:55There was a lot of histrionics yesterday.
03:57There was a lot of fights between – we got Garnett Hathaway.
04:00I think he had his first fight as a Panther.
04:04Sam Bennett punched a – who was it?
04:06Kempf right in the face because he tried to face mush him, and Bennett's like, oh, face mush me?
04:11How about a right hand right in your face?
04:13Because that's how Sam Bennett communicates.
04:16I got to tell you, there is nothing more nerve-wracking than watching a two-man advantage.
04:22Oof.
04:23Like, I'm like, wait, where are the rest of the guys?
04:28They're huddling, trying to keep the formation tight.
04:32You know, they call me the credit man, and I give out credit.
04:36And I got to give credit where credit's due.
04:39Markstrom's been awesome.
04:40He's been awesome.
04:41Great start to his Panthers run thus far.
04:43He has been, you know.
04:44You know who hasn't been?
04:47Bob's had two games.
04:48He didn't play last night.
04:50I don't know why they're not playing.
04:53Four-goal Stolle last night.
04:55Stolle was giving him up.
05:00Stolle is his backup?
05:02Stolle's his backup, yeah.
05:03Jeez.
05:04Is he like, again?
05:06He loves it.
05:07He loves it.
05:08He's like, ah, perfect.
05:10It seems like early in the season to be getting breaks, right?
05:14Yes and no.
05:15I mean, the young guy.
05:18What the hell is the guy's name?
05:19Akira?
05:20The guy, Schmid?
05:21He's our backup.
05:22He got one of the games on the trip.
05:24So, you know.
05:27But, but Marshall's locked in right now.
05:29I mean, he's, I think, I think they're kind of riding him.
05:31They're like, because they have, let me tell you something.
05:33A lot of chances.
05:35Not scoring.
05:36No.
05:37Not scoring.
05:37A lot of penalties.
05:38He's had to be on it.
05:40Oh my goodness.
05:40Like, it seems like every.
05:42There was a lot of penalties in general last night.
05:45Yep.
05:45But, um, I would say, like, I didn't, like, watching when the Panthers won a power play.
05:55They had zero shots.
05:57That's so annoying.
05:58Oh, it's so annoying.
05:59When they pass it around.
06:00Just take a rip.
06:01They had a, uh, dude, there was one where they had a five on three.
06:07And then it, and then, uh, there was a four-minute minor.
06:10Like, they had to kill a lot yesterday.
06:12It was, it was rough.
06:14So, yeah, I got to give credit.
06:15You know, that's, that's why they call me the credit man.
06:17So, Bill Zito.
06:18You're a rascal.
06:20Oh!
06:21So now, oh!
06:23You know, Paul Maurice really.
06:25So, when I asked you if you trust Bill Zito.
06:30Right.
06:30Your exact words.
06:31Not with this.
06:32I, well, I still don't agree with his decision.
06:34No, no, no.
06:35But his, but his backup plan was very good.
06:37Would you say that he's more qualified in these matters than you?
06:42You think that I'm going to sit here and tell you that Bill Zito's more qualified to run a hockey
06:46team than I am?
06:48I'll agree with that.
06:49But I just didn't agree with one decision.
06:50I have to agree with everything.
06:52It doesn't matter.
06:53You can always say, I don't agree with it, but maybe he sees something I don't.
06:58I will, like, he always has to be more, more neutral than I am.
07:01So why don't you just trust him?
07:04Nah, you know, I'm not.
07:06That would make me, that would make me a zombie.
07:08I have to have my own thought.
07:09No, it wouldn't.
07:10Here is Paul Maurice on Bill Zito doing it again with all the depth.
07:15In those situations particularly.
07:16You know, credit to Bill Zito and our pro scouting staff for the people that they brought in.
07:24Lars Eller has been incredible for us.
07:27Huge on the five on three.
07:29He's on the ice at the end of the game.
07:32Hathaway.
07:33I thought that whole line early in the game when I could get him out before the penalties kicked in.
07:39Really physical and stylistically perfect for the way that we want to play.
07:43I guess maybe, I don't know if we, I would say we learned a lesson.
07:46But we suffered so badly with our injuries last year.
07:49We went, our main team got injured, then our depth got injured, and we were into the third layer.
07:55So, did a great job acquiring depth for us so that we have good players that can come in and
08:01help.
08:03Interesting.
08:05Paul's also a credit man, apparently, Dade South.
08:10You know, Paul Maurice and I were a tag team in a wrestling match.
08:13They call us the creditors.
08:15Oh, my God.
08:15Stop it.
08:17I think I'm minus one.
08:18I thought.
08:18Yes.
08:19Mike, you trying to hide.
08:22Minus one.
08:23You trying to hide behind your phoniness.
08:27Or lying.
08:28Yes.
08:29There we go.
08:30Or deception.
08:31Yep.
08:32I don't like this.
08:34Hey, it is what it is.
08:35For fraudulence.
08:36We had this argument, and now all of a sudden you're acting like it never even happened.
08:41I'm not wrong yet.
08:43Yes, you are.
08:44No, no, no, no, no.
08:45This is where, this is, wait.
08:48You're not wrong for having it a pick.
08:50You're wrong for not trusting Bill Zito and what that guy's done up to this point.
08:54And trust that he's doing what he thinks is best for the team.
08:57I did trust Bill Zito.
08:59No, you didn't.
08:59No, you didn't.
09:00I trusted him.
09:01No, you didn't.
09:02I trusted him.
09:03No.
09:03Oh, my goodness.
09:05Here.
09:06You, you are a piece of work.
09:08For a flip floppery.
09:09Yes.
09:11Exactly.
09:12You are like, wow.
09:14And this is where we are.
09:16This is where we are.
09:17Oh, hot take Tobin.
09:19Then you try to finagle your way out of it to soften the blow.
09:24I'm not finagling.
09:25Yes, you are.
09:26I'm not finagling.
09:27Yes, you are.
09:28I trust Bill Zito.
09:29Just not with this.
09:31Then you don't trust them.
09:34Tate's house says you were this close to sending him to the Yotes.
09:37Yes.
09:38Send Bill Zito to the Yotes.
09:40I wasn't going to send him to the Yotes.
09:41Do you not recall any of your conversations?
09:45I went at that conversation with my heart.
09:48Sometimes you don't have the questions.
09:49I tried to tell you that.
09:50I don't want to hear it.
09:52You always, you always telling me I'm wrong.
09:54It doesn't matter if I'm using my heart or my head.
09:56Now, I never said, wait a minute.
09:59I never said you were wrong.
10:02What I said was, has Bill Zito earned enough that we trust him with any decision he makes?
10:10Well, that's all I ever said.
10:11You go, no, not with this one.
10:13I mean, ultimately, he's going to be proven right or wrong in the playoffs.
10:16We'll see.
10:16I mean, I don't play here for regular seasons.
10:18But for so far, Jacob Marshall.
10:21Brittany.
10:23Here's what he's trying to do.
10:25He's trying to land on a bed of marshmallows.
10:28He's trying to soften the blow of some of your hot takes.
10:32Yes, you are.
10:33I'm not doing that.
10:34Oh, it doesn't count now.
10:36It doesn't count now.
10:37RVA Rich says, well, wish Bob no success if he made it.
10:39I already did.
10:40No, you didn't.
10:41I wished him no success last week.
10:42That's not true.
10:43I did.
10:44You guys made me swear on a jersey.
10:46No, you didn't.
10:47You mumbled it.
10:49What do you mean, dude?
10:50I definitely wish Bob no success.
10:51I did that back then.
10:53Now, wait.
10:54You certainly did it with Jimmy.
10:57What do you mean?
10:58I wish him no success.
10:59You said it loud and clear.
11:01I think you said it loud and clear.
11:05Don't deflect.
11:06Yeah, like, this is not about it.
11:08Listen, this little conversation is not about me.
11:11Don't make it about me.
11:12It's about you and your fraudulence.
11:15I'm not fraudulent.
11:16You just slipped up in the matter of two minutes.
11:19Yeah.
11:19In the matter of two minutes, you just went from saying that you were giving him his props
11:27to then, now it doesn't count.
11:29Yeah.
11:30Ultimately, it doesn't count.
11:32I just said, ultimately, it'll be decided in the playoffs.
11:34I'm saying that you were giving him his props to then, now it's not about me.
11:36Ultimately, ultimately.
11:38That's what you meant, but you used different words.
11:40I want to be wrong.
11:41Trust me.
11:42I want to be wrong.
11:43I'd love to be wrong.
11:44I'd rather sit here with the cup wrong than have no cup and be right.
11:50Trust me.
11:51Trust me.
11:51I hope Bob listens to Bob.
11:53I'm not wishing him success.
11:54All things that I said before, and you said, we'll see.
12:01We'll see.
12:01I said, what if they win the championship?
12:03Are you going to admit that Bill Zito was right about this?
12:05We'll see.
12:06We'll see.
12:07We'll see.
12:07We will see.
12:08But for right now, like Paul Maurice.
12:11So, so if, if we, if, if Bob was on this team right now and the team was struggling and
12:18he was giving them goals, you'd be like, long season, long season.
12:22Don't worry.
12:22They'll get it back.
12:22Everybody's hurt.
12:23Yeah.
12:24But for some reason.
12:25People are doing that.
12:26Brady Kachuk already.
12:27They're saying he's a bum.
12:28He's, he's, he's, he's not doing anything.
12:30People.
12:31Yeah.
12:31I saw your tweet.
12:32People.
12:33It wasn't a tweet.
12:34It was a text.
12:34It was a text there.
12:36And that's not, and that wasn't definitive.
12:38I believe what I texted you guys in confidence.
12:40Jeez, Brittany.
12:42If you wouldn't put your, if you wouldn't put your butt out there so much with all the
12:47shenanigans and things you do, you wouldn't be held accountable as much.
12:51I said two games ago, I don't mean to be.
12:55Don't wait.
12:56See, read it.
12:57I didn't make you read it.
12:59You put it out there for the audience.
13:01You threw it out there like a, like a piece of bait for tarpon at Robbie's.
13:07That's not true.
13:08I thought it was a tweet to be fair.
13:10Text her five, six, one says, read it.
13:12You bum.
13:14I said a couple of days ago when they were playing the ducks, I said, I don't mean to
13:19be rude or jump the gun, but we may have been fleeced for this Brady Kachuk.
13:23Dude is a ghost.
13:25After not even a week of hockey.
13:27It was three games.
13:28It was literally three games.
13:31Jeez.
13:32Much better last night.
13:33Even if, even if he had no points, you noticed him yesterday.
13:36You do realize if he were to get a goal every game, that's 82 goals, which is ridiculous.
13:40I don't get a goal every game.
13:41One point over four games.
13:43Just look, I'm waiting.
13:45He wants it to.
13:46You can tell in his face.
13:49Good thing is his brother's balling out.
13:52We're pucking out.
13:52They're winning, which is also the most important thing.
13:57Well, they've won twice and then they've lost in overtime twice, but they've gotten points.
14:01They have never lost a game in regulation.
14:05Nope.
14:06All right.
14:07Nope.
14:07So they still got the O.
14:102-1 filthy.
14:11We're Herbert.
14:11She's pooping out.
14:11Almost day.
14:11In the early days.
14:12She's pooping out.
