00:00How dare they tell him not to come? How dare they? So I think he's between a rock and a
00:05hard
00:05place. Do you do what's good for Donald Trump or do you do what's good for his party? Donald Trump
00:11can't help himself. So Donald, if you're watching, don't wuss out, man. Don't be told what to do by
00:18Mike Rogers, right? You should come. You should tell everybody, come to Port Huron, go to Oakland
00:24County. You should go to Detroit. You should go to Grand Rapids. You should go up north. You should
00:27go as many places as your little heart desires. And you should tell everybody why you're
00:32on the ballot. Your tariffs are on the ballot and your war is on the ballot. It's a lovely
00:36town. It truly is a lovely town. And you get a great view of our neighbors to the north
00:40in Canada. I think Donald Trump should come visit, see it for himself. Why do you think
00:46that'll help you? Sorry, who are you? Cleveland Vittert with NewsNation. She's the boss. Do
00:53I answer his question? Why do I think that's going to help me? People hate Donald Trump.
00:57Frankly, and also he wants everybody to know that he's on the ballot. I want everybody to
01:03know that he's on the ballot too. Mike Rogers is a vote for Donald Trump. I want him to come
01:07and
01:07say it for himself. And I think he's too afraid. And I know that all of Rogers' people are being
01:13like, please don't come, sir. Please don't come. And he, you know, he is the best speaker on behalf
01:18of the Republican Party. How dare they tell him not to come? How dare they? So I think he's between
01:24a
01:24rock and a hard place. Do you do what's good for Donald Trump or do you do what's good for
01:28his
01:28party? Donald Trump can't help himself. So Donald, if you're watching, don't, don't wuss out, man.
01:35Don't be, you know, don't be told what to do by Mike Rogers, right? You should come. You should
01:40tell everybody, come to Port Huron, go to Oakland County. You should go to Detroit. You should go to
01:45Grand Rapids. You go up north. You should go as many places as your little heart desires. And you
01:50should tell everybody why you're on the ballot. Your tariffs are on the ballot and your war is on
01:54the ballot and your drapes are on the ballot. You're welcome here for the next couple of months
01:58and then afterwards, don't come.
01:59Can we answer questions, please? Over there.
02:02I had met one of your, Shaquille, sorry, Shaquille Brewster, NBC News. I talked to a supporter of
02:08yours earlier today and his main concern, I can read the quote, but just to paraphrase, is that
02:12he's hearing among his friends and family what he calls Islamophobia, saying that he's finding
02:18himself having to defend the attacks that we're seeing in television ads. My question for you is
02:22when we look at the ads, when we hear the attacks, have you found the need to address those attacks
02:27directly? And if so, how are you handling that? Look, at the end of the day, my name, my faith,
02:31aren't the reason you're paying more on gas, not the reason you're paying more on groceries,
02:35not the reason you can't see a doctor. Chances are, if you see a doctor, chances are they might
02:39actually have my name and my faith. So, you know, at the end of the day, like I really want
02:43to focus
02:44on the issues that we can address. I also tell you that, yes, there are, you know, their whole
02:48play is to try to distract people with my name and my faith. How pitiful is that? You've fought this
02:55war that we never should have fought to raise gas prices, people can't afford their groceries,
02:59and the best you can do is fearmonger. That's sad, man. It's sad. They're not serious about actually
03:06solving problems. It's not. I know I got a business running for office, and at the same time,
03:10I'm a doctor who rebuilt health departments. I got two kids. I want them to grow up in a world
03:15where other kids get to go to great schools, get to afford their homes that they can grow up in
03:21a
03:21world where, like, they're not breathing dirty air or drinking dirty water where, you know,
03:26their families can afford the basic means of a dignified life. Like, that's the only reason
03:28to do this. So, you know, I'm going to keep believing in this mission, right? You're not supposed
03:36to get 1,200 people in 40 Kron with a name like mine. So, yes, there are some people out
03:40there who
03:41are, you know, who are trying to distract us from the big issues, but I don't think it's working.
03:48Are you choosing not to address that? I just, the question is not, frankly, about me or my name.
03:54The question is about Michigan, and I have been a guy named Abdul in Michigan almost my whole life,
04:00right? And yes, there are always a few people, right, who want to distract us by pointing at
04:06differences between us. But the Michigan I know is a place where people are gritty,
04:10they're open-minded, they're big-hearted, where they're earnest. They're less interested in how
04:15you pray than what you pray for. They're less interested in what your name is than whether
04:19or not you care to know their name. And I believe in that Michigan. So, of course, right, their whole
04:23tactic is to spend hundreds of millions of dollars trying to point to my name and my faith. I just
04:28don't
04:28think it's going to work, right? Because at the end of the day, you still have to pay for gas.
04:32You
04:32still got to pay for your groceries. And I'm the only one who's actually got real efforts to try
04:37to address that. And I'm going to keep focusing on those problems and how to solve them.
04:41Great, Tucker, one more question. We'll look here. Last question.
04:44Jim Puzengara from the Boston Globe. Port Huron has a border crossing. It's a place that's been
04:49particularly affected by the Canada tariffs. What do you think those tariffs say about
04:57President Trump's concerns about cost of living? And what do you think about Mike Rogers' view on
05:03those tariffs? There have been some Senate Republican candidates like Susan Collins,
05:07John Sununu, who have criticized them. Mike Rogers has not.
05:11Mike Rogers is a coward. So he's never actually going to oppose Donald Trump because Donald Trump is
05:15the only reason he's running. So it's not surprising to me that he has said as little as he possibly
05:19can.
05:19Mike Rogers' whole campaign strategy is to say as little as he possibly can. It's the reason to skip the
05:23last
05:23debate. Went off to Dallas. And there's no Dallas, Michigan. The one in Texas. And when it comes to
05:29Trump, Trump has never cared about anybody but Trump. His family's making, what, two billion
05:34dollars off the presidency? More? How much does your family make? How are you doing? So, you know,
05:41if we want to continue to have a policy where Trump and Rogers get into these vanity projects,
05:49like this tariff war that has no coherence in any sort of economic theory at all,
05:54and you've got to pay for it,
05:58there it is. But I'm trying to get money out of politics, for money in your pocket,
06:01to pass Medicare for all. I know exactly how I want to do it. And it means standing up to
06:05politicians
06:05like Mike Rogers and Donald Trump, who have done nothing but make your life less livable,
06:12while making their lives way more. Don't forget, right? Trump's family, what,
06:16$2.2 billion that we know of? Mike Rogers, right? Took a swing through the revolving door
06:21and then cashed out, making $14 million, two yachts, in Florida, off of his time in Congress.
06:28How much are those candidate tariffs affecting Michigan voters?
06:33$5,600 a year on average that we're paying. Last year, super, super quiet. Thanks. Leland
06:39Bennett again, News Nation. Do you always shake hands before the question? I appreciate that.
06:43Well, nice to see you. Thank you very much. Well, we're hosting your debate on Thursday. We're
06:46glad to do it. Happy to have you. I heard this from one of your supporters. You obviously talked a
06:50lot
06:50about Iran. One of your supporters we interviewed seemed to think that Iran was a bigger threat.
06:55He seemed to think Israel was a bigger threat than Iran to the United States. Do you agree?
07:00Well, look, at the end of the day, our job is to address our issues diplomatically. But right now,
07:07we are in the war in Iran in part because of the advocacy of the Israeli prime minister. There's no
07:12disagreement on that. He came to the situation room and advocated for the war. And we're now paying,
07:18what, $1,600 for it. Our gas, our groceries are unaffordable. And that's on top of the billions
07:24in tax dollars that we spend sending our money over there. Now, how we think about a threat,
07:30that's an open question. You're going to be a senator. What do you view as the biggest threat?
07:33I've been more than extremely clear about this. I don't want our tax dollars being used to subsidize
07:37war abroad. I don't want our tax dollars being used to fund unconditionally foreign militaries.
07:42I think it's important that we be the first among equals to enforce international law against any and
07:48every country that breaks it. So this sort of like hypothetical, who's a bigger threat is a dumb
07:53question. I'm sorry. But you know, the big question is, what is the, what is the public
07:58policy we really want? You know what I mean? What is it that we want in the world? We want
08:04a world
08:04with less war. We want a world where our money is spent to build our schools here rather than to
08:09fund
08:10war and apartheid and genocide abroad. We want a world where all kids get to live their best,
08:16most dignified life. And you know, when you think about our current public policy, whether it's a war in
08:21Iran, we shouldn't be fighting or it's subsidizing a foreign military. That does not seem to me to
08:25be in the best interest of kids, all kids. Thank you for us. Thank you guys. Thank you.
