00:01Quebec's separatist Parti Cubecoin has won the provincial election,
00:06returning to power for the first time in more than a decade.
00:10But it fell short of a majority.
00:13The party was on track for nearly 60 seats,
00:16short of the 64 needed in the 127-seat National Assembly.
00:21That means a minority government will be formed,
00:24dependent on opposition support.
00:27Leader Paul-Saint-Pierre Plamondon said he heard the message from voters,
00:32but still promises another independence referendum,
00:36but not while Donald Trump is in office.
00:39But a referendum is an opportunity to decide by himself.
00:45It's a gesture of democracy.
00:47It's to nobody else than us, as a people,
00:50to determine what our national future is.
00:52And it's normal to ask the question again,
00:56in the light of our linguistic and cultural decline
00:58accelerated over the last years,
01:00but also in the legitimate perspective
01:02of becoming a master of our destiny at all.
01:06The outgoing coalition having near Quebec suffered a heavy defeat.
01:11Its leader, Christine Frechette, conceded and took full responsibility.
01:17And let's say this was not a vote for independence,
01:21but one aimed at getting rid of the CAQ.
01:24Support for leaving Canada currently sits at around only 30%.
01:30Prime Minister Mark Carney congratulated the winner
01:33and said Ottawa is willing to work with the new government.
