On April 17, 2022, Easter Sunday became an unforgettable experience for Deborah Hammonds and her spouse, Dustin. This video captures Deborah caring for an injured owl that collided with their car. 'We were driving home when an owl flew into our vehicle,' she explained. 'After stopping, we found the owl caught on our front bumper. While my husband recorded, I gently freed the bird.' Realizing the owl wasn't able to fly after being released, the couple feared it had sustained serious injuries and considered contacting emergency services. 'With no nearby veterinarians available, my husband dialed 911,' Deborah stated. Just as he was on the call, the owl managed to soar across the parking lot and eventually flew away. This footage was filmed in Joplin.

00:00Oh buddy, are you okay? He's still alive. Yeah. Well, yeah, I saw the wings. Okay. Okay, we have to
00:15get, okay.
00:15I don't have to get him out. Well, here. You're going to try? Yeah, I'm going to try and get
00:20him out. Here, hold him. Hold that.
00:23Oh, you're recording. Yeah. So, we, what's this called? Rupert Road? The back road you usually take? Yeah, I decided
00:39I was going to take that road to get home. I'd hate an owl.
00:49Oh, I'm fine. The owl's alive too. DJ's trying to get it unstuck from the grill. Oh yeah. It's stuck.
01:06It's alive though. It flapped its wings.
01:11We thought it was a hawk, but then I looked at its face. I didn't. Oh, DJ got it. Oh,
01:19okay. He's out.
01:25I don't know. Is it dead? No, it's blinking. It's injured. Hey, you okay?
01:39You're not unconscious anymore. Hi. Should I do that? Should I just call 911? I don't know. I don't think
01:46you call 911 for owls.
01:50Can't you Google emergency services like for animals? Or look up animal control maybe? That's what I did. Animal control.
01:59It calls the health department in Joplin. They're closed also. Oh. Hi.
02:06I don't know. It's cold out here. You okay? Are you okay? You're cute. Oh, I hope your eye's not
02:20messed up.
02:27I don't know. Your eye does look a little. Ugh. I'm sorry. It kind of swooped out in front of
02:35us though.
02:40I'll go ahead and just call just to see. Yeah. Okay.
02:47Okay. Okay. You're okay. You're okay. I'll give you some space, bud.
02:57Hopefully you'll start flying.
03:02Sorry.
03:04Here it goes.
03:05All right. Bye.
03:08It's really grainy, but he just flew across the parking lot. So, yeah, I think he's okay. You can't see,
03:15baby. I'm sorry.
03:18I think he's going to be okay. Bye, bye, bye. Bye, y'all. Sorry for hitting you.
